Elegant + Romantic Phuket Destination Wedding

It’s a summer Saturday so in no way should work be done today. Instead, let’s pour ourselves another round of ice cold coffee and dive into this beauty before us. These lovebirds are proof that fate can be oh so strong (don’t miss their adorably romantic story told by both parties below) and celebrated their union with a beyond amazing bash thanks to Luxury Events Phuket and Iam Flower. Julian Abram Wainwright snapped away and Imageforge Asia’s film below just made my day a whole lot brighter.

From Luxury Events Phuket… Melissa and Ishay’s love knows no border. Let them transport you into their love story which truly looks like a fairy tale…

From the Groom… It was a typical beautiful night in Uganda when I met Melissa. I went with my co-workers to the go-to Irish pub, Bubbles. I saw her from across the bar, standing with her friends, laughing as usual… lighting up the room as she always does. It wasn’t the first time I’d seen her but I never dared to walk up to her. For some reason, that night, I had the courage to talk to her. As introductions typically go in Uganda, the first question is often, “Why are you here in Africa?!” I told her I was a Greek cucumber farmer. She called me out on my bullshit right away. I was immediately attracted to her feistiness and directness. I told her that night that she and I were going to be serious. I knew it was true… she told me I was crazy! We said goodnight and I gave her my phone number, hoping she would call me. She never called.

From the Bride… I met Ishay in December 2009 when I took a year off from medical school to do research in Africa. We both were just like any other ex-pats in Kampala, hanging out at THE Irish Bar in town. I just spent the whole day out with my girlfriends. I almost didn’t go out that night, but fate decided otherwise. I have to admit when I met him, I thought he was attractive. I remember not even being able to pronounce his name. I put his number in as “I, the pilot.” The following week, I was at the Irish Bar, again… and I felt a tap on my shoulder. I looked up and there he was. We spoke and had a real conversation. I thought he was intriguing, intelligent, and fascinating. He kept up with me… even in his Israeli English! I was impressed.

From the Groom… As small communities go, we kept running into each other at the trusty Irish Bar and I asked her out on a proper date. I invited her to drive a boat in Lake Victoria that weekend. She wore a black jumpsuit and big sunhat. Of course, as a future dermatologist, her face was covered in sunblock. I’ll be honest, it was weird but even then, she looked so cute. She always managed to surprise me. She was full of determination and tried so hard to keep the boat straight on the water. It kept curving to the left and right. Who was this girl?

From the Bride… Later that week, we went to dinner. He asked me to wear my glasses. I was so embarrassed since I never wore my glasses out in public. But I did. And he made me feel so beautiful. That night, we never stopped talking until the next morning. We kept having nights like this; it was like a movie! A week later, we went to northern Uganda on a safari; we spent the entire night listening to music, laughing, and sharing our life stories. I had never seen the sky so lit up with stars. He traced out different constellations for me, pointing out the “Great Wagon” to me. Of course, I corrected him immediately and said it’s the Big Dipper.

From the Groom… One month later, I returned to Israel for a business trip and asked her to join me. That’s all it took. One month after knowing her, I knew she was my wife. Six months later, Melissa moved back to California. We spent hours talking on the Internet. For the next two years, we flew back and forth – from Uganda to San Francisco, from Israel to San Francisco, from Israel to Thailand, from San Francisco to Thailand. In July 2012, I moved to Philadelphia and Melissa moved to New York. We weren’t living together yet but at least, we got closer.

From the Bride… Everyone told me we were crazy, that this relationship would never be. We came from worlds apart. We lived worlds apart. But, Ishay was never an average man. He left his dream job in Africa. He left his life, his family, and his friends in Israel. He got accepted to a school that was once my dream school when I was younger. I consider myself so lucky to have met such an incredible person.

From the Groom… Our time in Uganda changed my life. To this day, I still miss my life in Uganda. But today, five years after I approached her in Kampala, I have my true love and she is forever my wife.”

From Luxury Events Phuket… The couple wanted their wedding to be elegant and bohemian with colours to be more overwhelming. The theme colors were white with pops of soft pastel colours (blush, peach) with hints of green and gold, in order to create something classy but with a warm romantic garden-like feel.

What was most important to them was to have a wedding with all the formal elements but in a fun atmosphere incorporating touches of Thai. Melissa’s brother was the wedding celebrant so as the couple were already legally married in the US, Melissa and Ishay wrote their own vows and said them under a chuppah (representing Ishay’s side of the family) in a private villa in Phuket, Thailand. We added in mozoltov at the end. The night was a mixture of Thai and Western elements with the beautiful Thai orchids mixed with the imported flowers in all the arrangements. The guests drank stunning Thai wines, Thai beer. There were three signature cocktails for the evening with one of them being a Thai Cucumber Mojito. Thai canapes were served during cocktails, after the ceremony, followed by a very Western style menu but there was homemade coconut ice cream served with the dessert followed by late night snacks of a local beef noodle soup station which is a dish that the local Thais love to eat on the streets late at night.

As we were in a private villa we could not do the wishing lanterns but instead we set off fireworks after the first dance which are still allowed in Thailand.

Intimate Beachfront Gay Wedding in Phuket, Thailand

Get ready to have your wanderlust ignited, loves, because these gorgeous, intimate nuptials on a private beach in Thailand are so Pinterest-worthy, you may have your bags halfway packed by the end. Thanks to Pure Bliss (sister company of The Wedding Bliss Thailand), this darling duo was able to plan their dream wedding from halfway around the world, and, lucky for us, we’ve got all the waterfront bliss in the gallery right here!

We were able to ask Sterling and Ron few questions about how their love story started and how they end up having their wedding in Phuket, Thailand.

Pure Bliss Team: How did you both meet each other?

Sterling: My little brother had been telling me about this guy for months – he said I needed to meet him. Well, at his medical school graduation, my little brother finally introduced us. I had seen him earlier and thought, “WOW!”, and when my brother brought him over, I was speechless. We hit if off right away, but started off as friends. We emailed back and forth (I lived in Seattle and he lived in Virginia – opposite sides of the US), and after a lot of plane flights and quick weekends, we fell deeply in love.

Pure Bliss Team: How did you both feel when you met each other the first time?

Sterling: I don’t think I am allowed to say what I was really thinking, so I will give the nice version: My heart leapt, and I was giddy. It was like I had known him forever, and I just found him again. I had to get to know him more. I was like a little a nervous little kid.

Pure Bliss Team: May we ask how your love has grown until the wedding day?

Ron: Neither of us were “out”, so we walked around the issue for quite a while, and the whole coming out to each other was very special. I was actually hiding in a closet when I told him I thought I was gay. Having someone going through the same thing was huge for me. His family was much more accepting than mine (they still are), and they were so patient with me as I started to accept who I was. Every time I saw him, I thought, I couldn’t love him any more – but then I found out that it just keeps growing and changing with time. He started off as my best friend, and now I am married to my best friend. I couldn’t have asked for anything more.

Pure Bliss Team: Why and how did you choose Phuket, Thailand, as your wedding destination?

Sterling: We had been planning the wedding for months – originally scheduled for Seattle. Coordination, suits, colors, food, travel, venues…it was overwhelming. Especially since we lived on opposite sides of the country. So, one night we just decided to get married somewhere else, without all of the drama. We randomly picked Thailand. Ronnie had sent me a Youtube video from some company called Pure Bliss. I contacted the team on a whim, and Nanya got back to me the next day. I explained that we were on a budget. In under a month, she coordinated everything from across the globe!!!!

Pure Bliss Team: How did you find the wedding?

Ron: IT WAS EVERYTHING WE HAD IMAGINED! Pure Bliss Wedding team found us a venue and a private beach. We walked out on the warm sand, and I was holding my best friend’s hand. I am not emotional, but I started to tear up as I looked at everything that had been set up for us. The beach was groomed, there were flower petals, there was a simple canopy where our officiator awaited us. The whole team was there, and the music was surreal. They had Cannon in D playing for us, with the waves crashing in the background. Simple elegance. Everything was planned! The flowers, coordinators, photographers…everything went smoothly! They even added a small surprise for my husband – his favorite animal is an elephant, and the look on his face when they brought a happy baby elephant out was PRICELESS!! We spent time together laughing like little kids, playing with the elephant. The dinner was then set up for us on the beach. We had enjoyed our first dance together, and then got ready for dinner. We had a private chef and servers wait on us, as we enjoyed our first dinner as a married couple. It was a perfect day. I can’t thank the team enough for making our day…perfect.

Intimate + Glamorous Desert Wedding in Dubaï

This morning, we established with this couple’s gorgeous engagement session from Michael Ferire that it was entirely possible for the desert to be romantic. Now, their wedding is here to prove that the desert can be glamorous, too. From the Bride’s stunning rose and calla lily bouquet to the intimate ceremony in the sand, this wedding is seriously special. See all the swoon-worthy details here.

From Michael FerireCoraline and Johan wanted a simple, intimate and chic wedding, with a small number of guests, surrounded by those they love. They chose Dubai because it is a city where everything is possible. The contrast between comfort and desert was definitely one of the reason why they love this city so much.

The color palette has been balanced between warm and cold to underline the contrast of the city. From natural desert pastels to hard textures of steel and the architecture, Dubai was the perfect fit for the marriage they wanted.

Romantic Dubaï Desert Engagement Session

Who knew a desert could be romantic? Obviously, this sweet couple and their talented photographer, Michael Ferire, did and brought their vision of a desert romance to life with the gorgeous engagement photos below. With stunning light, a beautiful landscape and a couple so obviously in love, even the barren desert of the United Arab Emirates looks like an oasis for love. See it all here.

From Michael FerireFor their engagement shoot Coraline and Johan wanted something very natural. The best option was to use the desert as a minimal and warm place. The aim was to do an authentic engagement shoot and the Dubaï desert was a perfect fit for that.

Elegant Hong Kong Garden Engagement Session

With Hong Kong as one of the most densely-packed urban metropolises on Earth, you might be surprised to learn that this bustling city is actually made up of 70% green space. Photographer Brumley and Wells certainly was! He captured this darling duo in some of the quietest garden areas of the city, and this gallery couldn’t be any lovelier.

From Brumley and WellsHong Kong is surprisingly green. As a film photographer who typically seeks out the serene beauty of remote landscapes, I was nervous about the prospects of shooting in Hong Kong. I didn’t know what to expect. Turns out, Hong Kong is made up of 70% green space, and the possibilities were endless – mountains, water, beaches, orchards. For Stefen and Yoyo’s engagement session, we focussed on the soft colors of bougainvilleas and a small orchard near the shore, where we finished the shoot at sunset looking back towards Hong Kong Island.

Romantic Beachside Bali Wedding

A beachside wedding in Bali; it doesn’t get more romantic than this right here. But when the affair is overflowing with florals from Jonquilla Decor & Florist it surpasses expectations even more. Venema Pictures captured it all, from start to finish, and this gallery is what dreams are made of m’dears.

Romantic

From Jonquilla Decor & FloristKartika and Stefan have the most supporting family that helped with the wedding planning since they are occupied with work and travel. We met through a previous client’s recommendation and when we met, we went through all details she liked and she didn’t like; we like when brides tell us their expected style, it helps us understand easier and faster! They chose pink and a little fuchsia for their theme color. A play with bronze makes the color pops and you can’t go wrong with a wedding with the beach as the background. Gold tiffany chairs helped to bring out the elegance of the affair and the tulips created an effortless look.

From the Bride... I guess the most beautiful things happened when you least expected it. We met in 2005 when studying at Studienkolleg and I happened to take a fancy on Stefan and innocently decided to tell a friend. Accidentally, that particular friend passed on the news to Stefan and he came to me to express his mutual liking on me. Turned out, he had all these feelings for me but was just waiting for the right time to make a move.

We were dating long distance for seven years, between Germany, the United Kingdom, Netherlands, and finally Singapore and Jakarta for education and work placement. Even when we began dating, we were already a distanced apart, nevertheless, it was worth a try and we continued to have faith in it. A lot of friends asked what made this relationship work, despite only going out for real dates whenever we could, every two months or so. Without God’s grace and His love, we could not do it. Throughout our relationship, we maintained an honest and open communication, trust and keep on having fun with each other.

Stefan is always romantic in his own way and in the most unpredictable manner. Talk about us getting married did not come out of a sudden. After dating for several years, we both knew that we wanted to enjoy each others’ companion and grow old together. But just like any other couple, we had to prepare A-Z to be ready for a legal and eternal commitment. One day after a couple’s church retreat, at the last session of it, our mentor gave an instruction for us to write a love letter. When he handed out the letter to me, Stefan’s love letter was a marriage proposal. He was down on his knees and asked me to marry him.

The next big thing after he popped the question was for both our parents to meet. We grew up close with our families and we wanted them to be friendly and treat each other as part of the bigger whole family. For the wedding, we chose Bali, the most romantic island for a destination wedding to have an intimate celebration. We wanted it to be celebrated with people who matter to us. We chose the long table-set up rather than the round table to make it more intimate.

My mother-in-law helped with most of the wedding and I am beyond blessed to have her as a new family member. She is caring, generous and throughout the wedding planning I felt I got to know her more and I begin to love her as my own mother. The wedding planning came easy as we met vendors who were experienced, resourceful and reliable.

Everything that happened during our wedding etched a beautiful memory. My bridesmaid made a wonderful speech during the wedding and she advised how Stefan should be aware of some qualities of me. Just like most brides, I was nervous minutes before the ceremony, and with some cheers from my bridesmaid, I felt confident minutes before walking down the aisle.

We were shy to have our first dance and be the center of attention. So instead of a first dance, we danced together with the guests and threw the bouquet after a song. It was a simple and beautiful night for us. We felt the warmth and love from our friends and family members who simply made the effort to attend and celebrate it with us.

Vibrant Hong Kong Engagement Session

This adorable international couple (he from London; she from California) wanted their engagement session to fully represent where they met and fell in love, and if this stunningly vibrant gallery of images from Ann-Kathrin Koch, set in the multi-cultural epicenter of Hong Kong, doesn’t inspire some serious wanderlust in you, then I don’t know what will.

From The Bride…Tim and I met in Hong Kong where only a vibrant, multi-cultural city like Hong Kong could bring together an English-Malaysian boy and a Taiwanese-American girl. We had both moved to Hong Kong for the same company, although Tim from London and I from California. Sparks didn’t fly until a year later when we went on an accidental date (a group dinner where everyone else canceled. Really!) and realized we had so much in common despite growing up in very different places. Not long after, I knew that Tim was “the one” as we just clicked and our lives intertwined so seamlessly together. Three years later, Tim proposed on a sunrise hot air balloon ride in Myanmar and I have been floating on cloud nine ever since.

Although we are planning a destination wedding, I wanted to take our engagement photos in the place we met and fell in love, and I could not have asked for a more incredible backdrop than Hong Kong. As cliche as it is to say, Hong Kong really is a unique fusion of the East and West and old and new, which translates to countless photo opportunities! To take advantage of the city’s visually stunning juxtapositions, I chose places like Man Mo Temple, a vibrant red temple tucked in between towering skyscrapers, and the Star Ferry, a cross-harbor ferry that offers beautiful harbor and skyline views and has been operating since 1888. These places are also special to us as they are either within walking distance of our home or somewhere we frequent.

The right photographer was very important to us as we wanted to avoid cheesy engagement photos (otherwise Tim wouldn’t have agreed to take the portraits!). After much wedding blog-researching, I immediately knew Ann-Kathrin Koch was also “the one” as soon as I saw her work. She has a keen ability to capture natural and candid but still well-crafted portraits, complimented by her incredible use of light. We also really appreciated Ann’s laidback style that helped put us at ease during a process that can feel very awkward! We are so grateful to Ann for so elegantly capturing our love story on film, which I know we will look back on fondly in our old age and hopefully living somewhere less hectic.

Whimsical Bali Wedding Inspiration

I have yet to experience Bali firsthand, but one look at the poetic editorial photojournalism from Le Secret D’Audrey and I’m instantly transported. Polished, refined, romantic and luxurious, every detail Paper Diamonds orchestrated is an ode to the beautiful island and you can see them all in the gallery!

From Paper Diamonds… Shooting with Audrey was a dream come true. Her ability to cross high fashion editorial with poetic, romantic photojournalism is so unique and definitely dictated my direction for decor. I wanted something polished, refined, romantic and luxurious, and ode to her images.

The ghost chairs became the centre point of the theme, using that as a base to build on I then stuck to a neutral palette with pastel greys accented with deep greens. I tried to play with multiple textures that complement each other gently such as the tulle overlay with cotton paper stationery. I used items from our growing inventory of unique, authentically vintage one-off pieces such as the silver platters and our new gold cutlery set for that pop of colour. But oh, those ghost chairs. J’adore.

The Ali Charisma gown is a one-of-a-kind and I loved how he used the flower detailing on top of that netting in all the right places. Ashley fit perfectly in it and she seemed to effortlessly showcase the details. A dress for the wild at heart.

The stationery is also, custom handwritten/drawn pieces from Emily in Perth, Australia. Her geometric patterns could have seemed lost amongst all the straight lights but it added just the perfect amount of whimsy.

Gita from butter had free reign with design on this one, I told her the mood, showed her a few references and she created such a beautiful two tier cake with contrasting layers. Similarly to my table decor, the layers were different textures yet they seemed to just belong with one another.

Yeanne’s team member on hair & make-up. The brief was simple, give me “runway”. She is a brave bride. She is confident and she can definitely work a strong pouf.

Balion provided us with the perfect Bali setting. Nothing is more luxury Bali then a manicured tropical garden right next to the beach. Villa Shalimar’s gardens can host the perfect wedding setting under a Bali sky and the black volcanic sand beach is a unique and special part of the North-West Canggu coastline.

I am so grateful and so truly proud to have been able to work with such an amazing photographer and I am grateful to have exercised my wings on a new and beautiful style. I hope you like.

Tropical Beachside Thailand Wedding

Before you dive head first into the stunning flowers or the gorgeous beach behind today’s wedding, take a look at this picture. Where the bride and groom are smiling so big, you just know that they could have been married in paper bags and still be thrilled. Okay, now go on to all of the crazy beautiful details because if the couple had you at hello, the rest – perfectly planned by The Wedding Bliss Thailand and photographed by CJK Visuals – will melt your heart. More here!

From CJK VisualsI had never met Brian and Elaine, but we were connected through their wedding planner, Nanya. I knew that I would be traveling to Thailand from late March to mid April, so I reached out to Nanya in hopes that I could photograph an amazing couple while on my backpacking trip around the beautiful country. Luckily, she had booked Elaine and Brian and they were in need of a photographer!

Fast forward a few months later, and I’m meeting Nanya, Brian, and Elaine the day before the wedding at the gorgeous beachside reception. The next morning, the skies were a bit cloudy but the day was GORGEOUS. A precautionary tent was put up with calls for rain, but thankfully, the ceremony was still able to be out in the open underneath the tall palm trees! It did downpour for a bit during the reception, but everyone was too busy celebrating and dancing inside the tent to care

Elaine and Brian currently live in Hong Kong, but have family from Wales, Australia, several Asian countries, and more that all flew to Phuket for this gorgeous wedding! It just goes to show how loved and amazing they are! I had such an amazing time with these two, their friends, family, and incredible vendors!

From The Bride… I met Brian back in 2011, having relocated from London to Hong Kong for work. Not knowing anyone in this new shiny city, mutual friends from London played cupid and put us in touch. What can I say? That was nearly 4 years ago, a proposal, a ring and now a wedding!

Both being beach lovers, we knew instantly a destination wedding was for us. With Brian being from the UK and myself from Australia via Malaysia, Phuket seemed the perfect location, accessible for all the guests travelling in from across the globe. We viewed several resorts but when we set foot into Jivana Villa, on Natai Beach, it was an immediate YES! The private villa is a true piece of Thai paradise with a large, coconut tree lined lawn with a gorgeous secluded beach as the backdrop.

For the wedding theme and décor, I’m a great lover of jazz and all things vintage. I ran with a Great Gatsby theme so the vision was filled with colours of gold, silver, sparkles, and touches of black & white. One of my favourite parts of planning the wedding was creating a mood board to help pull together the look I wanted to achieve. Our wedding planners, Wedding Bliss, were absolutely amazing with the execution. They really delivered on every meticulous detail, combining their expertise with our bits and pieces of DIY, from the beautiful pictures frames that my dear sister managed to source and the spray-glued gold glitter votive holders completed the night before!

We were lucky enough to find Caitlin, our photographer from Maryland US, who happened to be in Phuket at the same time. A high recommendation from Wedding Bliss, Caitlin’s natural talent captured so many beautiful moments.

Finally, my wedding gown was created by a Hong Kong designer, Noel Chu. Not only does she have an exceptional design eye, but she is incredibly warm and professional and made me feel like a true part of the design process. The lace and feathery details on the dress were flawless and it truly was the wedding gown of my dreams.

What made the wedding truly special was the presence of our families and friends. We are incredibly lucky to have shared our special day with each and every one of our guests, who traveled far and wide. This is what a destination wedding is about!

Cambodian Destination Wedding

When this bride and groom decided to have their wedding in Cambodia, they knew they wanted to make it extra special. After spending two weeks traveling, the wedding party ended their trip with a traditional, awe-inspiring wedding. Captured by Brighter Lights Media, this video not only highlights the true beauty of Cambodia, but the unique cultural traditions that make this video so special.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/123879762 600 338]

From the Bride and Groom… This event was about much more than just our wedding – it was about bringing together family, friends and loved ones to experience a new place, culture and set of traditions together. We currently live in New York City (and Matt is originally from Boston), so while Ratavy’s family is Cambodian, many of the people who traveled with us on this trip were from the US. And for many of them, this was their first trip to Asia. We knew that this was a once-in-a-lifetime trip for many of the people coming, so we wanted to organize a trip around Southeast Asia, and ensure that it would be a memorable journey from start to finish.

The two weeks before the wedding ceremonies, me, Ratavy, & our closest friends and family traveled to Bangkok, Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, exploring all of the unique things those places had to offer. From navigating Bangkok’s incredible rooftop bar scene, to taking in the beauty of a sunrise over Angkor Wat, to charting a boat down a Cambodian river and riding elephants to the top of a mountain for a breathtaking sunset, everyone on the trip got to experience something totally new, and they did so together. It is impossible to capture everything that happened over those two weeks in a short video clip, but this teaser beautifully captures the essence of the journey, the sentiment of the group, and the epic proportion of the events that transgressed.

The actual wedding festivities took place over a day and a half period, which was reduced from the typical three-day traditional Cambodian ceremony. This was the first exposure to a traditional Cambodian wedding for both Ratavy and I, so we were learning on the fly, showing gratitude and respect at each step along the way, and focused on ensuring that we didn’t make a total fool of ourselves. The ceremonies ranged from the Melymuka family presenting a plethora of fruit as a gift to Ratavy’s family, to a “hair cutting” event where friends and family symbolically snipped away the past to prepare us for our future together, to a ritual with a line of nine monks positioned directly in front of us, chanting in unison. The ceremonies were a huge success, involved plenty of bowing, and provided great exposure to a new and different set of cultural traditions for everyone.

Cultural Nepali Wedding Inspiration

While we strive to keep this blog a true place of positivity and pretty, our hearts weigh heavy for those effected by the recent natural disasters in Nepal. It’s a tragedy we couldn’t overlook, which is why when Nina & Wes Photography reached out with images from their latest workshop, it felt like the perfect time to share. Take a glimpse at their time in this beautiful country with more info on how to help relief efforts below.

[dotted]

From Nina & Wes PhotographyThis bridal session was born out of our time spent in Nepal. We wanted people to be able to experience Nepal through the different elements of the session. We had a spread of spices that are found throughout Nepal and used in many of their cuisines. Bits of copper and brass can be seen with those elements, which were found and purchased in the streets of Kathmandu. Marigolds were central to the shoot, as you can see marigolds on any given street in Nepal. We loved seeing them draped over the bride who is wearing a stunning Carol Hannah dress that seemed to sparkle in the Nepali sunlight.

Just before Wes and I married, I lived in Kathmandu, Nepal for four months, doing volunteer work with street children and elderly women. I grew to love Nepal greatly, and have ached to return ever since. As a wedding photographer, it is easy to get swept away into all the pretty details and amazing people we meet as we capture one of the most special days of their lives on film. But my heart has always been happiest when working to make a difference in the lives of others, which always seems to do the same in my own life when I work towards that goal.

About 20 months ago, I woke up with an idea about a special kind of photography workshop. I wanted to do something more with our business. I wanted to go beyond business, and do something more in the world…something that would have lasting impact. Most photography workshops focus mainly on building your portfolio and growing your business, which is great and needed. But it can get competitive, and can cause you to lose focus on what is really important in this world…loving others, and giving back what we have been given. The Beyond Workshop focuses not only on encouraging photographers to be successful in their businesses, but to take their success and give back to those in need. We are asking the question…What is the meaning of success? Is it more money, bookings, and bigger houses? Or is it doing your absolute best in what you do, and taking that and giving back to the world that has given so much to you.

100% of the profits from this workshop go to orphan care and human trafficking interception in Nepal. None of the vendors take any pay, and this year we were able to give almost $8,000 to those in need in Nepal! The first half of the workshop is spent in classroom sessions revolving around business, and the second half of the workshop is spent doing volunteer work in Nepal. We had an amazing group of people this year, that gave everything they could to help this workshop succeed. Each attendee had their own part to play, and as the days unfolded, it was a joy to see each one of them fall in love with the country of Nepal.

The earthquake that occurred on April 25th in Nepal has shaken all of us. So many of the beautiful places we visited, and historical landmarks that we marveled at, are now piles of rubble. As far as we can tell, though, our loved ones and the people at the organizations we volunteered at, are all safe. Some of them have lost homes, but they have escaped the earthquake without injury. For that we are thankful.

This workshop is meant to inspire photographers to go beyond themselves and give back to the world in need. And through sharing images of this beautiful bridal session, we hope to remind people of the beauty of Nepal, not the poverty. Nepal is a country rich in history, and the people of Nepal are full of warmth and kindness. Walk down any given street in this enchanting country and have a conversation with someone…you may just find that you are invited in for some milk tea.

Some of the industry vendors that donated time or goods to help make our not-for-profit workshop succeed include: Magnolia Rouge, Jose Villa, Wildgrace Workshop, Paper Birch Designs, Julie Song Ink, Brown Linen Design, Kraft & Jute, Mrs. Box, Frou Frou Chic, Type A Society, Richard Photo Lab, State Film Lab, Goodman Film Lab, Carol Hannah, Gossamer Vintage, and Jacob Cecil.

A special thanks to Gautam Rai, our Nepali brother who made this workshop truly possible by arranging all of our lodging, meals, and volunteer opportunities. He was our translator throughout our time there, and he also helped our attendees see the importance of documenting the joy and warmth of the people of Nepal, over the poverty of Nepal. He and his wife, Rekha, along with 3 biological children, have adopted 11 beautiful girls, and have devoted their lives to orphan care, and are daily meeting the needs of others with what little they have. Since the earthquake, Gautam has been out in the streets from morning til night helping others. He and his family are a beautiful example of love in action.

If you are interested in helping the relief efforts that are occurring on the ground in Nepal, there are many amazing organizations that work tirelessly with the people there, not only providing aid right now, but long-term care after many other relief groups have returned back home.

Romantic Thailand Destination Wedding

This wedding right here, this unbelievably romantic and glamorous bash, is something out of a movie. That’s all I could think of as I went through Sandra Aberg’s beautiful photos, over and over again. The Wedding Bliss Thailand and IAMFLOWER worked magic, creating a wedding wonderland for these two lovebirds to say “I do” and we’re the lucky ones who get to obsess over these photos all day long.

From Sandra Aberg… The story of how Bo and Nat met is like a fairytale. Their first meeting was 13 years ago. Bo was studying architecture at Cornell University and returned to Thailand for a short visit. During her time back she attended a university presentation with her best friend, and the professor giving the talk was Nat. They both remember each other from that first encounter. Nat remembers a skinny young girl that was not his student and Bo remembers the handsome architect. That was their first meeting but they did not see each other again until 10 years later on an airplane to Singapore.

Bo was going to see the World Architecture Festival and Nat was going to be a judge at the competition, and they recognised each other right away. They ended up spending the next four days together with their common friends and quickly realised how many common interests they had like design, arts, and architecture.

Bo had just moved back to Thailand after spending four years working in Shanghai, so Nat offered to show her around Bangkok for upcoming special arts events and exhibitions and they both grew very fond of each other. There was just one problem…

Bo’s father, a Chairman of Central Group, one of Thailand’s biggest conglomerates, had asked his daughter to sign a contract when she was 14 years old and before she was sent to study abroad. The contract stated that she should not have a boyfriend until she graduated!

Bo was confident and knew that Nat was the right one for her so she ran to her mother and asked for advice on how to make her father accept Nat as her boyfriend. Her mother arranged a meeting between Nat and Bo’s father. Bo’s father agreed to meet Nat but not for a general lunch or dinner. Instead, he requested to have an official one-on-one interview with Nat with the purpose of finding out if Nat would be the right one for Bo. He didn’t want the billionaire son-in-law but instead wanted to see the guy who was smart and had a good heart with great ambition, a guy who could take care of his daughter in life’s best and worst situations. After the first meeting, Nat passed the first round but was asked for more interviews with Bo’s family. After many interviews and tests Nat finally got approved by all members. Nat then surprised Bo with a proposal at The Siam Hotel Bangkok, the place where they had their first official date.

After a big celebration in Bangkok, Bo and Nat decided to have a destination wedding to celebrate with only their close friends and family, which was about 250 people from all over the world. They chose Phuket as the destination due to the beauty of the beach and scenery. Also, they fell in love with the brand new hotel, Point Yamu by Como, situated at the tip of a peninsula with a stunning panoramic view. As architects they fell in love with the design and structure of the building and it just felt right from the first time they walked in there. To help them plan this amazing event they had the wedding planners from The Wedding Bliss take care of all the details and decor.

From The Wedding Bliss ThailandThis wedding was the wedding of the year in Thailand and had to be treated that way. Nothing was left to chance and every detail of the day was carefully planned. Bo and Nat wanted a pure romantic western styled wedding at Point Yamu by Como and wanted to begin with a Christian wedding ceremony followed by a sunset cocktail reception and dinner.

Inspired by the already stunning scenery and amazing design, we created a beautiful outdoor venue on the main lawn of the hotel with a view of the ocean as a backdrop for both the ceremony and the dinner. The location was decorated with chandeliers and hanging flowers to create a complete luxury dream fairytale wedding. The colours were rustic gold mixed with blush pink, white and greens.

To enhance their common interest in architecture, the registration table was decorated with the couples favourite architect books and the wedding favour was an architect ruler with the tag written “The Measure of Love is to Love without Measure.” We also created a gallery with images from their engagement session hanging from the outdoor roof with jars with flowers and ivy to enhance the couples love for art. In the pool area we put up a big Bo & Nat structure to create a nice backdrop for pictures and fun.

The overall feel was inspired by Bo’s unique character and style – a beautiful feminine woman with both elegance and class. We came up with the idea of transforming the whole lawn into a European flower garden. We used all imported flowers such as Pink David Austin Rose, Soft Pink Cymbidium, Ivory Rose, Soft pink Ranunculus and grey leaf. Both the ceremony and the reception was held in this amazing setting and was changed from ceremony to dinner in under two hours to great delight and surprise for all the guests that in the meantime were enjoying the sunset reception at the pool.

Fashion-Inspired Hong Kong Elopement Inspiration

Elopements seem to be coming across our desk more and more. Not just city hall style versions though, full scale weddings built only for two. And we sort of love it. So needless to say, this inspiration from Alea Lovely and Victorian Gardens, hit a note of perfection in our book. With a handful of different style options (not all shown so make sure to click the gallery!) and table decor, this is the very definition of pretty.

Colors
From Alea LovelyFrom engagement session to honeymoon, we have created a fashion elopement storied editorial to inspire women to go with a little color and perhaps a few different gowns to accentuate their personalities and journey through the wedding process. All the gowns were made by the talented Vivian Luk.

Starting with a striking non-traditional high-low lavender gown for the couple’s mountain peak engagement session, we subtly coordinated the colors without being too matchy-matchy as a nice way to show how to bring a theme to your photo shoot without stifling each person’s personal style. We took this engagement session just a notch up by adding a flower crown and bouquet because who doesn’t love a reason to carry a beautiful bouquet. The Groom-to-be wore a nice brown tweed vest and matching pants that complemented the natural lavender and green color palette of this beautiful location.

For the ceremony, we used a more traditional (in the color sense) white gown. But when you look at the gown, it’s anything but ordinary. The gorgeous sheer sleeves, intricate detail and A-line structure would make any bride feel like a princess. The custom gold flower crown added a vintage touch to this modern fairytale. Adding a little bit of blush for the reception gown and making it strapless for a bit more comfort, it seems that more and more brides are opting for a second dress to be able to honor their traditions and personal style during their day. But in this shoot we did not only focus on the Bride; the Groom needed to look just as stylish to rival such beautiful gowns.

Our Groom, sporting a grey velvet tie complementing a fitted blue European-style suit, is on trend with any gown a modern bride would wear. I think it’s important to think about your groom during this process in making sure he is comfortable but also looks just as good. You are the bride but this day is about two people so the groom should look and feel as great as you do. I learned a world of things this year about grooms’ style from www.mrbaldwinstyle.com, and there is more to dressing men than just a suit. The ins and outs about fit, neck size, sleeve length, inseam, lapel pins… the works, seems even more complex than what us girls have to deal with getting dressed. It’s important to make your groom a priority and learn together about what he likes and how to make him look good.

Sometimes we get very wrapped up in the details. So we wanted to simplify things a little bit for the Bride, who wants all the beauty but scaled down. Flowers are a way to make anything look more beautiful and the usage of bouquets and centerpieces were stunning arrangements that would make any small gathering look glamorous.

I’ve always thought it would be fun to be a honeymoon photographer (shameless plug for anyone interested haha) but I know a lot of brides have that moment after it’s all over where they feel like it went by way too fast. One way we wanted to extend your wedding bliss into your honeymoon is by implementing a gorgeous couture cape as a beachy statement piece for onlookers that says, ” Hey, we we just got married,” because who doesn’t love the added “Congratulations!” The piece was a perfect addition that gave our Bride just a little more frosting to the honeymoon cake.

Romantic Dubai Bridal Inspiration

Ethereal, elegant and filled with the most gorgeous light, this stunning shoot from Maria Sundin Photography with florals by Antheia Flower and styling by Bride Club ME is the kind of inspiration that will give you the best possible kind of chills. And that beyond dreamy gown from Saja Wedding? There are no words. It’s all just so divine.

From Maria Sundin PhotographyDubai based Photographer Maria Sundin teamed up with Bride Club ME, a local wedding inspiration website and directory to work on a styled shoot that would inspire brides in Dubai to tone down the bling and go back to the organic, humble and earthy roots of this place. Dubai is known for opulence and grand décor and many brides in the emirate opt for weddings with a lot of dazzle. Creating a shoot like this, had been on Maria and Rio from Bride Club ME’s minds for a while; as they wanted to execute a shoot that would inspire the brides of Arabia with something more traditionally ethereal and elegant, rather then the opulent and blingtastic weddings that the UAE are renowned for.

The inspiration for this shoot was to entice the typical Arabic bride and offer her the ethereal elegant feeling that would transport her back to the very raw and real Dubai that is often overlooked. We decided to collaborate with a more traditional Arabic venue, the Park Hyatt Dubai, located in the old parts of the city. We collaborated with like-minded vendors, and they all loved the simplicity and the elegance of this shoot’s concept. While we love wedding bands, we wanted to try something different, and while we couldn’t tattoo our bride, we could flash tattoo her! We think it’s a great idea for couples or even bridesmaids to wear something different, that’s customizable and that only wears for that one special day. The beautiful and dreamy headpieces by Anaqa added perfectly to the shoot. We also teamed up with the amazing dress brand Saja Wedding who make the most romantic and dreamy dresses, that Dubai brides can find easily accessible online despite being based out of town in N.Y. The dress was paired with some gorgeous Jimmy Choo’s. The mantilla veil that complemented this dress was from the Dubai Bridal Showroom, a local bridal boutique.

We also teamed up with stationary designer Emily at EverAfter Press, who drew inspiration from our mood board and brought to life an Arabic inspired suite of wedding stationery and calligraphy in the most simple form. It complemented our shoot perfectly. She also managed to source some gorgeous vintage stamps from a corner shop in Paris. We had a local artist, Liselotte Häster, spend hours drawing up the venue in watercolor to yet again give us some of that natural beauty we find so endearing about the Dubai and UAE. The flowers were put together by a local florist Antheia Flowers who managed to source some beautiful peonies, olive branches and silver dust. The makeup was done by Monica Make-up Dubai and the hair was done by Be Bar Blow Dry Bar in Dubai.

Pretty touches were added to the shoot throughout using products such as berries, raw silk ribbons, vintage ribbons and French nougat. The crystal glasses for the shoot were supplied by Mylist.ae, an online wedding gift registry based in the UAE. The full team involved in the shoot team were over the moon with the final images, and we are delighted to have a touch of the real Dubai showcased internationally via Style Me Pretty Weddings.

Rustic Bali Wedding

This, loves, is how you throw a wedding.  You pick a fab locale (hellllooo, Bali), hire some incredible vendors (think Baliku WeddingBloomz and Luxe Salon), then gather all of your nearest and dearest for a stunning celebration in paradise.  It’s basically the recipe for awesome, and when you have Veli Photography on hand to capture every colorful moment, well… that’s perfection.  See it here

From the Bride… When we started planning our wedding, we knew we wanted to keep it small and intimate. We wanted it to feel personal and something that reflected both our personalities. We knew we wanted the wedding to be fun and relaxed where guests could enjoy themselves with good food, drinks and atmosphere. The most important part of the wedding was to share our love with the most important people in our lives.

The inspiration behind our wedding was natural, colourful and rustic. We used lots of bright fresh flowers paired with rustic wooden furniture. Simple wooden tables were used with candles and vases full of flowers as the main centerpieces.

We used Etsy a lot to order personalised items for our wedding. Some of the things we personalisd was a guestbook made of wooden hearts for guests to sign as well as lollipops personalized with our names and date of wedding.

When we walked into our venue, we knew it was the one. Semara Uluwatu is perched high on the cliff tops of Uluwatu with the perfect ocean backdrop. It’s an intimate 7 villa resort away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of Bali.

The planning process had it’s ups and downs, but that was to be expected of a destination wedding. Our wedding planners, Baliku Weddings made sure everything and everyone was kept on track with the planning process. It was fantastic to see our vision slowly come together. We couldn’t have done it without the help of all our fantastic vendors.

The ceremony was a combination of both our heritages and faiths. We had both Jewish and Catholic aspects incorporated into the ceremony which was very special to share with all our family and friends. It was also very important for us to incorporate our families into the ceremony. We had our parents, brother and sisters share readings and blessings with us during the ceremony. We said our I do’s with the Indian ocean as our backdrop and it couldn’t have been more perfect.

We had dinner and dancing under the stars, with guests taking sandals and sunglasses as thank you gifts. Dancing continued throughout the night, with some of the guests jumping to the pool for a swim and cool off.

We had the most amazing day and are so blessed to have had our family and friends travel from all over the world to celebrate with us.

Chic Outdoor Bali Wedding

From schoolmates to soulmates, this perfect pair wed amongst the beautiful shores of Bali. And when the Bride just so happens to be the creative force behind Jonquilla Decor, you know it’s bound to be good. Think elegance meets ease, with fuschia, Legos and lace sprinkled in along the way. Want even more? Andry “Dre” Sander Of Axioo has it all waiting for you here!

From Jonquilla DecorWho would have thought that once a schoolmate would be a soulmate? Nathania and Ryan met when they were in High School, but Ryan was the senior in the school and Nathania was just a new student. To Nathania, Ryan was that arrogant, loud and obnoxious guy while to him, she was nerdy. After multiple lost and found contact, they decided to meet for a casual lunch at a Japanese restaurant in Jakarta and part of the chase was he going to Bali to see her seven days later. The rest was now a beautiful history.

From the beautiful Bride… I have always wanted an outdoor and casual affair, rather than a ballroom reception. Living in Bali, the event stylist of Jonquilla Decor & Florist, and working among people who are in the wedding industries is a total advantage for us. It makes the planning process went so much faster and smoother as we received a lot of recommendations and tips from each vendor. I chose fuschia and lime green as my color and I wanted wood and glass elements and no-frill centerpiece as the dinner was served family style.

When I was traveling to San Francisco, I managed to look for bridal gown. I had a specific model that I wanted but when I tried it on, it did not “wow” me. Suddenly the shop assistant showed me a beautiful ivory of previous season’s Alvina Valenta gown with a key hole on the back and after putting it on, I knew it had to be my wedding gown. It was a strapless mermaid style gown, perfect for a beach side wedding.

Finding the perfect venue was the initial challenge. With a lot of families from both of our sides, we wanted a big space without the feeling of too grandeur (ballrooms were definitely crossed out from the start). Besides, a wedding in Bali meant vacation for most of our guests who flew in from out of town and country. After searching high and low for the perfect venue, we put our heart in W Retreat – Seminyak, The Starfish Bloo restaurant to be exact . The beach view was perfect, the atmosphere was fresh and the interior was new, funky and chic. The most important thing for Ryan was the food. He is big when it comes to yummy food and he wanted that the guests were served with good food. On the day of our wedding dinner, the food was mouth-watering. We had the perfect fusion of Asian and Western food and the guests said that the dishes were absolutely fantastic.

I thought wedding was all tiring and busy, turned out the pace was slower than we thought before. I had the time in the morning to do my own wedding bouquet of roses, spray roses, carnations, and cymbidium orchid and finished it just in time just before Paul, my make up artist, came and started my make up and hair do.

I was raised Catholic and I wanted to get married in a Catholic church. Thankfully Ryan and his family were agreeable and understanding. The Cathedral of Holy Spirit (or Gereja Katedral Roh Kudus) has a unique architecture of blending the Balinese design and European style. The exterior was a red brick wall, which was typical of Balinese temples and houses and our date was available. One of the Priests who officiated the ceremony was a family friend whom we felt very close with.

When it came to selecting the wedding party, it was sort of a rule in our family that only the unmarried can become the bridesmaid ( and I was the only left single girl in my circle). So I picked my sister to be my Maid of Honor. Ryan’s Junior College’s friend, Jack, was his Best Man. We wanted a slightly unconventional matrimony so instead of the usual church choir, we had a saxophonist, a singer and a guitarist to sing in our church.

We also did follow some traditions of a Peranakan Chinese wedding. Peranakan means “descendants”, so we observed some of the Chinese tradition, for example a Chinese Tea Ceremony. Instead of my father gives me away to a marriage, Ryan picked me up at my house with a hand bouquet. My grandmother told me that in the olden days it symbolized the respect the groom had to give for the bride’s family before marrying the daughter. We also followed loosely a part of Javanese tradition where Ryan was showered with flower petals, coins, and yellow rice grain before entering my house in the morning to symbolize prosperity that he is bringing to the new family.

After months of planning the wedding decorations, of course while in the middle of planning other couples’ weddings, I delegated the job to Deasy, my partner at Jonquilla Decor. I wanted to enjoy my day as a bride so I handed over all things I had done to her about a month before and trusted her. Deasy was not only handled all logistics well, she understood what I wanted immediately and mesmerized us with the creative touch for our wedding. My best friend,Wita, was a great help too. She designed our wedding invitation and the rest of the wedding stationery, and later wrote down all the escort cards two days before the D-day.

The guests arrived for the cocktail reception by the lawn overlooking at the Indian Ocean at 5pm. It was bright and sunny the entire day, so when the sun set, the scenery was truly breathtaking. A lot of our guests took the opportunity to watch the beautiful sunset while savoring the small bites and sip our favorite cocktail selections specially mixed by the bartenders at W Retreat for our wedding. Guests could walk around and saw the display of our engagement shots, as well as our parents’ and grandparents’ wedding pictures.

Growing up in the 90s and listening to music in that era, we wanted a list of songs that express love from that period of time. So we picked several music for the acoustic band to play, and we put a little card for our guests to request songs to play and our wedding planner helped to collect those cards to pass it on to the band to play. So we got songs like Lee Ann Rimes’ “I need you” and Ronan Keating’s “When You Say Nothing At All”.

Ryan’s sister and my sister gave a lovely speech describing how we were their best friends ever since childhood and complimented how perfect Ryan and I are for each other. We were so happy that a lot of our relatives came in for the wedding and friends who live abroad came to celebrate the day with us. It was the wedding that we both dreamed of, a simple and intimate celebration, surrounded by our closest.

Approaching the end of the reception, we danced to the tune of Elton John’s “The Way You Look Tonight”. It was a song we picked together that brought us to the memory of our first dinner at that Japanese restaurant. Soon we were joined by our friends and our best man led a “Yam Seng” Toast.

Elegant Semara Villa Resort Wedding

I’ve never met a Bali wedding I didn’t love. Splashed with green palms, white villas and an all out irresistible tropical vibe, Bali is a destination made for weddings—weddings like this one from Ben Yew Photography. The fresh, clean details are what pulled me into the gallery, but it’s moments like this one that have my heart racing.

From Ben Yew PhotographyThis amazing wedding was captured in Semara Villa in Bali. The view is simply stunning, at the edge of the mountain, the large open spaces, the amazingly styled outdoor reception and the awesome couple of course that made everything happen. My favourite part besides the beautiful venue and amazing people, is actually the surprise performance from the groom and his friend. When the life band was playing and suddenly the Dave & his mate just took over the mic and started singing. It felt so nice to see them having a such a great and enjoying time!.

From the beautiful Bride…We had seen some of Ben Yew’s work on a friends facebook page which we absolutely loved so tracked him down from there. Ben’s fine art approach to his work is so soft and beautiful and he captured our cheeky smiles and love perfectly on our wedding day.

Romantic and Colorful Bali Wedding

At the hands of Flying Bride, this colorful affair is complete with shades of blue and honeycomb. Complemented by the blossoming botanical arrangements, azulejos tiles transformed the palette through customized cushions, table runners, and even the wedding cake! Angga Permana captured every detail and it’s all waiting for you here!

From Flying Bride… Tintin is passionate about healthy living and eating. Together with Paul, they founded Cocofrio, a certified organic coconut milk ice cream. The range of flavour Cocofrio offers and its colorful packaging inspired me to use these colors as their wedding color palette. Hence blue, tan, brown, shades of mango and golden honeycomb were chosen as their wedding color palette.

In terms of decoration, since Paul’s favorite season is the Spring where there are blossoming flowers, green leaves, sunshine, and bright days, we combined various beautiful flowers and leaves arranged in a botanical arrangement. We also used glamorous candelabras, light bulbs and fairy lights to represent sunshine to brighten their wedding day.

The final touch we included into the wedding was Azulejos tiles (Portugal tiles), which Tintin loves. Transformed to the color palette of the wedding, its interesting pattern was shown in all the stationeries of the wedding including their customized cushions, table runners, and even on the wedding cake!

Tropical Fruit Wedding Inspiration

Organic elegance is my favorite style, and this piece of pretty? Well, it’s layers of tropical hues anchored against timeless touches. Inspired by nature’s offerings, Beautiful Gatherings conceptualized tropical tones and from the hand-dyed table runner, to the Floral Magic blooms, every detail is wildly romantic. Brody T Photography was on hand and captured every sunny moment!

From Nineteen Design Studio… Conceptualized and led by Bryan of Beautiful Gatherings. The inspiration for this shoot came from two areas in his life, the fascination of nature’s offerings and his traveling experiences. He grew up in a humble home built by his grandpa. Bryan spent many mornings running around in the home, helping mum with gardening and eating lots of home cook food. Returning to Asia after a sabbatical in South America, he came back, yearning for all the exotic fruits. When he discovered Bollywood Veggies, a sanctuary away from the bustle of the “Little Red Dot”. Set in the rustic environment of the northwest Kranji Countryside, visiting is a step back to Singapore’s lush history. It almost felt like his playground for the young.

When putting together the garden shoot, Bryan visited the local fruit stall. The red hue of Lychees and blue Mangosteens tones became the anchor of inspiration. Upon tabletop, a hand-dyed table runner from northern Thailand, placed with stunning floral by Floral Magic, placed in tree-bark containers, and an array tropical fruits for the guests to enjoy. The floral for this styled shoot were also designed to capture the feminine yet wild and free romantic in us all! We loved the colored floral of Dahlias, Nigella Pods, Germini, Sedum, mixed with Blue thistle and Smoke Bush. It was the perfect color complement to the hand-dyed table runner and the awesomely organic outdoor setting. Organized elegance in a rustic setting could never be wrong. The day set the tone bringing together a quiet happiness and rejoices in the company of closest friends and family.

Our Tropical Fruit styled wedding shoot took place on a perfect sunny morning. Brody of Brody Tan Photography was on hand to capture all of the details with film photography!

For the stationery, Joanne of Nineteen Design Studio created the invitation suite based off the hand-dyed as the inspiration, through the deep and lustrous hues of the tropical fruits, thus transcended the theme artistically into the various paper elements. We really wanted the paper goods to reflect the wedding palette and mood. Watercolors, hand-dyed always remind me of summer and spring, and I love how they blend together in a romantic fashion.

Love Yu provided a lovely enchanted dress that comes in the versatility of wearing it short and long, thus allows the bride to move around the venue swiftly and gracefully. For the makeovers and hairstylist, Charmaine Tok, were on hand to ensure that our bride looked absolutely stunning!

Villa

From Imaj GalleryI am delighted to share this beautiful wedding of L & K. I am very happy being a part of this wedding.

From the beautiful Bride…We spent the week leading up to our wedding with our friends and family in magical Bali, one of our fave places in the world! We then had our bridal party stay with us at the Villa for the wedding. It was so lovely waking up together, having a delicious breakfast and relaxing by the pool before the wedding preparations began. Our day was just magical! We were so grateful to all our family and friends who travelled to Bali to celebrate with us and so touched by the all the love we received from everyone. Looking back on the photos now you can literally see the love that was in the air.

I had my mum walk me down the aisle to the acoustic version of Eric Clapton’s ‘Wonderful Tonight’. It was a beautiful, intimate moment we shared just before we walked out and one I will treasure forever. Walking down the aisle and seeing Calvin was just amazing. We both had butterflies!

We really enjoyed having our professional photos taken which literally just involved us having fun whilst being photographed! Our photographer, Imaj did an incredible job of capturing genuine raw images and we are so over the moon that we chose them.

Some wonderful speeches were said at our wedding. Calvin and I both said a speech and it was something I am so glad I did. It felt so good to acknowledge the people in my life who mean so much to me.

We loved our first dance to one of our favorite Van Morrison songs ‘Days like This’. We didn’t have much time to practice and we thought we might be nervous but in the end we just let it all go and really enjoyed the moment for what is was, our first dance together as husband and wife! It was so much fun and one of the highlights of our day.

Our florist, Florette really helped create a a lovely romantic feel for our reception through our gorgeous table arrangements. On top of lace table runners that we had made we had a mixture of roses, hydrangeas and baby’s breath in different sized vases and bottles with some placed on wooden logs. We adored the absolutely gorgeous ceremonial arch, bouquets and bespoke table arrangements. In fact I couldn’t help but shed a tear when I saw them! It really was everything I had envisioned. I felt like I was lost in the best dream of my life!

Something that was really important to us was for our wedding day to be a true reflection of us and we definitely feel as though who we are was embodied in so many facets on the day.

I didn’t have a great deal of time to look for a dress given our 4 month wedding timeframe. The dress I chose was the first one I tried on. loved the gorgeous intricate lace pattern and the sweet jacket. It was perfect for Bali’s balmy weather, whilst still being classic and elegant. My bridesmaids dresses were picked to suit each of them and ordered online. Calvin and his groomsmen’s attire was from Marcs.

We didn’t have time to travel to Bali to check out potential venues, however after considerable research we chose the very rustic and gorgeous Villa Istana Semer in Umulas, just north of Seminyak. We were so incredibly fortunate to have chosen this Villa as it proved to be a truly stunning estate full of character and charm. After locking in our venue we only had four months to plan our wedding so we were quite busy and it wasn’t always easy, however we worked closely with our Wedding Planner Karen from Cher Ange Weddings who was fantastic. We really couldn’t have done it without her, she helped pull everything together on the day so we could just relax and enjoy it!
