From Luna de Mare… Nicole and Robert got married at the beautiful Sunstone Winery in Santa Ynez Valley, California. Every elegant detail of this quintessential vineyard wedding was designed to perfection by Kristin of Esoteric Events. Floral artist, Coco Rose Design, crafted the most beautiful bouquets, cascaded florals on the ceremony chuppah, and covered the reception tables with blooming seasonal dahlias in centerpieces, alongside sweet little bud vases of varying heights.

The guests enjoyed viewing the glorious sunset as they noshed on aperitifs, and clinked their glasses with the award winning wine of Sunstone’s pristine vineyards. After dinner, they concluded their intimate celebration by dancing the night away to a live band crooning some of their favorites, under the gaze of the golden moon.

From the Bride… Our journey began our sophomore year of college. Even though we started off as just friends, from the moment we met we knew what we had was something special. With graduation brought years of long distance, myself a California native and Bennett from Colorado, but finally the stars aligned and we ended up together in our dream city, New York. We immediately knew this city filled with so much love and meaning for us both would be the perfect setting for our wedding. We chose our venue, The High Line Hotel, for its breathtaking Refectory Room, rich history, ornate details and renaissance charm. As a bride you’re always told to prepare for a chance of rain, but we never expected a constant downpour in the middle of Fall! Even though the showers never let up, it created a gorgeous backdrop for our first look and gave the entire candlelit evening a very special and intimate feel. We have the absolute best friends and family who flew from all over to celebrate our love, and we are forever grateful to everyone who took this journey with us.

From Laurie Arons… Lauren & Brian’s wedding at the Santa Lucia Preserve was one of those special experiences that comes around every so often in this business. The couple and their families were so much fun and really wanted to create a memorable and personal wedding for their guests. The bride is an accomplished equestrian, so we incorporated nods to this special part of her life throughout the day – a horse shoe escort display, vintage trophies amidst the flowers and linen napkins with custom horse shoe embroidery. Lauren’s horse is named Magnolia, so Mindy Rice created beautiful magnolia trees at the entrance to the barn, while Perfect Endings adorned the deep green-blue cake with sugar magnolia blossoms. We made sure to incorporate the groom’s favorite things, like ice cream and a fine Scotch, in fun ways too. Passed gelato bon bons and dedicated Scotch bar were part of the after-dinner fun. The dinner itself was designed by acclaimed San Francisco chef Traci des Jardins, who worked with culinary team at the Preserve to execute it to perfection. Guests enjoyed a raw bar and caviar station at cocktails, then dined on gnocchi with lobster and filet mignon in the barn.

From Meghan Mehan… Dana and Bobby’s intimate San Francisco City Hall wedding was one of the most beautiful days. The couple reserved one of the wings on the top floor of City Hall for their ceremony, which is a beautifully lit and detailed space. String musicians played as the guests mingled before the ceremony. With their closest family and friends looking on, the couple exchanged their vows on the balcony overlooking all of City Hall. They had traveled from Texas to get married beneath the golden tones and grand architecture of City Hall, which offered such an extraordinary environment for their celebration as they were surrounded by their closest family and friends. It was a day full of meaning, family celebration, and beautiful details.

After the ceremony, we photographed around the Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco, photographing the couple walking up the hills of SF, as well as surrounded by all of the beautiful fall-colored trees and bougainvillea that are so unique to California. The cocktail hour and reception took place at 54 Mint, a modern Italian trattoria near City Hall. The outdoor brick patio offered a space for guests to mingle and celebrate, and it was perfect for Dana and Bobby’s first dance. The restaurant’s warm inviting interior provided a comfortable ambiance for them to share a meal with their guests, many of whom traveled to be there with them on this wonderful day.

From Brooke Beasley Photography… A unique venue located in the Sonoma California wine country. This color palette was so pleasing and everything about the event screamed California cool. The couple is from LA and chose to have a destination wedding with their closest. From the lawn ceremony, to the tented dinner and barn dancing, this wedding was anything but dull. The Bride’s Lazaro dress was elegant and chic, and the Groom is a classic tux with a bit of flair on his socks. The rich tones of this July wedding reminded me of the upcoming fall. While cocktail hour was going on, there were lawn games and ample time to roam the art fixtures at the venue. Closing out the night there were late night snacks and dancing in the barn to keep warm on those chilly wine country nights. Such a fun wedding and one that will be remembered by all who attended.

Camp Wedding might just be the best ever workshop. Dreamed up by the ladies of Cherry Blossom Events along with photos by Lexia Frank, it’s glamping at its finest with a cozy lakeside backdrop and decked out welcome backpacks, delicious farm-to-table meals and dance parties galore – oh and important stuff like floral workshops and loads of business advice. Forget everything you remember from childhood summer camp and meet a one of a kind workshop that’s all glamped up.

Mosquito bites, poison ivy rashes, sunburns, and homesickness are just a few of the things you’d associate with summer camp. Least of all would be floral design workshops, expert-provided small-business advice, decadent farm-to-table meals beneath a canopy of trees, twinkling lights and starry night skies, and a DJ-led dance party where campers could cut a rug–or more like a few blades of grass. But such was the case for creative and wedding professional campers in attendance at the second-annual Camp Wedding. This one-of-a-kind retreat is the brainchild of Andrea VandeBerg and Sarah Sarbacker, co-owners of Madison, Wisconsin-based Cherry Blossom Events, who first set out to offer respite for vendors following the busy summer wedding season as well as creative inspiration and small business tips and tricks to entrepreneurs of all kinds. Building on the success and rave reviews of their inaugural 2015 event, this year’s Camp Wedding proved to be equally exciting and inspiring.

Friends Forever

There seems to be a special bond that forms at summer camp. While that tends to occur after spending weeks of time together, with more than 70 percent of campers being repeat attenders from year one, Camp Wedding proves it only takes three days to happen. Many hugs and excited squeals came as campers from year one were reunited, ready to not only be creatively inspired by the speakers and workshops in store but also catch up with peers about work and personal life. Andrea and Sarah, along with very helpful event assistants Emily McCann and Hanni Gould, created a welcoming feel upon checking in the first day, warmly greeting campers, sharing itineraries for the day, and handing out perfectly-themed backpack swag bags filled with goodies such as a chic glass water bottle, a Turkish towel to accommodate the coming outdoor yoga session, gourmet popcorn, a campfire-scented candle, and and many locally-sourced items.

Something for Everyone

Despite the name Camp Wedding, you didn’t need to be a wedding photographer, event planner, florist, or other industry vendor to take away something special from this retreat. Budding photographers looking to take on family and senior class portraits or social media users looking to up their Instagram game walked away with amazing tips from destination wedding photographer Lexia Frank of Lexia Frank Photography. Those with creative careers or who simply love DIY as a hobby were touched by photographer, educator, and artist Jenna Kutcher’s welcome speech focusing on how to stay inspired to keep on creating. And for any entrepreneur or even someone looking to get a promotion, valuable “closing the deal” tips came from the always entertaining Ali Phillips of Engaging Events by Ali. When campers weren’t using their left brains, their right brains got crafty, trying their artistic hand at basic watercolor skills following the guidance of Saffron Avenue’s Angela Mondloch to paint beautiful foliage. And the greenery trend continued with a fun workshop led by floral-design artist Amy Osaba of Amy Osaba Design. Guests blended foraged leaves and wildflowers with beautiful blooms provided to create statement floral arrangements and lovely olive-leaf based crowns, the latter a common accessory worn the final night of camp.

All Glamped Up

If you’re loving the idea of a creativity-based retreat but are turned off by the idea of camping, don’t be. Set aside visions of sleeping on the ground with a pesky rock poking into your ribs, rustic pit toilets straight out of a horror movie, and showerless days spent covered in grit stuck to residual bug spray and sunscreen. Situated on a sprawling lake surrounded by mature trees, Camp Wandawega in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, offers an experience more 1950s vintage chic than really rustic roughin’ it. Comfy beds are nestled within cottages, cabins, and a group bunkhouse, all of which have electricity and the latter including indoor plumbed bathroom and showers. If you want to get a bit more one with nature, “glamp” it up in a tent, teepee, or newly added A-frame glass hut with secluded views overlooking the lake. Each offer cozy mattresses to rest on after an exciting day canoeing the lake, taking a ride on the rope swing, chatting with a friend in a hammock, or touring the grounds filled with rich history and decor (not to mention a few spooky ghost stories). 

Hungry for More

Equally less rustic were the locally-sourced and made snacks and meals guests were served. Mornings began with indulgent pastries and sweet treats that paired perfectly with signature cups of coffee brewed as if meant to touch one’s soul. Lunches were held beachside, with gourmet tacos on day one and classic sandwiches, side salad, and chips on day two. Granola bars and evening cocktails hours held over campers, each highly anticipating multi-course meals sure to make any foodie drool. And of course no camping experience would be complete without s’mores around the campfire, where guests got to know one another, talk a little shop, and share a few much needed laughs. Ask any camper there, and you’re sure to hear Cherry Blossom Events went above and beyond in creating an awe-inspiring environment where peers could learn, connect, grow, and unwind. Like many before them who had to say goodbye after fun-filled days away from home, Camp Wedding goers left with heavy hearts that the event was done, but a pep in their step and a renewed sense of purpose of what the futures held for their businesses and budding new friendships.

From the very first day of medical school, Joan and Stephen were inseparable. They share a story-book love and held a stunning and warm celebration to match! We are still giggling thinking about the speech shared at the wedding by the best man and college friend that witnessed their beautiful and sweet relationship develop over the years.

With Joan’s Korean heritage, Stephen knew that he wanted to propose in Korea where her family resides. So, in the city of Seoul at night while crossing a sweet little bridge, Stephen got down on one knee to pop the question.

Joan and Stephen knew immediately upon visiting the gorgeous Kirkland Manor House and property on the Eastern Shore of Maryland that it would be the absolute perfect location to celebrate their wedding. They wanted to host their event somewhere that would allow all of their out-of-town guests to enjoy the serene waterfront views and to have a place to relax and call home for the weekend.

The celebration began on the night before the wedding with a beautiful Korean wedding ceremony in traditional Korean wedding attire with their immediate family members. On the wedding day, Moore & Co. Event Stylists along with Blush Floral Design Studio created a gorgeous setting with a soft and dreamy color palette of lavender, whites, and greens.

There were so many truly heartfelt moments throughout the day with a father-daughter first look that made everyone in the room shed a few tears. We especially fell in love with this couple’s “tree-planting ceremony” in which they combined and used the soil from each of their hometowns to plant one family tree symbolizing their unity. The reception did not disappoint with Joan & Stephen performing a super fun, choreographed Gangnam style dance that made everyone get out on the dance floor!

From the Bride… Asad and I got engaged in January 2016. Prior to that day, I had never put much thought into what my wedding might one day look like. As a child and later an adult, I knew that I wanted to marry one day but I skipped forward to imagining what my house would look like or if I would have children. Once we began planning our wedding the only requirement I had was that it be outside. I wanted the natural environment to set the tone for a day I hoped would be full of joy and peace.

Upon selecting our venue on the Jersey shore, I began to more fully conceptualize what I wanted the day to look like. Our marriage was an interfaith, intercultural union which required multiple ceremonies and, to everyone’s liking, parties. We began to refer to this part of our celebration as our “beach wedding.” I knew that I wanted our “beach wedding” to offer a different feeling than our other Indian celebrations. I opted for a soft, romantic color palette using light pinks and greens with other pastels utilized at times. I did not want to use a color palette typically associated with the beach as I felt the ocean made enough of a statement for itself and did not need to be reflected in the décor.

The ocean, however, did play a part in our unity ceremony. Guests were asked to select a piece or pieces of sea glass from a dish prior to sitting down. The pieces of sea glass were held throughout our ceremony. My Godparents, who participated as officiant and reader, instructed guests to meditate on an intention for Asad and my marriage as they held their selected sea glass. After placing our written vows into a customized glass box, our parents first placed their pieces of sea glass in to later be followed by the rest of our guests. We walked away with our vows surrounded by the loving intentions of our friends and family.

Each moment of our ceremony and reception were special in their own rite, even the bumps along the way. One of my favorite parts of the day was to see our families come together through laughter, dance and a shared love for myself and Asad. I am so appreciative of the care and thoughtfulness that my family and bridesmaids put into celebrating Asad and I. My mother hand crafted elements that were incorporated into our unity ceremony which remain treasured items and my favorite crafted detail.

Our flower arrangements, designed by A Garden Party, captured the soft, romantic feeling that I wanted the wedding to invoke. My bouquet was a gorgeous cascading arrangement that flowed in front of my dress gracefully. The arrangement paired perfectly with the blush dress I had selected. My dress, designed by Martina Liana, was made of organza and flowed down just past my feet. The waves in the fabric of the dress reminded me of the curvature of the inside of a seashell. The flowers were also displayed on our wedding cake which was a “naked” lemon cake with a light dusting of white frosting. The “naked” cake fit into my idea of understated elegance. Our cake was topped with swirling gold letters reading “And so the adventure begins.”

We might be in the thick of winter, but really, what better time to dream of the perfect summertime wedding? Designed with an old-school, Americana vibe, Melissa and Chris made sure their seaside affair was as classic as apple pie (literally) serving apple pie flavored cake and blueberry pie shooters. From the couple… We wanted our wedding to feel like a very fun, relaxed summer party. We knew we wanted to get married at our parents’ house because that is where we got engaged and also where Chris met my parents for the first time.

We love the homemade/ American summer feel and made sweet details like our cake toppers and embroidered welcome sign.

We were inspired by the water and air and wanted it to feel peaceful and elegant, put together but simple at the same time.

It took us forever to find a photo booth, I called so many vendors and I finally found one near us that we loved! It was a VW van from the 60’s that was converted into a unique photo booth. It fit perfectly with our summer beach wedding vibe.

We had an apple-pie flavored cake with pie crust crumbles from Momofuku Milk bar in New York. My sister was so nice to pick it up for us and our caterer had blueberry pie shooters.

We love the vintage feel for our wedding as well and I loved drawing inspiration from classic American summers and memories from spending time at my grandma’s beach cottage nearby. My caterer, Inspired Catering (who has been friends with my dad since childhood), found mismatched vintage champagne glasses for our day and gave us the extra ones as a gift! I found mismatched lace table runners, and our caterer added greenery and florals to go on top.

Our florist, Mar Floral, understood our vision perfectly and was so understanding. Every time I sent a new picture, she knew what we wanted. She put succulents everywhere including the bouquet and boutonnieres (and we still have some saved!). I wanted the flowers to look like they were just picked from someone’s backyard garden.

My bouquet was a tribute to my grandparents (and my photographer Elena added a beautiful pink ribbon to hold my grandparents’ charms).

When designing your future babe’s nursery, a calm and cozy environment is often the end goal. But this small yet mighty space is here to prove that even calm, cool nurseries deserve some fabulous art. With an abstract painting by Lanie Mann, the best ever beach scenes from Gray Malin, and a stunning sailboat mobile too, this little boy’s dream space was crafted. I was so excited to capture Porter’s stunning modern nursery and newborn session on film a few weeks ago, and it’s absolutely my favorite part of my work being able to watch families grow! I was able to capture Christin and Rob’s maternity photos this summer, and the sweet anticipation of awaiting this beautiful baby boy was contagious.

 When Porter arrived this fall, I was thrilled to meet Christin and her husband Rob in their beautiful home in the heart of Washington DC. It was no surprise that their little boy is perfectly adorable, and just a week after being born he was ready to show off his happy personality to the world.

 Porter’s beautiful nursery is decorated white soothing tones and a cool color palette, designed around a unique abstract painting by Lanie Mann as focal point, and a few adorable accent pieces like the white ship kite from Salt and Sundry.

 It was such a pleasure capturing this sweet family in their gorgeous home, and I can’t wait to see what other amazing moments the future holds for these three!

From the Bride… Garrett proposed on February 20th, 2016. We had just celebrated our 4 year anniversary the weekend before and we were planning on driving up to Nashville to visit our families for the weekend. His family is from Orlando and mine is from Nashville so there were very few times where we could get everyone together all in the same weekend.

Friday was just a normal day but Saturday we had planned on meeting up with his family in Edwin Warner Park and then we would meet up with my family afterward for brunch. We pulled into the park but we didn’t see any of his family. Garrett parked the car and as we got out I saw a blanket off in the distance with a bottle of champagne and flowers everywhere. We walked up to the blanket that he had set up and he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! Afterward, we had a celebratory brunch at my house with both of our families there!

Our wedding was so incredible! We had our first look at Percy Warner Park which borders Edwin Warner Park (where we got engaged). The weather that day was beautiful! 70 degrees and not a cloud in the sky! We had a trolley transport the wedding party from the church to the reception. At the reception, my dad made a toast along with my two maids of honor and Garrett’s two brothers.

We had a seated dinner in the ballroom. The band came into the reception hall after we cut into our cake and made the champagne toasts. They played the trumpets and summoned everyone outside where the dance floor was. The food that night was incredible and we had sliders handed out around 10:00 that night. We had a Vintage Silver and Black Rolls Royce as our getaway car with a rose petal send-off!

Jonathan and Clare, having been together for 12 years, have traveled the world together and supported each other through thick and thin.  There is nothing like the love between two people that has truly overcome the test of time.

Their day was stunning from beginning to end.  Mid-way through the reception, the bride re-entered in her new dress with much deserved fanfare.  From there, her and her groom had a surprise choreographed dance planned for their guests, which was executed with perfection.

Jonathan and Clare, your wedding is one for the books!  We will always remember your wedding as one of the most beautiful, yet fun weddings we have ever done.  Congratulations you two!  We wish the best to both of you and what’s yet to come!

From Chic Weddings in Italy… We met Courtnay and Deyhven in 2015 through a lovely Skype call. They were sweet, in love and very keen on getting married in our beautiful country. I remember chatting with them and thinking that they were really a committed couple and really sure about their idea to have a destination wedding.

Their priorities for the wedding celebration focused on enjoying a good time with their guests, treating them to fine wine and exquisite Italian dishes. They also wanted to have a recognized civil wedding in Italy and celebrate this important day not with a symbolic ceremony but with a real contract and signatures.

The palette for the wedding was blush pink, white, and light tones of gray, using a touch of gold which was used throughout the use of the gold candelabras depicted in the images.

The bride and the groom were very elegant and very beautiful and the night passed with a dinner under the Tuscan stars, among friends and family all dressed up for the occasion.

Courtnay and Deyhven are very much in love and that’s what we love about this couple. We could feel their love in their eyes and on the wedding day they were very relaxed that it was a great pleasure getting to know them in this special day of their lives.

Delicious wine, yummy food and flowing conversation are three must-haves for any successful dinner party. But if you want to take your entertaining game to Hostess-with-the-Mostest status, (à la Abby Larson), an Insta-worthy tabletop is key. Walking into the launch event at Haven’s Kitchen was like walking into your happy place. Hi, fellow brides-to-be! It’s Ali from Love You, Mean It. I’m so excited to share our engagement photos with you today! Planning our e-sesh has been one of my favorite parts our engagement so far. We’ve used these beautiful images captured by Leslee Mitchell and Tarin Frantz on our wedding website and also printed a few for gifting to family. That said, it can also be stressful when deciding where to shoot and what to wear. So, I’ve put together a list of five tips to make the “what to wear” part a breeze.

1. Location

The first element to consider should be where you will be taking your photos. Will you be outside? What will the temperature be? Thinking through the locations will ensure you dress appropriately for the weather and will help inspire your outfits. If it will be chilly, you don’t want to be freezing the entire day. If you’re uncomfortable in your setting, you won’t be able to properly relax for the photos and be able to have fun. Will you be taking photos on a horse farm (like me!) or on grass? Don’t forget the appropriate footwear!

2. Number of Outfits

Once you have the location (or locations!) set with your photographer, it makes it easier to envision the appropriate outfits. Personally, I had two venues that I wanted different outfits for. I knew that I wanted to take more casual photos as well as dressier ones, and a few right in between. For me, it made sense to do the more casual photos when we were at home in Kentucky and take fancier ones in front of Perkins Chapel at SMU (just a few feet away from where we first met!). If you’re worried about coming off as “cheesy,” wear a typical Saturday outfit and it will make the photos look less staged and more real-life. On the other hand, I think it’s special to have photos that are a little more dressed-up to celebrate this exciting time. Ultimately, however, this is not the time to go completely out of your comfort zone when it comes to what you wear which leads me to my next point: deciding on the outfits!

3. Coordinate and Prepare Your Looks

It’s definitely necessary for both of you to think through and try-on your outfits before the day-of. You want to make sure you “match” each other when it comes to the level of dressiness. You also want to make sure you and your fiancé won’t clash and that everything is clean, pressed, and ready to go. If either of you have bought something new for the photos, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to receive the item and try it on so you can make any necessary alterations– you don’t want any surprises on the actual day! For our casual photos, I wore a solid color sweater and jeans and Ben wore a button down and jeans. Easy and comfortable! For the pictures we took in front of Perkins Chapel, I wore an ivory tulle skirt and embellished sweater from Jenny Yoo. My skirt felt bridal and super special. It’s actually from the same fabric that my bridesmaids dresses (also Jenny Yoo, of course!) will be made from which I thought was a special touch!

4. Test Your Wedding Hair/Make-up

If possible, engagement photos make a great occasion to test out your wedding hair and/or make-up. Luckily for me, I was able to meet with my wedding stylist when I was home in Kentucky for our photos. It allows you to get to know each other a little bit and, not to mention, your hair and make-up will be looking great in the photos! Because I wanted to look super natural, I asked for “my everyday look, just a little better!”

5. Be yourselves and have fun!

It’s a fact, staged photos can be AWKWARD. What you will wear should be the least of your worries! If you plan your outfits out ahead of time and feel good about them, it will be one less thing on your mind the day of the shoot. Also recommended: packing a cooler with snacks and champagne to celebrate as the day goes on!

From the Event Designer… Venice is a timeless city in Italy, surrounded by the intricate canals and small passages, where the way of life has managed to keep its charm throughout the ages. Being in the city during the winter allowed us to embrace the peacefulness around us. The understated beauty of Venice in winter was the spirit of our inspirational, captured by Lilly Red Creative.

Our bride started her journey in the award winning boutique hotel, Ca Maria Adele. The intimate Sala Noire room served as the backdrop with its rich textures and luxurious details. The light gently entered the room through the silk window coverings. Winter attire was accomplished with a soft laced, wool pullover coupled with a playful tulle gown, provided by. A handmade Venetian fur shawl, provided by Sartoria dei Dogi, added additional depth to the dress. Blue and burgundy provided deep, rich colors from which we could base our palette. The bouquet and floral crown, by Fioreria San Rocco Eventi, gave us the contrast and pop against the warmth of the attire. The groom was dressed in deep colors of blue and burgundy, the suit by Salvatore Ferragamo.

The couple’s first look took place on a small landing, only accessible by wooden bridge. They indulged in a warm hug, enjoying the joy of a sunny winter day. We took a stroll through the little streets around undiscovered corners and we found ourselves at a water taxi station (“ vaporetto”), where the sun shone and illuminated our beautiful bride while she was covering herself with her winter shawl. The table was set on an intimate little dock, overlooking the Grand Canal. A deep blue, velvet cloth complimented the ocean waters and our color selection. The blue was enriched by tone of the dark, red flowers and fruits. The patterns on the dishware and glasses provided a layer of detail and complexity to our setting. The blue velvet cake was the perfect way to end our session, surrounded by velvet tablecloth and roses, creating a frame for our sweet ending.

From Brooke Beasley Photography… This wedding featured gorgeous an all-white bridal party and classic black for the guys. The beautiful couple was married at a little church in Carmel and the reception was held at the members only MPCC. All of the details were white, crystal and gold.
