Venice Boudoir + Anniversary Shoot

Nearly a year ago, we fell in love with this beautiful couple and their California soiree full of rustic elegance. And today, we get to fall in love all over again with their sexy, yet sweet and oh-so-elegantly captured images from Matthew Ree of their first year anniversary sesh in Venice. I’m not even married yet and I’m already planning our year one festivities—one peek at these snaps and you’ll see why.

From the Mrs…We decided to celebrate our first wedding anniversary with a trip to Italy—a country that neither one of us had ever been to but always wanted to visit. We planned on starting out in Rome, then taking the train north to Florence, and ending up in Venice. While planning our trip, I browsed online through various photo galleries—first of sites to visit, and then somehow ended up perusing SMP’s engagement and styled shoots in Italy. We decided that having pictures as a souvenir/keepsake would be such a wonderful anniversary gift to ourselves. On our last trip abroad, there weren’t very many photos of us, as I held the camera most of the time and snapped away. This time, I was determined to have photos to share and to keep as memories. And so, my search for a photographer began. I went through each and every single one of SMP’s features in Italy and SMP’s Little Black Book, researched each photographer, and contacted many of them. It was like wedding planning all over again! At the end of this crazy search, Matthew Ree seemed to be the best fit for us—I loved his photography, and his personality (over our email exchanges) really attracted me. We started discussing outfits, settings, style, and what I envisioned for the perfect shoot. I was psyched that I’d get to wear my Tadashi dress; I didn’t get a chance to wear it on my wedding day, since I loved my actual wedding gown so much and kept it on all night. See it here! The next task was to select whether to shoot in Florence or Venice, which was a difficult decision as we had never been to either place. We ended up choosing Venice, since we thought that the scenery would be so unique.

It was raining from the moment we got off the train in Venice, so much so that San Marco Square (and many other places) were flooded for part of the morning, with mostly grey skies, when the rain would temporarily stop. This put a bit of a damper on our plan for taking pictures. Our photographer, Matthew, was so nice and flexible; we started out with a boudoir shoot on the first day—which was actually lots of fun!—and broke out the second day with more “formal” pictures in the morning, and casual ones in the afternoon. One of the silliest parts of the day was when we were taking photos in San Marco Square, all dressed up. There were so many random people (tourists) who came closer up and started taking pictures of us and congratulated us! They probably thought that we had just gotten married!

Florence and Venice are two of the most romantic cities I’ve ever visited. The architecture is truly mesmerizing and out of this world! There are so many different places, lovely bridges to cross, and tiny streets to get lost in. Each turn revealed another beautiful building façade with new window shapes or soft colors, all against the bluish green canal. It looked like a made up movie set, or like it came straight out of a painting. Unfortunately, with shortened daylight time and weather constraints, we couldn’t possibly capture all of Venice’s beauty. However, we are so happy with how the pictures turned out. The color palette and backdrop are simply gorgeous. And I bet that no one can tell that we were actually shivering in the freezing December cold!! Our only regret is that we didn’t have Matthew follow us along throughout Italy to document all of our fun moments in Rome and Florence! One of my favorite pictures is the one of us on one of those little bridges, with the picturesque and serene reflection over the water. This really was a magical experience that was dreamily and beautifully captured through Matthew’s lens.

Pink Clos LaChance Winery Wedding

Coco Tran has a serious way with the camera, so when you set her amongst a stunning vineyard wedding with pretty Apis Florals blooms a’plenty? She’ll deliver – BIG time. It’s a day infused with modern design and pop-worthy color, with subtle nautical details woven in for good measure. Scroll below for a first glimpse at the pretty, and don’t miss the gallery all waiting right here.

From The Bride…We met in our teaching credential program. We quickly became friends and started hanging out together outside of school. We were at Lake Tahoe with his friends for his birthday in November. On our drive back home Ramil decided to stop by one more lake. We took a hike next to Echo Lake and Ramil and proposed to me.

We want to remember our wedding day as a celebration of two people starting a new adventure in life together. We want to remember our closest friends and families celebrating and wishing us well. Our wedding day consisted of many DIY elements that I have created… our colors were gray, shades of pink, gold – a romantic nautical theme. I chose a nautical theme because we both love to be outdoors, especially by the water, and before I had met Ramil, I always knew I was going to marry a fisherman…Ramil happens to love fishing! Coco captured our day so beautifully I couldn’t be more happy.

Whimsical + Romantic Wente Vineyards Wedding

This, my friends, is a photo of one very happy couple. Amid all the hustle and bustle of their wedding day, their joy and love for one another is far from lost and this is exactly why I’ll never grow sick of looking through wedding photos on a daily basis. Onelove Photography and Motionscope captured that excitement and thanks to them, I’m catching some of those much needed good vibes on this dreary day.

From The Bride… Our vision for the big day was for it to be fun, heartfelt, whimsy and most importantly for all of our guests to be relaxed and enjoy themselves thoroughly! Wente Vineyards provided the perfect wedding backdrop due to its lush, beautiful yet intimate grounds and of course, the award winning wines and food. It was perfect for vinos and foodies like us! Khoa and I love to travel and explore destinations together, it was always a priority for us as we were a long distance couple for the first several years of dating and the only time we were able to reconnect and spend quality couple time was our trips. We decided to go with vintage travel themed elements for the day in my favorite colors, mint blue, gold and blush. All the planning and late night DIY sessions really paid off during the big day. My crafty dad handmade the marquee J&K sign that was the primary focal point for our sweetheart table. My army of bridesmaids, powered by pizza and wine mostly, helped me snip, cut and trim the travel tag escort cards and hand-letter all the chalkboard signage for the ceremony. I picked up calligraphy and hand wrote the table names which were named after our favorite locations we visited together (all aside from Endor, which is a fictional planet from Star Wars – Khoa’s a bit of a fanboy). We also decided to DIY the floral table centerpieces and diligently scoured the SF Flower Mart days before the wedding for stock up on roses, hydrangeas and greens, which ended up saving us a good chunk of money (much appreciated for a bride on a budget).

It was very important for my family to have a traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony on our wedding day. Traditionally, the groom and bride kneel before their elders and pour tea as an offering as a sign of respect, in turn the elders exchange red envelopes called “hung bao” with money or jade jewelry for the Bride stuffed inside. I was hesitant at first to do the ceremony due to limited time constraints but it turned out to be one of the most sentimental parts of the day. I actually cried the most during this time and was so afraid to ruin the painstaking efforts of my MUA before the western ceremony! My mother bought me a beautiful, custom fitted silk “qi pao” in a traditional, auspicious red color to wear. My parents, grandparents and my ancestors before them have all taken part in the tea ceremony on their wedding days and it felt so good and humbling to honor them and keep the tradition alive.

Our first dance was to “Lucky” by Jason Mraz & Colbie Caillat, which had a lot of meaning for us since our first concert together was to see Jason Mraz perform! We had his groomsman play guitar while my bridesmaid sang. It was an amazing moment swaying together and surrounded by our biggest supporters! We both love music and we are big Beatles fans, so it was a no brainer that our string quartet play music from the Beatles (I walked down the aisle with my dad to “Here Comes the Sun”, the bridal processional was to “All You Need is Love”) and our cake topper followed suite with that theme. Khoa even surprised me with a slow and heartfelt performance of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You” by Frankie Valli, complete with his groomsmen dancing and crooning back up! I was in tears and laughing at the same time! It’s really true what other brides say, the day zooms by so fast before even having time to enjoy your dinner, drinks and guests. By the end of it, our hearts were brimming with so much love, laughter and felt the fullest we’ve ever had. It was truly the best day of our lives and an unforgettable kick-off soiree to the spending the rest of our lives together as husband and wife!

Snowy Red Rocks Winter Engagement Session

A beautiful blanket of snow, a gorgeous bouquet of winter greens, and a couple so sweet it’ll make you blush, this e-sesh is what winter daydreams are made of. A sunshine filled afternoon sharing cozy kisses amongst rocky landscape, this darling duo brought along Ashley Sawtelle behind the lens to snap up every snowflake scene right here!

From Ashley Sawtelle… Denver residents, Danica & Cyrus got engaged in the fall and are getting married in the sweet mountain town of Ouray in Western Colorado in June. For their engagement session the couple wanted to stay local and in the beautiful foothills west of Denver at Red Rocks.

The couple dressed up jeans with black and white and Cyrus gave his Bride to be a gorgeous bouquet of winter greens and soft pinks. Even though it was snowing the day before, the sun came out for the shoot providing warmer temperatures and a beautiful blanket of snow covering the red rock landscape. It was a perfect day for the two!

Rustic Chic Farm Pasture Wedding

Little known fact? Cowgirl boots and ballgowns are the quickest way to my country loving heart. Rollicking yet refined, from the DesignII blooms, to peach jam favors, and the clothesline of photos, every aspect of this pasture affair is effortlessly elegant. Korie Lynn snapped up a gallery that is a mixture of familiarity and romanticism, and you can see it all here!

From the beautiful Bride… The groom and I have always been inspired by community, heritage, and travel. When we began to plan our wedding, we considered first, the German and Czech Biergartens that we grew up with in Texas and second, the semester that we studied together in Paris. We ultimately decided on a celebration that was both rowdy and refined—a mixture of familiarity and romanticism, of country and city, of landscape and architecture.

A beer garden is a sort of communal free-for-all, and we wanted to maintain that spirit of sharing at our reception with long farm tables and a local family-style meal. Meanwhile, we equipped the tabletops with vintage champagne coupes and loosely-arranged flowers to give the setting a little edge of effortless French elegance. We also tried to incorporate details from our daily life, like color-coordinated Trivial Pursuit cards reminiscent of those at Henri’s, our favorite French restaurant in Austin, and strands of yellow-tinged globe lights lining the peaks of our pole tent.

We completed countless DIY projects leading up to the wedding, including our stationery and guestbook, our peach jam favors, and our clothesline of photos. Our parents scoured thrift stores for champagne coupes, mismatched vases, and wicker breadbaskets. The groom’s mother even freehanded our menu chalkboards!

For the venue we chose a family farm just west of Brenham, Texas—a small town located halfway between Austin and Houston, where the groom and I grew up, respectively. October is usually the most beautiful month in The Lonestar State, but the morning of our wedding it rained… and rained… and rained. We were beyond relieved when the clouds decided to pull it together just an hour before our first look.

Our ceremony was entirely otherworldly. It was surreal to see his family, my family, and all of our closest friends—some of them from thousands of miles away—all under the same grove of trees. Our photographer perfectly captured the giddiness and whimsy of the day.

Most importantly, we wanted our guests to feel comfortable and relaxed. Our band played a mixture of country, Cajun, Zydeco, and rock n roll that kept everyone grooving all night. Around ten in the evening, some of our distant neighbors overheard the music and came over to join the dance party! We could not have asked for a more welcoming celebration of love and marriage.

Rustic South Dakota State Park Wedding

From The Bride… Ken and I met through mutual friends at a board game bar in Chicago. At first I was skeptical of his love for the game “Ticket to Ride” and he was bemused that I couldn’t remember the order of the planets costing us a trivia question. However, we decided to go on a second date and the rest was history! Fast forward three years, despite living in Chicago, we decided to get married in my home state of South Dakota, at Custer State Park located in the beautiful Black Hills National Forest. It is a place that my family spent many summer vacations and a great tourist destination for all of our family and friends traveling near and far! Ken’s family from New England arranged multiple tours to check out the various sites of the Black Hills and many of our guests took time to enjoy the beauty and history of the area. We wanted our wedding to reflect our love and friendship, hoping the weekend would serve as a fun memory for all of our friends and family who have supported us throughout the years.

I love rustic décor with a touch of glamour and wanted to stay true to the beauty of Custer State Park. Generous friends and family members gave us deer antlers, pheasant feathers and old barn wood to incorporate into the décor. As I was studying for my Nurse Practitioner boards my mom stepped in and completed the projects I had intended to work on! She spray painted antlers gold, hand painted and glittered our beautiful monogram to hang above the fireplace, assembled custom labels onto water bottles, created a wedding activity book for our youngest guests and completed countless other DIY projects that contributed to the thoughtful décor our wedding had. Many friends and family members pitched in to help us with wedding projects and the talent and generosity of our loved ones blew us away! My dad built the entrance sign and smores troughs out of old barn wood which were used at our rehearsal dinner and wedding after party, my friend Andrea Stalheim created all of our beautiful paper products and hand painted our cornhole boards, Ken’s mother sewed bean bags for the cornhole games with our initials on them, my sister and cousin hand stenciled wood signs and Ken’s aunt painted our entrance and chair signs. Ken and I gathered wedding photos of our parents and grandparents to display and remind us of how many incredible relationships inspire us. Custer State Park is known for the large buffalo herd that can be seen roaming the park and sometimes blocking traffic! Nearly 1,300 buffalo roam the 71,000-acre state park in addition to other wildlife like antelope, mountain goats, deer, and elk. We incorporated buffalo and deer antlers into many of our paper designs and decided to attach buffalo cookie cutters to our escort cards so they wouldn’t blow away!

Ken and I spent a few late nights hand stamping and embossing over 200 place cards! I didn’t meet our vendors in person until the week of our wedding, so most of the communication took place via email or Skype and yet Jenny’s Floral and Table 4 Décor beautifully executed and enhanced our vision for the space. I wanted the space to match the beauty of the nature that surrounded us. Jenny Behlings’ floral arrangements surpassed all expectation, they were incredibly unique and she blended the pheasant feathers and antlers seamlessly into the design. Jenny Jewett of Table 4 Décor created such a magical space, we loved the curly willow chandeliers with gorgeous lights and fabric draping from the rafters! The reception looked even more beautiful than we could’ve imagined and both vendors were fantastic to work with.

I have so many wonderful memories from the day, but I will never forget the look on Ken’s face as I walked down the aisle. We chose not to see each other before the ceremony and it was the best decision we could’ve made. It was such an intense moment that I couldn’t help but both laugh and cry as I walked down the aisle! I’ve never experienced such joy!

Jeff Sampson Photography beautifully captured moments throughout the day and we will cherish our photos for years to come. I didn’t have a wedding planner and Jeff and Val Sampson were not only wonderful to work with, but extremely helpful in planning the timeline of the day and I am so grateful for their guidance through this process! We gave great thought to our music and scripture readings that we chose which made the ceremony incredibly meaningful to us. Ken and I were engaged at Phantom of the Opera in NYC, so the bridesmaids processed into piano accompaniment of Music of the Night. Our priest and dear family friend travelled across the state to marry us, which added such warmth and personality to our ceremony. The reception was a blast, with some of the most heartfelt and funny wedding toasts that I have ever heard. 2 Sister’s Bakery made a beautiful cake and delicious cupcakes that were gone so quickly that Ken and I didn’t even get one! Besides the warm glow coming from the Pavilion, the night sky was dark and cloudy making for a magical setting for such a fun night! We had so much fun with our guests and the dance floor was packed the entire night thanks to JD Productions! We didn’t want the night to end, so we had an after party complete with a DIY smores bar that we enjoyed with many of our guests including a few elk who wandered into the field beside the cabin! I would say my dad put it best in his speech when quoting from my favorite musical Les Miserables, “to love another person is to see the face of God.” To be able to commit our lives and hearts to each other in front of so many people we love was a great blessing and our hearts overflow with gratitude for such an incredible celebration of love!

Elegant Summer Chateau Wedding

These Amsale bridesmaid dresses might be my favorites ever, and trust me, I’ve seen my fair share. Their gorgeous color and flowing fabric works perfectly for this elegant chateau wedding orchestrated by Lynn Lee Fine Weddings & Events. Add in the beautiful bouquets and these maids were lucky ladies. Anne-Marie Bouchard captured it all and I’m left wishing I could wear this look at every future affair.

From Lynn Lee Fine Weddings & Events… Genevieve & Erik were very clear on their priorities for their wedding day from the very start. They wanted to create a fun, relaxed weekend for their family and friends, many of whom had not met prior and numerous travelling some distance in order to attend the nuptials.

The design for the day was created by Lynn Lee Fine Weddings & Events with Genevieve and Erik and their fabulous classic, good taste serving as inspiration. A family friend’s large brass collection became the unifying element around which the other details were developed. The grandeur of the Fairmont Chateau Laurier was the perfect backdrop for this elegant affair and guests enjoyed the many amenities available within that property.

Genevieve and her bridesmaids readied at Genevieve’s family’s home in the city while Erik and his groomsmen dressed at the hotel. Prior to departing for the ceremony, the groomsmen were presented with personalized German beer steins, a wonderful nod to Erik’s family’s German heritage.

The mid-afternoon ceremony at St. Theresa Catholic Church went off without a hitch and Genevieve looked stunning in her Monique L’huillier gown and the bridemaids in their Amsale dresses in a beautiful soft blush tone. Genevieve and Erik were whisked away for a few private moments, followed by formal photos in the same vintage Ford in which Genevieve and her father arrived an hour earlier.

After the ceremony, guests assembled in the Drawing Room foyer at the Chateau Laurier where they enjoyed a cocktail and delicious appetizers to wet their appetite for dinner. Upon entering the Adam Room for dinner, Genevieve and Erik greeted their guests through a receiving line. This was an important element of the day for the married couple since chatting with each guest, individually, was a priority.

In the ballroom, guests were seated at long tables lit by dozens of candlesticks set in brass holders of various, lovely designs. Lynn Lee, Genevieve and Erik very much wanted to create the warmth and feel of a large family dinner where conversation and wine flowed freely and this was certainly achieved. Dinner began with a welcoming toast by the father of the bride with subsequent speeches to follow as guests enjoyed their custom five-course meal that included a filet mignon main course and mousse dessert featuring Quebec maple syrup.

After dinner, Genevieve and Erik cut the beautiful cake created by Catherine’s Cakery which was the central focus of a styled dessert table atop an antique sideboard rented from Any & Jen Decor. Genevieve and Erik wowed guests with their first dance which had been developed through dance lessons that the couple enjoyed leading up to their wedding day. MDRN Photobooth offered a secondary fun activity for guests during the dance. During the latter part of the evening, late night snacks were served which included a smoked meat sandwich carving station, Erik’s special request for the reception.

From the Bride… Kie and I met only once in college during our sophomore year at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Our paths did not cross again until after graduation in 2008, when Kie coincidentally started working at Tolosa Winery, where I had been working and pouring wine in the tasting room. The time working together really cemented our friendship which turned romantic pretty quickly when, as Kie likes to say, “we both came on the open market.” Kie and I continued working at Tolosa, while secretly dating, and after the harvest in 2009 he was offered the position to begin selling Tolosa wine in Southern California. We both decided we were not willing to start a long-distance relationship, so I moved down four short months later.

While we were dating, Kie took me on our first big trip together to visit his family’s ranch outside of Livingston, Montana in a place called Paradise Valley. From the very moment I stepped foot onto this majestic property, I imagined us saying our vows under the old cottonwood tree on the ranch. We weren’t engaged yet (not even close!), but when Kie did propose a few years later, I told him my dream of having our wedding there, and of course he was on board. Our plans were interrupted when a tragic forest fire claimed thousands of acres in Paradise Valley, including a majority of his family’s beautiful ranch and barn. I did not think any other venue could compare to this magical place, so it was quite a struggle to find another wedding site that we were happy with. We started in Northern California (where I was born), looking into my grandma’s property in Los Gatos, then to Saratoga and at one point got so frustrated we thought about having our wedding in Hawaii with just our close families.

Once the search returned to our roots on the Central Coast, I recalled a story from my Aunt Cathy where she attended the most beautiful wedding at one of Firestone Vineyard’s properties, and she had told my mom that I one day needed to get married at this spectacular vineyard (I was only 12 years old at the time!). Remembering this, Kie and I decided to spend a weekend visiting different properties from Paso Robles to Santa Barbara. We ended our day with a tour of Firestone Vineyard in Los Olivos. The feeling of “this is it” hit us immediately. Shortly after, we booked our wedding date, picking the weekend of the full moon in August, and the wedding planning began!

The design and aesthetic of our wedding was ever-evolving throughout the planning process. My wedding designer and planner, Heather Ferrai of All-Set, who also happened to be one of my best friends from college as well as a bridesmaid, helped me transform our wedding from rustic vintage chic to romantic whimsical glam. Our fairytale began when my father and I pulled into the ceremony site in a 1933 Studebaker as the sweet sound of Ella Fitzgerald serenaded us down the aisle. With a crystal chandelier hanging from the oak tree and surrounded by vineyards, my Uncle Kent performed our ceremony and we said those famous words to make it official. The reception was held in a breathtaking courtyard set against an ivy-filled wall, with speeches, dancing and delicious Central Coast fare. The tables were dripping in a champagne satin linen, custom calligraphy table numbers and menus, along with mercury glass votives. I chose flowers in shades of pink, white and cream with garden fresh greens. The focal point of the reception was our elegant three-tiered buttercream ivory cake atop a nude sequin table linen – a truly enchanting evening.

It was so wonderful to have the support and help from our parents, my sister and bridesmaids, as well as one of my best friends who, along with our incredible vendors, transformed our dreams to reality.

My heart just bursts reflecting back on this day. It was unreal. Of course, knowing I married the man of my dreams makes it that much better!

Fact: Lane Dittoe is a genius. And when he teams up with the crazy talented Crosby + Jon at Rosewood Mayakoba? Consider the results perfection in paradise. Starting with the ethereal saltwater hued gown, to the oceanfront accented with Krista Jon blooms, every detail in the gallery will have you dreaming for days, and you can join me in doing so right here.

From Archive Rentals… Real Couple Nicolas & Melina chose Riviera Maya for their this shoot since this was the place they had met two years earlier on vacation. Nestled along the white sandy beaches of beautiful Mexico, and only a short flight from anywhere in the States, lies the Riviera Maya, encompassing three popular destination honeymoon spots: Cancun, Tulum, and Playa del Carmen. With warm weather year round, turquoise oceans, beautiful resorts, it’s no wonder couples are choosing to marry in this Caribbean destination.

From Crosby + JonThere’s something so romantic about a ceremony on the sand with just a bride & groom, and these photos prove it.

We were inspired by the romantic elements of the Riviera Maya. The Carribean Sea, the soft white sand, the vividly colored flowers speckled amongst the lush, green rainforest. We wanted to evoke the relaxed, yet refined atmosphere of the Rosewood Mayakoba in her dress, hair, makeup & floral design. The groom looks casually cool, yet sophisticated, amongst the cool architecture of the Rosewood Mayakoba.

Rosewood Mayakoba was our first choice because it is truly the definition of paradise. It is one of our favorite places to work because the property is romantic, secluded and stunningly beautiful from every angle. But more importantly, the wedding team at Rosewood is beyond exceptional. They treat guests with such care and attention, everyone feels like a VIP.

And what a romantic day it was! Nicholas and Melina couldn’t keep their hands off each other… smooching and holding hands between shots. Lane Dittoe photographed the day and captured their love for each other in a natural, breathtaking way.

Our designs for the day were inspired by the bright, sunny hues of Mexico, using shades of blue, orange, mango, turquoise, yellow and pearl. We found local florals, which were artfully crafted on-site by Krista Jon and her team. For decor we turned to Archive Mexico for a beautiful collection of rustic wood furniture combined with brightly colored plates, linens, & accessories.

The real showstopper, however, is that blue-hued dress! R-Mine blew us and Melina away with the pastel sky blue ceremony gown that so perfectly evoked the serene vibe of the Caribbean sea. In the end, the couple be more pleased with this day and their photos. Everything was perfect. The dress, the couple, the Caribbean… All were absolute magic!

Vintage Chic New Orleans Wedding at Race & Religious

I am aching to visit New Orleans and this wedding right here (and this stylish bride) captures why I’m so obsessed. Moody and romantic, rich in history and always ready to party, this wedding, like its host city, is full of personality. Anne-Claire Brun‘s photos are spilling over with this eclectic energy and until I’m able to escape to the Big Easy for a weekend, her pics are where I shall remain.

From Anne-Claire Brun… First, did you know that when you get married in New Orleans, they have this thing called “Second Line” at the end of it? It consists in having your entire wedding party and a band (a brass band) going out of the venue and around the block (so it’s basically a parade.) The bride and groom twirl an umbrella and a handkerchief in the air… And all the guests dancing and laughing while people walking by wave and congratulate the bride and groom…

The venue Race and Religious was incredible, so much character! And the girls (Brooke especially) from Southern Charm Weddings in Louisiana did a wonderful job.

I’m in love with the soft palette of colors for this wedding!

From the Bride… Nick and I met through mutual friends in the summer of 2002. I was 15 and had just finished my freshman year of high school and Nick had had just turned 18 and just graduated high school. We became friends and then started dating, although neither of our parents were thrilled at the time given the age difference. Little did we know then, that we would one day be engaged and getting married. We went our separate ways for a while in our early 20s, but always stayed in contact with one another and eventually moved in together in 2011.

One day, we were in California visiting my little brother who was doing an internship in LA. We decided to take a road trip up the coast along Route 1 to San Francisco and Napa Valley with a stop in Big Sur. We got to Big Sur just before sunset and Nick pulled to one of the viewpoints on the side of the road so that we could watch the sunset among the cliff. We could hear seals barking down below and the surroundings were just breathtakingly beautiful. I started to complain about it getting cold and wanting to head to our hotel for the night…that’s when Nick asked me to marry him (a few minutes earlier than planned, due to my whining…which I do regret now)!

For the planning process, we were lucky we had a great wedding coordinator, Brooke Casey of Southern Charm Weddings Louisiana, to help us. She made the planning process seem as seamless as possible. She also kept us on track with a timeline and reminded us of things we didn’t even think of that are in fact integral parts of the wedding planning process.

We had a destination wedding which we thought would make things easier, but wedding planning is never really easy as we now know. The fact that we did have a smaller list of attending guests did make some of the wedding planning tasks easier than if we had done a bigger ceremony and reception.

We went with a romantic, vintage New Orleans traditional theme. We really took the vibes of our venue, Race and Religious, as our inspiration. There is so much character to the venue that we decided it was best to let our wedding take cues from the venue’s eclectic charm rather than the other way around. I couldn’t have imagined a better backdrop for our day.

There were so many of my favorite moments that day it’s hard to say which one was best….

Having all my best girlfriends by my side keeping me from being a nervous wreck while getting ready was one… When Nick first saw me when I met him down the aisle… When we snuck away to a corner for private moment to just enjoy each other and eat some food… The father-daughter dance with my dad when he told me the emotional meaning for him behind the song we had picked , “In My Life” by The Beatles… Seeing all my closest friends and family having as amazing a night as we were, and last but not least, the Second Line band!

My advice for couples would be don’t stress the small stuff. Things will go wrong, they always do, but those are the things you won’t even remember the day of or they will be the things that make for a great story later on.

Also, don’t let anyone’s opinions or input influence what you want for your day. Always stick to your guns and initial ideas. At the end of the day, it should be you and your bride and groom’s personalities that shine through, no one else’s. And most importantly, at the reception, don’t forget to eat!

Between her booming blog and her two adorable kiddo’s, The Fashionable Hostess certainly has a lot on her plate. To get her motivated for all of the work she plans to be doing, she wanted to give her desk a makeover. One, so that it looks and feels more like her and her brand, and two, because she is oh so inspired when she has pretty things to look at. Aren’t we all?

After checking out how amazing her workspace looks now, take a peek at how far she’s come!

Whimsical Summer Camp Forest Wedding

Loved ones gathered at Windsor Mountain for a weekend filled with waterfront adventures and a laid back spirited affair. From hand-dyed napkins, to heirloom antlers, to the hand painted invitations, to Wild Folk Studio blooms crafted by the Bride herself, every aspect was rustic chic perfection. Complete with laughter filled vows and a sweet walk down the aisle, Cambria Grace captured every moment here!

From the beautiful Bride… Mark and I wanted our magical forest wedding to be a celebration of the community we created together, our friends and families, not just us. The idea was to have a place where everyone could stay for the entire weekend, have adventures, campfires, and get to know each other. Since we spend a lot of time in New Hampshire camping and hiking, we also got engaged in the White Mountains, a summer camp was the perfect fit. We were going for a laid back, non-traditional, but spirited vibe; a weekend that genuinely reflected us, and that’s exactly what we achieved.

Every aspect of our wedding was created, designed and built by us or our friends and family. Since I am a floral designer in Boston, I decided to do all of my own wedding flowers, with the help of some good souls that were willing to get a bit dirty. I transformed the reception area from a camp dining hall to a magical forest wedding with wild, nature inspired floral arrangements in wood bowls, hundreds of feet of garland draped from the ceiling, and warmed up the space with locally made tapered candles in vintage brass candlesticks. I wanted the napkins to look worn and be different shades of blue. The only way to achieve this look without breaking the budget was to hand-dye the napkins. The finishing touch on the tables were antlers that belonged to Mark’s grandfather.

Many of our loved ones contributed to making our wedding weekend exceptional, from my sister-in-law Megan hand painting our wedding invitations, to our friend Jon marrying us, to our friend Brooke waking up before the sun to help me with florals. And that’s just to name a couple. It was truly a collaboration.

We lucked out with the most beautiful 80 degree fall weekend, while the leaves were in full color. All of our guests were able to take advantage of the waterfront. We swam, kayaked, and canoed.

One detail that was really important to me was to walk down the aisle by myself. My older brother, Alex, passed away when I was in college, and I always envisioned him walking me down. It was my way of honoring him. I was incredibly nervous to walk alone, but I knew he was there with me. Mark met me towards the end of the aisle and walked me the rest of the way.

I remember our ceremony being full of laughter.. Mark made a joke during his vows even though everyone advised him not to. It was hilarious, and perfectly reflects who we are as a couple.

After our wedding reception we had our friend Brendan’s band play a late night show in the camp dance hall. Little did I know Mark had a surprise for me. He jumped on stage and sang with the band “I Love You Always Forever” by Donna Lewis. I wasn’t sure if I should laugh or cry. I did a little of both. It was with-out- a-doubt the most romantic act he has ever done. It was brilliant, and I’m so happy it was caught on tape.

Our absolutely favorite moment for the both of us was watching our worlds collide, and everyone having such a good time. It was a very surreal experience.

Dominican Republic Post-Wedding Beach Bonfire

How do you top off a destination wedding extravaganza from rehearsal dinner to ceremony to oceanside reception? A festive beach bonfire – that’s how. As a farewell for guests who traveled far and wide to celebrate, Michelle and Geoff along with Stefanie Miles planned a casual gathering on the sand complete with local cuisine, pretty Bows and Arrows blooms and fire dancers. See it all from the lens of Ryan Ray.

From Stefanie Miles… Many guests stayed at Flor De Cabrera during their time in Cabrera, and so we continued the celebration under the low palms on the secluded Flor De Cabrera beach the day after the wedding. In keeping with our goal of providing quality, memorable experiences for each of our 35 guests, this traditional Dominican fare dinner was made extra special with beautiful tables and florals set up under an intimate canopy of trees and strung lights, lounge areas that were laid out in the sand, fire dancers, and a sweet musical trio.

From The Bride…The day after our wedding we hosted a beach bonfire dinner that really was the perfect gesture of hospitality to end our destination wedding. It was wonderful to gather together to share a meal, exchange stories, and say our goodbyes. The entire weekend had been a series of unexpected, beautifully executed surprises from our team of vendors and this dinner was no exception. It left me feeling so content knowing that Geoff and I had successfully been able to use our wedding as an opportunity to serve, honor, and thank our guests for their love and support throughout our journeys to finding each other.

Rustic Farm-to-Table Napa Valley Wedding

If you’re looking for the quintessential California wedding, look no further. This Napa Valley celebration hits every note, from epic farm-to-table feast to romantic winery views. Onelove Photography captured every inch of this summer soiree and I predict these pics becoming the new go-to source for all those seeking some rustic west coast wedding inspiration.

From One Love Photography… This couple loves Calfornia for it’s culture: live folk music, wine and fresh produce, and wanted to showcase this at their wedding. It was all about the food! Guests were greeted with Spiked Strawberry Lemonade. Signature drinks were Greyhounds and Cucumber Collins, along with a Fine Scotch Bar.

From The Bride… Wine country is really special to us as a couple, so we didn’t want to do anything too flashy to overshadow the beauty and simplicity of that region. We picked all local wines and beers, and the food was farm-to-table. We are city and country so there was an elegance to a lot of the elements in the wedding while keeping the overall vibe down to earth. Adding the live Bluegrass band and having our first dance be a George Strait song while dancing in the dirt in Jimmy Choo’s and eating fresh oysters is a perfect example of how we tried to compliment various sides of our personalities and who we are as a couple.

Our venue had a balcony that overlooked our cocktail area and after the ceremony we headed up there to do a quick toast. First we spent about 10 minutes alone relishing what had just happened. Once we stepped on to the balcony it was so fun and touching to look out over all of the people we love most in the world.

Also our first dance is absolutely burned into memory, every second of it was delicious to just be completely wrapped up in each other and the moment.

Upstate New York Al Fresco Engagement Session

One bit from this couple’s sweet writeup really stuck with me: “Making each other laugh, pushing each other to be better and remembering to enjoy every moment together is a big part of our daily job.” Every inch of that statement is what a relationship and marriage should encompass, and it’s absolutely radiates from this duo’s gallery of gorgeous from Judy Pak.

From The Couple…Brought together by the love of family, food and travel we have spent the last 5 years discovering the world together. In search of adventure, we packed our things and made the 3,000 mile journey from Seattle to our new home in the Big Apple. In New York, while struggling to establish ourselves, we fell in love all over again. Making each other laugh, pushing each other to be better and remembering to enjoy every moment together is a big part of our daily job. In the spring of 2014 we were engaged in Central Park with our family and friends there to celebrate with us. We will be married at the Metropolitan Building in Long Island City on September 13th. We are so excited to spend our lives with each other. Together, everyday is a new adventure.

Dominican Republic Destination Wedding Part II

Destination weddings are no easy feat, but with Stefanie Miles by their side, Michelle and Geoff manged to treat themselves (and all 35 guests!) to the day of a lifetime. From the oceanside ceremony to an al fresco reception, they made certain their intimate day was chock-full of beauty and Ryan Ray captured every last bit. See it all right here, and set aside three minutes for a look at the entire stunning event documented by Candlelight Films.

From The Bride… For the planning of our wedding, Geoff and I handed over most of the decision making power to Stefanie Miles. I spent a lot of time with her describing how my love with Geoff made me feel, and asked her to translate that into a vision for our celebration and creating an unforgettable experience for our 35 guests. By not getting too caught up in the details of planning a wedding, we were mentally and emotionally available to focus on creating memories with each other and with our guests. When the day finally arrived, Geoff and I were able to fully live and savor each moment and detail for the first time along with our friends and family. With each surprise, I was continuously overwhelmed with peace, elation, and gratitude. The best way I can describe the experience is that I was living in a dream. Everything was indescribably beautiful, yet also felt incredibly genuine. I knew that each detail had been inspired by our love for each other and our love for our guests.

Casa Kimball was an already stunning property with its impressive architecture and boundless views of the ocean, but our vendors added the perfect elements that elevated the magical atmosphere. There were really too many perfect moments for me to put into words and it brings tears to my eyes even thinking about them to this day. I have never been the type of person who expected my wedding day to be my “best day ever”. There were so many joyful moments with my husband where I had experienced more happiness than I thought was possible, and I did not think that a single day could take claim to being the happiest of them all. But sure enough, by the end of the experience I knew for certain that it had been the best day of my life.

One of the most unexpected joys of having a destination wedding was the love, support, and friendship that I experienced from our dream team of vendors. Our intimate wedding was all about love and people, and it was incredibly special for me to have our wedding vendors be a part of that. They were able to spend time with us and our guests and their presence was a wonderful addition. When you take the time to get to know and care about the people to whom you are entrusting many important aspects of your wedding, you gain the special experience of knowing that all of their hard work was inspired because they care about you in return. Each of our vendors served and supported us far beyond the scope of their services, and there will forever be a special place for them in my heart.

Modern French-Inspired Nursery

When your mom is as stylish as Lexi of Glitter, Inc., it’s a given that your nursery is going to be one of the most impeccably styled spots in town. And from the first bonjour captured by Diana Zapata, to the tutu-filled dressing rack. this french-inspired nursery of baby Scarlett is a little girl’s (and a big girl’s) dream. See the full nursery tour in all its black, gold and blush glory right here.

We couldn’t believe how lucky we were when we found out we were having a baby. Decorating our little girl’s room was just the icing on the cake.

I knew from the start that I wanted something neutral, soft, and dreamy, with pops of black, gold, and subtle hints of very pale pink. I tried to be wary of keeping the design from getting too black (because goodness knows if I could paint the world in black, I would … or at the very least, throw a black leather jacket on everyone.) And black was a non-negotiable when I discovered the black-spotted crib sheets and the black and gold clothing rack. Keeping the room light and fun was a must, because a little girl was going to live in and love that room. The more modern white crib, dresser, and bookcase lent itself to a more playful space. I also always wanted the room to have a notable French vibe, something very Parisian and chic, with vintage touches. That was all mommy. I knew that travel and great vintage-inspired pieces had to find their way into the mix, and I figured roses would be the feminine flower touch of choice. The real trick was fitting everything into the very tiny former “office” without it feeling too overcrowded.

Today, Scarlett’s nursery is ever a work in progress. We’re always adding fun and quirky touches, and as she gets older, it’s toy central. We’re loving every second of it.
