Marble, Linens, and Ceramics: A Tuscan Dream Reimagined in California

Nick and I met in Florence, Italy, while studying abroad during our junior year of college, so Italy has always held a special place in our hearts. We initially considered getting married there, but ultimately, California made the most sense for our families. Still, we knew we wanted to bring a Tuscan-inspired feel to our wedding, and when we discovered La Tarantella, it truly felt like Italy had been brought to us. Our reception design revolved around the venue’s breathtaking oak tree, with a custom round, marble-inspired bar serving as the focal point. Marble, along with linens and ceramics, were elements we weaved in throughout the day to evoke the essence of Tuscany. Linen was used for our bar menu at cocktail hour and the dinner menus at the reception, adding a soft touch. One of our favorite design elements was the blue hand-painted ceramic dinner plates, which felt like a nod to Italian craftsmanship. We paired the plates with ribbed wineglasses and scalloped chargers to match the playfulness of the design. In addition to the round reception bar, our cocktail bar and dance floor were also designed to replicate the beauty of marble, creating a cohesive look. Blending our wedding seamlessly with La Tarantella’s natural beauty was also a priority. To do so, we selected dark wood pews for the ceremony, as well as dark wood dining tables and chairs for the reception. The dark wood perfectly complemented the large oak trees on the property. The venue’s signature dusty-rose tone inspired the font color for our invites and menus, as well as the marble tones of the cocktail and reception bars, dance floor, and florals. Every choice was made to reflect the warmth and romance of Tuscany while embracing the stunning setting we fell in love with – even down to the name cards at the reception tables, which were Italian-inspired scrolls with dusty-rose calligraphy, and the table numbers, which were inspired by the plaster walls of Italian apartments.

Nick proposed on a private beach at sunset in Kauai while we were there celebrating our fourth dating anniversary. It was such a special moment, and we loved having a few days on the island to soak it all in just the two of us before sharing the news.

For my dress shopping, my mom, sisters, and lifelong best friend joined me in L.A., making it such a special experience. We visited several boutiques, but I kept coming back to Monique Lhuillier’s designs. While I loved every dress I tried on, I didn’t find the one until my second visit. I ultimately chose the Kate gown by Monique Lhuillier—it felt so romantic, delicate, and timeless, which aligned beautifully with our venue. The Chantilly lace also reminded me of Paris, where Nick and I lived together for a month, adding an extra sentimental touch. I worked with Monique to customize the gown, adding a transparent bodice, satin-covered buttons, and a two-foot train. For the ceremony, I paired it with the Helena jacket and matching Kate veil, extending the veil by two feet so the lace details would be even more visible against my train. For the after-party, I changed into the Rosa Mini by Australian designer Christie Nicole. As a dancer, I knew I wanted a mini dress to move freely, and I loved that the Rosa Mini felt just as timeless as my wedding gown while offering something different—it featured intricate beading and appliqués instead of lace. My accessories were equally meaningful. I wore a gold and diamond pendant necklace from Nick’s grandmother, featuring delicate olive leaf details—so fitting for our Tuscan-inspired wedding. I borrowed my hair clip from my older sister, who wore it on her wedding day. I also wore my opal ring that belonged to my grandmother, a piece I wear daily, and had a locket my sister gifted me tied around my bouquet. I paired these with Jimmy Choo heels and carried a Bella Rosa clutch, which felt perfect since it was Italian-made and complemented my after-party dress beautifully.

[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]I fell in love with the softness of Reformation’s Frankie silk dress in Porcelain for my bridesmaids. I knew I wanted some variation in their looks, so I paired different styles from Shona Joy’s La Lune collection in powder blue. The soft blue of the Reformation dress became a key inspiration throughout our design, influencing the cocktail hour table linens, reception runner, bar menus at the Piaggio truck and coffee cart, and even the floral arrangements at the reception.[/field]

One of Nick’s only requests for our wedding was to serve blueberry steak. This dish was inspired by Acqua Al 2, a neighborhood restaurant he frequented during our study abroad in Florence. For drinks, we created three signature cocktails, each with a name that had personal significance. My cocktail was a replica of my go-to drink from Madison on Park, one of our favorite date night spots in San Diego. We renamed it La Ghibellina after the street where our Florence apartments were located—the very place where Nick and I first met. Nick’s cocktail was named The Ryman, after the historic music venue in Nashville where we had our first official date as a couple when we returned for our senior year of school. Our third cocktail, The Gigi, was a citrusy twist on my grandma’s favorite drink, a margarita, and was named in her honor. We also served beer and kombucha out of a Piaggio truck, which was another really fun nod to Florence! For dessert, we served fruit tarts and madeleine cookies as a nod to the month we spent together in Paris. Since Nick and I are both coffee fanatics, a coffee bar was a must. One of our favorite things to do together is enjoy a for-here mug of coffee at new cafés, so we wanted to bring that experience to our wedding. We served my favorite honey cinnamon latte, Nick’s go-to cortado, and affogatos for a sweet, espresso-filled treat. We carried our love for coffee into the after-party as well, serving espresso martinis to keep the energy high.

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]I’ve always loved vintage and vintage-inspired pieces, so we incorporated that aesthetic into our wedding design. The chandeliers above the reception tables and the pendant lights hanging from the trees were both vintage-inspired. We also used weathered-looking vases to display the bar signs at the reception. The distressed, pewter flatware at the reception was also reminiscent of Ancient Italy. Together, these elements added a romantic, old-world charm, which tied in beautifully with our Tuscan theme.

For our ceremony, we knew from the start that we wanted to exchange vows in front of the vineyards, with the rolling hills as our backdrop—a setting that was very reminiscent of Italy. Our incredible florist, Max Gil, designed florals that complemented the natural beauty of the space, working with the existing oak branches that formed an organic arch.

My bou had peonies – my favorite flower – and other layered flowers, like garden roses, to help achieve the romantic aesthetic we were going for.

We knew we wanted a lemon olive oil cake for our wedding—something unique, aligned perfectly with our Italian vision, and, of course, delicious. With my gluten and dairy allergies, we were a bit nervous about finding the perfect cake. Thankfully, our planners discovered Bleum Malibu in L.A., a bakery that specializes in allergen-free, organic, and incredibly tasty cakes. It was exactly what we were hoping for!

It was really important to us to have a ceremony that was centered around Christian faith, so we selected gospel songs that we regularly listen to at church, including the song I walked down the aisle to—Rescue by Lauren Daigle. For our first dance, we chose In Your Love by Tyler Childers. His music blends bluegrass, folk, and country, and we knew we wanted our first dance to this music genre to reflect the Nashville part of our story. We saw him perform this song live while we were planning the wedding, and we just knew it had to be our first dance. Since it was such a special moment for us, we decided to have it played acoustically, so we flew in two incredible country musicians from Nashville to perform it live. The FortNash musicians also performed at our welcome party, cocktail hour, and throughout the dinner portion of the reception. For our last song at the reception, we chose Our Song by Taylor Swift. Taylor’s music is something we play daily at home, so we knew it had to make an appearance at the wedding—it just felt so us. To end the night at the after-party, we played Closer by The Chainsmokers. Kind of a funny story—this was the number one song played on repeat at the bar we both went to during our freshman year of college in Nashville. We would go to the same small bar almost every week and somehow never met until 2 years later, halfway across the world. So, this song was a fun throwback for all our Vanderbilt friends at the wedding!

One of our favorite elements of the wedding was our escort card display, which was inspired by our weekly trips to the farmers market, where we do most of our grocery shopping. The display featured fresh, seasonal fruits, making it not only a beautiful and sentimental touch but also interactive for our guests.

From the beginning, we knew we wanted pew seating for the ceremony. Our first official date as a couple was at The Ryman, a historic music venue in Nashville, where we both went to school, and we sat in pews during the concert. And since pews are also reminiscent of church, it felt so fitting to carry that tradition into our ceremony.

We also wanted our welcome bags to be deeply personal and reflective of our story. Among other items, we included Vandy potato chips as a nod to our college, a fresh-baked croissant to remember our month in Paris, and chocolate from the Italian brand Venchi as a tribute to where we first met. Instead of traditional boutonnieres, Nick and his groomsmen wore lapel pins. Each pin was selected by Nick to represent something meaningful about his friendship with that particular groomsman. For his pin, Nick wore a fleur-de-lis as a nod to Italy, where our journey began.

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]The wedding weekend began with a vibrant Pizza Party at Hotel Bonadies, where guests arrived in chic white attire to celebrate under the stars in true Italian style. Upon arrival at the welcome dinner, each guest was greeted with a beautifully curated traditional Bimini bag — filled with thoughtful gifts and all the essential details for the weekend ahead.
The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with long tables adorned with crisp linens, white flowers, and fresh lemons — a tribute to the timeless charm of the Amalfi Coast. Guests enjoyed freshly made pizzas from a wood-fired oven, sipped local wines, and soaked in the joyful energy of the evening.
Adding an artistic touch to the night, a live painter captured the magic of the celebration on canvas, turning fleeting moments into lasting memories. As the evening came to a close, a spectacular tiramisù tower was unveiled — the perfect sweet ending to a beautiful and heartfelt start to the festivities.[/field]

Second Day, family dinner at “Trattoria da Lorenzo”, classic Italian style dinner. With old-style table settings with pasta, tomatoes, and a red table runner. Surrounded by close family and friends, guests enjoyed a traditional Italian feast featuring local wines, fresh pasta, and seasonal dishes prepared with love. It was a relaxed, joy-filled evening that captured the essence of Italian hospitality — where food, family, and connection take center stage. A perfect continuation of a wedding weekend full of heartfelt moments and unforgettable memories.

An Italian Lakeside Celebration at Villa Cortine Filled with Color Cuisine and Connection

The color palette for this wedding was pulled from the villa itself: creamy sandstone to match the walls, soft, moody greens to pick up the interior wallpapers, dusty rose, and sunset shades to capture the colors glittering on the lake.

With an incredible guest experience as the key priority, this beautiful celebration was full of thoughtful touches that celebrated its unique location and allowed guests to relax in the splendor of a 5-star Villa Cortine Palace Hotel. Each event was designed to feel unique, unified by exceptional cuisine and good company. From local dinners in the town center to bringing all guests together at one long candlelit table stretching into Lake Garda on Villa Cortine’s private dock, to high elegance on the sunset terrace for the wedding feast, each meal centered around appreciating local Italian food in a surreal and stunning setting. Jane Handles Weddings brought their vision to life, prioritizing an outstanding guest experience, seamless event flow, and thoughtful touches to make each guest feel special, relaxed, and completely at home at Villa Cortine.

One fateful day in Philadelphia, Alyssa swiped right on Nate’s Bumble profile, intrigued by his sultry gaze and Peace Corps service in Botswana. After a sizzling text exchange about Harry Potter, they met on Friday the 13th, January 2017, at the Fishtown Tavern. Alyssa was very impressed with Nate’s stature and charm, but the bar was so crowded she could barely discern anything he said. Nate insisted Alyssa’s dating app photos of her completely covered in dirt did her a great disservice—but she’d already inhaled six whiskies by then, and he was somewhat apprehensive of where the night might lead. On a hunch, they relocated to Alyssa’s house, where they dove into the conventional first date subjects—metaphysics and death—each delighting the other with matched wit, perspicacity, and candor. Deeply infatuated, they reluctantly parted the next morning. In a panicked attempt to play it cool, Alyssa then ignored Nate for a week, which greatly confused him. After a demand for an explanation and another date, the pair joyfully reunited over a meatball stromboli and have been inseparable ever since. Six years, six homes, one cross-country move, fifty dog toys, and a few career changes later, Nate took Alyssa on a morning stroll through an olive grove outside the Tuscan hilltop town of Chiusi, where he proposed, and she accepted. They returned to Italy, a place so special to both of them, to tie the knot surrounded by their closest friends and family.

Alyssa is an avid pant enthusiast who mostly wears only black in daily life–so, if she were going to wear a white dress, she wanted it to be an extraordinary one. She fell in love with Nicole and Felicia as a woman-owned brand with statement-making, editorial silhouettes, and when she tried the 303 at Jaxson James Bridal in Los Angeles, she knew it was the one. (She loved it so much that she carried the thirty-pound dress by hand through three different airports on her way to Italy.) For her reception look, she chose something that showcased a different, more familiar side of her personality: a black corset pant suit from Fleur du Mal.

Nate opted for a timeless Zegna suit (when in Italy, only an Italian suit will do), but the most special item was his late father’s watch, which he had refurbished for the occasion as a way to include his memory and hold him dear.

Part of the reason we chose a beautiful venue in Italy was that exceptional food was such a priority, and where better than Bella Italia? Alyssa and Nate’s multi-day fete celebrated the local cuisine. The celebrations kicked off with a boat tour on Lake Garda, complete with an aperitivo on board, for the immediate families. On the arrival day for most guests, Thursday, Alyssa and Nate hosted a multi-course feast in the historic city center of Sirmione on Thursday for all guests who arrived before the festivities officially began. On Friday, we transformed the Villa Cortine private dock into a modern, romantic tablescape to bring all their guests together at one table stretching down the dock, and stations included local meats and cheeses, fresh pizza, housemade pastas, a roaring grill station, and, of course, a gelato cart. On Saturday, guests enjoyed an aperitivo hour filled with traditional Italian delicacies, and even got to watch mozzarella being made before their eyes. The wedding feast was set on the west side of the villa, so guests could enjoy the sunset over the terrace, and included a parade of dishes, many of which made their appearance in the form of line drawings done by the bride on the beautiful menus.

To set the tone for the celebration, we wanted to make sure the stationery gave guests a sense of excitement, wonder, and place. The whole family fell in love with Jane Handles Weddings ’ save-the-date design–a foldable paper airplane, which she had used for her destination wedding! Together, we updated the design to include an antique map of Lake Garda, which was perfect to garner guests’ excitement for a destination wedding. Jane even lovingly printed and pre-folded each card by hand. The bride, Alyssa, is a writer and film director – and also an incredibly talented artist. She created gorgeous line drawings, which Ma Plume Design incorporated into the stationery suite. One of these drawings was a full-scale venue illustration, rendered in the greens and neutrals inspired by the venue and landscape. Ma Plume Design created a custom vellum wrap printed with soft watercolor details, which, when pressed against the invite, created a colored-in overlay, bringing the line drawing to life! The suite was secured with a personalized wax seal with an intricate drawing of the couple’s initials, drawn by Alyssa and materialized by Léa. The seal was then used throughout the wedding weekend materials, as on the Welcome cards waiting for guests in their rooms. For the Friday welcome dinner, given the spectacular setting on the water, and to contrast with the lush florals on Saturday, we opted instead for a sleek, modern, minimalist design. The table was set in neutral shades, and instead of flowers, we filled the center with glowing candlelight. The water in the floating candles echoed the lake setting. For a pop of color, each place setting had a different color water glass, made in nearby Murano. The effect was ethereal! Léa of Ma Plume Design also borrowed inspiration from the event design, pulling the exact etched pattern from the colorful glasses for the welcome dinner to create a colorful seating chart, with each table with its bright color.

Alyssa and Nate leaned into the local Italian tradition of constructing their wedding cake together in front of their guests. Millefoglie (which means 1000 sheets, to describe the flaky pastry) is assembled layer by layer with crispy pastry, cream, and fresh berries, and topped off with a dusting of powdered sugar to symbolize a sweet life together.

Alyssa and Nate chose to forgo the tradition of bridesmaids and groomsmen, and instead had two of their closest friends dual officiate the wedding. To ground the ceremony in the timelessness of the exceptional place that surrounded them, they included a mention of the ancient Roman poet Catullus, who wrote of his home, Sirmion, two millennia ago, and who happened to be the favorite poet of Alyssa’s late grandmother. Although non-religious, it was important for the bride and groom to include and mix the traditions and rituals of Alyssa’s Jewish and Nate’s Italian heritages, so they shared a sip of chianti, and both stepped on a glass at the end (Alyssa accidentally missed and stopped on Nate’s foot instead, but he played it cool.) A four-piece gypsy band played acoustic renditions of Alyssa and Nate’s favorite songs: Maybe I’m Amazed by Paul McCartney for the entrance, and Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin as they exited together as newlyweds.

To help guests find their seats at each event, we got creative. For the welcome dinner on the dock, Ma Plume Design + Calligraphy designed gorgeous leather luggage tags as placecards for each guest, and for a destination-wedding-appropriate keepsake for all those who traveled from around the world to join in their celebration. For the wedding, Jane Handles Weddings transformed a vintage cart into a display for limoncello bottles. Inspired by the bride’s love of Alice in Wonderland, Ma Plume calligraphed tags reminiscent of the “drink me” labels to help guests find their seats. The limoncello was not just an Italian treat, but also one that was particularly local: the lemons used to make it were grown in Limone Sul Garda, right on the lake, giving guests a taste of local lemons (complete with a custom label celebrating the couple). The bottles were selected to be TSA-approved, to ensure guests could bring them home, too.

For a quirky and comedic touch, Alyssa and her mother, Peggy, decided to merge two family traditions at the cocktail hour: Nate’s love of playing cornhole in his yard in Pennsylvania as a child on one hand, and, on the other, a love of antique erotic prints that began with Alyssa’s late grandmother, who adored collecting it. The two custom cornhole boards featured designs fashioned from etchings of raunchy frescoes in Pompeii and labeled with fictional playful captions, like “Il Ballo Nuziale” (“The Wedding Dance”).

To make every guest feel like they were being welcomed into a loving home, old family photos from Alyssa and Nate’s childhoods were placed into small wood frames and sprinkled throughout the entire Villa for the weekend, personalizing the space and creating a conversation piece for guests as they wandered through the beautiful rooms.

A September Day in French Blue at the Historic Armour House in Lake Forest

In everyday life, I lean very neutral. My closet is mostly black, and our home is mostly white. But something about this wedding felt like it called for color. I didn’t want to rush right into a fall palette, given our September date, but didn’t want anything too light or summery, either. We quickly landed on a French Blue that pulled ever-so-slightly gray that felt classic and expressive. The hue reminded me of Jack’s vivid blue eyes — one of my favorite things about him — and paired beautifully with the gray veining in the marble throughout our venue. I got confirmation I made the right decision when the ink shade our stationer recommended for our invitation suite was called “Hydrangea Blue,” fitting given my favorite flowers that were the floral focus of our wedding.

Jack and I were married at the historic Armour House at Lake Forest Academy — a breathtaking estate on Chicago’s North Shore and just a few minutes from where I grew up. Built in 1908 by J. Ogden Armour as a summer retreat, the home is steeped in history and feels suspended in time, with formal Italianate gardens, dramatic staircases, and ornate plasterwork. As an art history major with a particular affection for classical architecture, I fell head over heels for every detail. We were inspired to create a wedding that felt just as timeless and elegant as the venue itself. But more than anything, we wanted the day to feel deeply personal. Despite hosting loved ones from near and far (London! Florence!), it felt intimate — like one big, joy-filled dinner party with all our favorite people. We layered in thoughtful touches everywhere we could — little details that told our story, celebrated our families, and made the evening feel personal despite the scale. The venue itself has so much character. The 300-foot garden aisle ends with a dreamy reflection pool and pagoda. Inside, the Great Hall is anchored by a grand curved staircase — originally designed so Mr. Armour’s daughter could descend on her wedding day (talk about legacy!). Our reception took place there, followed by dancing in the garden room, which features romantic latticing, abundant cornicing, and a cherub-topped fountain. Later, guests lingered into the night in the wood-paneled library, enjoying cake and conversation under the warm glow of sconces. And the weather? Utter perfection. I checked the forecast obsessively leading up to the big day, terrified of rain. But the universe delivered the most spectacular September weather: 80 degrees, clear blue skies, and an ethereal golden hour that lit up the garden during cocktail hour like a dream. We still talk about how lucky we were.

Jack and I met on the first night of college at Miami University in 2015 and have been best friends ever since. I think we’re the perfect clichéd example of “if you know, you know.” Getting engaged was never really a question of if — just when. Fast forward eight years, one long-distance relationship between Chicago and Washington, D.C., and countless flights and FaceTimes later, Jack still managed to completely surprise me with the sweetest proposal. He picked an unassuming Sunday evening — which happened to be the same day we started dating years prior — to pop the question after a drink at one of our favorite neighborhood spots, Coq d’Or. It’s a cozy wood-paneled bar tucked underneath the stairs at The Drake Hotel, a place that means a lot to me. I have fond childhood memories of afternoon tea there with my mother and my late grandmother, hence why Jack thought to propose there. I love that he wanted to honor the women I love so dearly in that special moment. The proposal was very “Jack” — thoughtful, quietly confident, understated, and private. He got down on one knee in the stillness of the tea room — empty at that time of day — and asked me to marry him. I could feel my grandmother’s presence there with us. I remember the rush of adrenaline, the sense of calm, the shock (yes, even after eight years!), and the overwhelming joy. The night was pure magic thanks to Jack and will be one of those memories I’ll think about for the rest of my time. I loved that it was just the two of us basking in the moment. Our faces hurt from smiling.

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]For as long as I can remember, I’ve thought Grace Kelly was the pinnacle of bridal perfection. The moment I put on Sareh Nouri’s Mary Catherine design — a taffeta ballgown with a high neckline and long sleeves made of delicately embroidered rose lace, accented by a cummerbund and back button detailing — I knew it was “the one.” I loved how light and airy the taffeta was, knowing I would never want to take it off because it was so easy to wear, and it turns out I was right. I had originally planned to change into a reimagined Oscar de la Renta gown — my mom’s wedding dress, which we had beautifully updated — but I couldn’t bear to take off my Sareh Nouri. I wore it all night.

The Armour House’s epic aisle called for an equally dramatic veil: five meters long, with horsehair trim to mirror the dress and give it that cloud-like float as I walked. I couldn’t resist a blusher either — is there anything more quintessentially bridal?![/field]

The lovely ladies in my life wore a selection of Alfred Sung gowns in the colorway “Mist,” a dreamy, clouded French Blue that echoed our palette perfectly. The structured silhouettes each bridesmaid chose were perfectly simple, elegant, and feminine — some with bow details, others with small trumpet flares — and complemented each other beautifully in different ways. I gasped when I saw them all dressed as we were getting ready. A cloud of true blue perfection! They were all as pretty on the outside as they are on the inside.

Signature cocktails were one of my favorite ways to inject personal details for our guests to enjoy. I worked with my dear friend (and talented graphic designer!), Emma Lorenzen, to create a custom bar menu that told little stories from our lives. The lineup included: – The Miami Merger Martini, a nod to the Miami University tradition (and the fact that so many alumni marry each other — us included!) – The Brick Street Spritz, named after the bar where we first met on our very first night of college, and – The Honey Buzz, a tribute to our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Honey, who is our child and our mascot. Some of our bar signs featured an illustration of Honey that read, “Drinks on Me! Love, Honey.” It was such a light-hearted, playful moment. As for the food, Jack stepped into the spotlight during this part of the planning. We had so many incredible options during our tasting at The Armour House, but ultimately went with elevated American classics. Guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres like mini beef Wellingtons, lobster rolls (our favorite!), bacon-wrapped scallops, and caramelized onion and goat cheese tartlets during cocktail hour. Our dinner began with a fresh orchard pear salad topped with goat cheese, cranberries, and pecans, followed by a tart lemon sorbet intermezzo. Entrées included grilled filet with peppercorn crust and bordelaise, Chilean sea bass with lemon beurre blanc (inspired by our go-to dish at RL in Chicago), and a roasted vegetable Wellington with mushroom duxelles. Each plate was served with dauphinoise potatoes, haricots verts, and heirloom carrots — artfully arranged and delicious.

The decision was easy: hydrangeas, hydrangeas, hydrangeas! I am utterly obsessed with hydrangeas and always have them in our house. Deciding to use them in our wedding was a no-brainer. There’s no better flower, if you ask me. Beyond being beautiful, hydrangeas are an impactful choice: they are voluminous and can be sourced year-round, so they’re also fairly cost-conscious compared to other harder-to-find, seasonal florals. We were lucky enough to work with a very talented florist, Amy Crum, who kindly honored all my type-A meticulousness. I wanted everything to feel clean, structured, and classic, so we used tightly shaped hydrangea spheres in our bouquets and arrangements, with no filler or frills. It created a sense of timeless symmetry and softness all at once. I didn’t want anything too frou-frou or over the top. Amy remarked throughout the planning process that our wedding was “the pearl necklace of weddings” — the ultimate compliment, if you ask me. Blue toile table linens we sourced from a vendor, Urquid, in Los Angeles, outfitted cocktail hour tables in the garden and garden room. My mom and I both love toile, which we featured as a design element in our invitation suite, so to carry that motif through to day-of, it only made sense to pick this patterned choice for tables, too. For dinner, we transitioned to BBJ La Tavola’s “Lake” faille tablecloths, which added a soft, moody elegance to the Great Hall. At the reception, flickering candlelight showcased round menus that doubled as place cards, created by our wonderful stationer, Empress Stationery, which acted as an additional layer of visual interest. The menu card pattern mimicked the floral “Versailles” motif (which has a sweet little bow at the very bottom of the floral wreath) featured in our invitation suite to tie the elements together. My mom has “more is more” taste with a keen eye for detail, and wanted a very layered table look. We added mercury glass votives and silver julep cups with two to three hydrangea puffs, along with tapered candles on silver pillars, and accented place settings with blue toile napkins from the same linen vendor. Our bars felt like an easy, impactful moment to layer in personal details (just think how many eyes are on a bar throughout the night!), so I had silver julep cups engraved with “From Lake Forest With Love” that held custom matchbooks featuring our monogram in a French Blue foil for guests to light their cigars. Footed crystal spoon holders that I nabbed from my late grandmother’s stash of entertaining ware held drink stirrers that featured Honey’s sweet little face. Originally intended for signature cocktails, they eventually found their way to the pockets of guests’ tuxedos, making playful appearances throughout the evening — one of my favorite memories. There were sightings of little Honey faces everywhere! I couldn’t stop smiling, seeing her peeking out when and where we least expected her.

I love cake — especially wedding cake. I’ll always say yes to a piece. So when it came time to decide on ours, I was overwhelmed by choice. Ultimately, we stuck with the classics — a yellow cake with buttercream frosting. My parents couldn’t believe it, but oh well, call me basic! Design-wise, I wanted something tall-ish and tailored. We opted for several tiers to give the cake some stature, and kept the look minimal, letting one detail speak for itself: a structured fondant bow, affixed to the top and cascading gracefully to the bottom. It was a nod to the bow featured in the Versailles motif from our paper suite — a quiet through-line that felt intentional and refined. I loved how architectural it was: clean, classic, and quietly dramatic. A figure of our beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Honey, topped the cake. She’s the sweetest girl, so it only felt right to have her crown our sweet treat.

The celebration ensued as “September” belted while Jack and I descended the Great Hall stairs into our reception, signaling a start to the party. Everyone rose, sang, and danced along with us as we made our way to our table, no small feat given how long and narrow the space is.

We had the time of our lives dancing our way into forever — some of the pictures that came out of those few minutes are hysterical! The energy our guests gave us that evening was the greatest gift. They made it a night we’ll never forget. Looking around the room and feeling the amount of love was a true “pinch me” moment. No, I’m not crying as I write this… Okay, maybe a little. [/field]

Ceremony: From start to finish, we poured ourselves into the details to make our day feel uniquely us. Our ceremony was one of the most meaningful parts of the entire weekend — officiated by family and friends who feel like family. We wanted it to reflect our roots and the new family we were forming — because that’s what a wedding is at the end of the day, right? We didn’t want to lose sight of that. My parents walked me down the aisle, and in a completely unscripted and touching moment, walked back up arm in arm with Jack’s parents, now family too. Jack walked down the aisle with his mom and dad — such a sweet, grounding way to start the ceremony. Our nephews, in matching suits and French Blue ties, held hands and stole everyone’s heart as ring bearers. Jack’s great uncle — a Rear Admiral and the patriarch of his family — officiated our ceremony with grace and wisdom. We included an excerpt from a traditional Jewish ketubah read by our dear friend and husband of my maid of honor, honoring my heritage, and Jack’s father read an Irish blessing, May the Road Rise to Meet You, paying tribute to his. There wasn’t a dry eye in the garden, and for good reason. Those thirty minutes were some of the most meaningful moments of the life of Jack and me, and our families now share. There was simply no better way to start a marriage than that. We feel so incredibly lucky. As guests entered the garden ahead of our ceremony, we found ourselves with an opportunity to make an impactful, “set the stage” moment, both in terms of personal detail and decor. We styled a long table draped in blue toile linen (of course) with a collection of our family’s wedding photos — from grandparents to parents on both sides. It was a beautiful, grounding way to greet guests with the beaming faces of loved ones who were there in spirit, and really set the tone. We sourced three-dimensional white hydrangea frames to echo the lush arrangements on the terrace. A French Blue Petite Keep trunk held white parasols to shield guests from the sun, and our silver monogrammed champagne bowl from Mark & Graham was filled with fans — thoughtful touches with both form and function in mind. Our string trio played Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker from prelude to postlude — a small detail many probably didn’t notice, but one that held so much meaning. It was a nod to my recently departed grandfather and his love for classical music, as well as to my dad. We spent many holiday seasons watching The Nutcracker together as a family, and my dad loves the score, so sweet memories all around.

I had a lot of ideas in my head that no one seemed to offer prefabricated, but luckily, my parents are creative and don’t shy away from a challenge. They brought my dream to life with their own hands, much like they have my whole life. My dad made a latticed seating chart display — a nod to the abundant latticing in the garden room — with a planter box for hydrangeas anchoring the structure, which he covered in leftover fabric from the blue toile table linens. He also sewed a little evening bag for me to tote my lipstick around in using leftover fabric from my dress alterations that he managed to convince the seamstress to give him at our last fitting appointment (he joined me for every single one). That’s one of my favorite memories from the wedding planning process — he was truly there every step of the way. My dad is the most handy person I know and is meticulous about details, so he joined me for the dress shopping and alterations process from start to finish. He has an excellent eye and knew every question to ask — he even bustled my dress. And on the morning of the wedding, I finally opened the last full bottle of Chanel No. 5 that belonged to my late grandmother. I’d saved it for years, waiting for this day. As I spritzed it while getting ready, I felt instantly connected to her — grounded, loved, and ready to marry the love of my life. What more could you ask for? For our welcome boxes, we included a bag of my late grandmother’s lemon shortbread cookies, along with her recipe. It was my way of letting her travel home with our guests — a little piece of her love sent out into the world. She would’ve been tickled.

Michelle Demaree, the founder of Miss Diamond Ring, has dedicated her life to crafting bespoke engagement rings that reflect the beauty of love. But when she met Paul, an aerospace engineer at SpaceX, her own love story began to unfold—one that was equal parts grounded and celestial. Field to Table Events curated a feast of fresh, organic cuisine that delighted every guest, while Flair Project Bartending kept spirits high with an unforgettable cocktail experience. Custom signature drinks included “Paul’s Picante,” a fiery take on his beloved spicy margarita; “Michelle’s Moonstruck Martini,” a luminous blend of rhubarb vodka, grilled peach, ginger, lime, and pink grapefruit; and the crowd favorite, “Rocket Fuel,” a refreshing mix of mint, lime, cucumber, and marjoram gin. Adding a meaningful touch, each drink was adorned with a paper-clipped love quote, allowing guests to unfold a little piece of inspiration with every sip.

The centuries-old oak tree beneath which Michelle and Paul exchanged vows was adorned with a cascading canopy of garden roses in soft blush, ivory, and pastel pink—transforming the space into a living fairytale. The aisle was lined with a dreamy palette of spring florals in rainbow pastels, creating a whimsical path that felt straight out of a storybook.[/field]

Laurie at Room For Cake made a beautiful 3-tier white and pastel floral cake that had a watercolor effect to it. Flavors ranged from chocolate, white chocolate, raspberry, to coconut and confetti (for the little ones).

Ryan Haddon, Michelle’s breathwork and life coach for several years, became an officiant specifically to marry Michelle and Paul. This was, in many ways, the culmination of the work they had done together. Realizing self-love within, and calling in true love with her soulmate, Paul.

One of the most tender moments of the ceremony came when Paul, in becoming not only a husband but also a stepfather, honored Michelle’s 10-year-old daughter, Charlotte. As a symbol of their new family bond, he presented her with a custom-made gold necklace featuring a star for Charlotte, a heart for Michelle, and a rocket for himself—a deeply personal gesture of love and unity. In a poetic touch that echoed their celestial love story, the gold used to craft the necklace had also been flown to space.

Aimee and Kavi’s wedding day at The Ritz-Carlton, Santa Barbara, beautifully reflected their love of the ocean and natural California landscapes. With the Pacific as their backdrop, they shared an intimate first look—Kavi in a classic tuxedo and Aimee in a stunning Vivienne Westwood gown—before exchanging vows in a heartfelt ceremony. As the fog rolled in, it created a dreamlike, coastal atmosphere that felt both mystical and deeply romantic. Guests were welcomed with fresh coconuts stamped with the couple’s monogram and serenaded by a string quartet as Aimee’s cousin officiated, weaving together their love story, family traditions, and personal anecdotes that left the crowd both laughing and in tears. The celebration continued with cocktails and Indian street food favorites on the Bluff Lawn, followed by a reception that completely transformed the ballroom into a lush, Mediterranean-inspired garden. Real olive trees, a ceiling of cascading greenery, delicate white florals, and glowing candlelight created an atmosphere of timeless elegance. Guests enjoyed Chilean sea bass, lamb, or tofu—each infused with traditional Indian spices—before indulging in the couple’s favorite dessert: a decadent flourless chocolate cake. Aimee and Kavi’s first dance to “Islands in the Stream” set the tone for an evening of heartfelt toasts, joyful laughter, and a packed dance floor. It was a celebration that seamlessly blended cultures, coastal beauty, and the couple’s unmistakable warmth—an unforgettable night of love and connection.

Cocktail Hour – Indian street appetizers such as a bhel poori, paratha and kathi, paani poori, and tandoori shrimp tikka. Dinner – Dinner was an option between Chilean sea bass, lamb, or tofu. However, guests were surprised to find they were cooked using traditional Indian flavors and spices by the incredible Chef Susanto Bhattacharya.

Although the fog blocked the ocean view, the guests were happily eating, chatting, and drinking, many of them trying certain dishes for the first time. Aimee and Kavi then entered the ball room a couple minutes before the guests to see and enjoy the space privately. Christy and the entire decor team had flawlessly transformed the room, bringing in real olive trees, a ceiling installation of greenery, and incorporating small white flowers and candles. They watched their guests walk in and stare in awe.

Kavi and Aimee fell in love with the Ritz-Carlton, Santa Barbara because of the way the hotel embraces the natural flora and fauna of the area – letting the flowers grow like wildflowers, highlighting the raw beauty of the ocean, and even being the home of many adorable bunny rabbits. They were especially impressed with the service, attention, care, and luxury that the hotel delivered to create such a special environment.

For her Lake Como wedding, Laura envisioned a bridal look that would capture both the romantic grandeur of the setting and her love for couture craftsmanship. She selected the Oscar de la Renta bridal gown, Look 9 from the Fall 2023 collection — a breathtaking semi-translucent ballgown adorned with delicate 3D florals. The gown’s lightness and intricate detailing gave her an ethereal presence, as if the blossoms were gently floating around her with every movement. To complete her ensemble, Laura chose the matching Oscar de la Renta veil, perfectly echoing the gown’s floral artistry and adding an extra layer of dreamlike beauty. Her bridal shoes from Valentino, featuring enchanting 3D butterflies, were a subtle yet striking touch that added playfulness and sophistication. Every element of Laura’s attire was thoughtfully chosen to reflect her refined style and love for artistry, turning her bridal look into a living expression of elegance and romance — perfectly suited to the enchanting atmosphere of Lake Como.

He wore a bespoke three-piece suit from Brioni in a rich, dark green — his favourite colour — perfectly complementing the natural beauty of Lake Como. The deep hue brought a sense of understated sophistication, while cream accessories, a cognac-coloured belt, and matching leather shoes completed the look with warm, refined accents. To make the ensemble even more meaningful, Michael’s brother gifted him custom cufflinks on the morning of the wedding, delicately engraved with his initials. Adding an intimate, sentimental layer, Michael also wore the wristwatch that once belonged to Laura’s late father — a subtle yet deeply heartfelt tribute that carried emotional significance throughout the day. Every element of his attire felt intentional and deeply personal, reflecting not only his impeccable taste but also the cherished relationships that shaped this unforgettable celebration.

Following the ceremony, guests were welcomed with light canapés, including seared tuna with Tropea onion and ponzu, crispy squid with lemon mayo, and Sicilian eggplant patties. Alongside non-alcoholic refreshments, they served Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque 2015 — Laura’s favorite champagne. Not only did she love the taste, but the delicate floral motif on the bottle echoed their wedding design perfectly. A signature cocktail named after their dachshund, “Sir Fritz,” added a playful personal touch. A vintage ice cream cart offered artisanal flavors like Asian Coconut, Pistachio, and Dark Chocolate from Peru — a sentimental nod to their restaurant in Germany. Their Italian head chef, whose family ran a gelateria for generations, now creates handmade ice cream for their restaurant, which Laura and Michael adore. Their love for gelato is so deep that they make it a point to find a Venchi shop wherever they travel. Dinner was a refined six-course Italian menu, featuring blue lobster with mango and yuzu, wagyu with black truffle, maccheroncino with red prawns, lemon risotto with wild asparagus, and Iberico pork with truffle mushrooms. Each dish celebrated seasonal flavor and culinary artistry — a perfect blend of elegance, intimacy, and deeply personal detail.

A mirrored aisle amplified the lush design, reflecting the floral meadows arranged between sage green metal garden chairs and creating the illusion of walking through a sea of flowers. Custom fabric signage carried their personalized design from welcome boards to cocktail menus, adding another thoughtful layer of cohesion. For the reception, soft rose-toned lounge furniture complemented the palette and allowed guests to relax in style. Dinner took place in the Mandarin Oriental’s greenhouse, where we surrounded the wedding party with meadows behind the chairs, low centerpieces in sculptural vases, and warm taper candles for a soft, romantic glow. Gold-trimmed glassware, gold cutlery, and charger plates with a delicate leaf twine echoed the botanical elements found in the stationery and menus. Cream linens and napkins added understated elegance and let letters shine. Every detail was curated to immerse guests in a refined yet natural atmosphere that felt both timeless and deeply personal.

Designed by Lisa Bakery, the couple chose a fully vegan three-tier creation, ensuring that every guest — regardless of dietary preferences — could indulge in the sweet celebration. With an intimate guest count of 25, the bottom tier was crafted from foam for balance and proportion, allowing the cake to remain visually striking without excess.

The flavors were a nod to refined, natural indulgence: the top tier featured vanilla sponge with vanilla lavender cream and a zesty lemon layer, while the middle tier paired creamy vanilla with rich pistachio — a combination that was as sophisticated as it was delicious. Visually, the cake carried a clean nude and beige buttercream finish, with a single white orchid cascading down the side, echoing the timeless elegance of the floral design.

The cake-cutting took place during the reception, with the cake table placed directly on the mirrored aisle under the second floral arch. Surrounded by blooming meadows, the simplicity of the cake stood in beautiful contrast to the sea of flowers around it. The top tier was enjoyed on the wedding day, while the middle tier was thoughtfully served during the farewell brunch the next morning — a perfect ending to a weekend full of detail, beauty, and meaning.[/field]

Laura and Michael’s symbolic ceremony at Lake Como was a heartfelt celebration filled with laughter, emotion, and personal touches. While they chose not to include formal readings, the ceremony felt rich in narrative, evoking both tears and laughter among their 25 guests. A string duo provided the soundtrack to this unforgettable moment, opening with Lana Del Rey’s “Young & Beautiful” as Laura walked down the aisle. During the ceremony, “A Thousand Years” and Canon in D set a romantic tone, while their joyful exit to “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls added a playful touch. At the drinks reception, Deb Jones Live Music lifted spirits with a mix of modern songs and Italian classics, encouraging guests to enjoy the sunshine and start celebrating. As the doors to the Mandarin Oriental’s Greenhouse opened for dinner, the string duo returned with Bridgerton-style melodies, adding an extra layer of romance. Their music carried through dinner before the evening transitioned into an energetic blend of live music and DJ sets — the perfect ending to a magical day.

To express their heartfelt gratitude for their guests’ long journey to Lake Como, Laura and Michael wanted to gift them something significant. We proposed custom welcome bags—each personalized with the guest’s name—that were carefully curated to reflect the couple’s love for Italian culture and detail-oriented elegance. Inside, guests discovered a selection of regional delights: Limoncello from Piemonte with a recipe tag for a refreshing Limoncello Spritz, olive oil from Lake Como, truffle delicacies, and artisan lemon-shaped biscuits labeled “Lago di Como” by Lisa Bakery. Thoughtful travel essentials like eye masks, sunscreen, after-sun cream, and a personalized beach towel that matched the couple’s stationery design were also included. Each bag was placed in the guests’ rooms before arrival, along with a welcome note sharing last wedding tips and curated recommendations for their free time during the weekend. Even the photo and video team was thoughtfully included—with bags customized with their brand names and packed with water and refreshments to keep them energized on the wedding day. This gesture was a beautiful example of how Laura and Michael wanted every person, guest, or vendor to feel genuinely cared for.

While Laura and Michael were excited to have wedding photography and a video, they didn’t come into the planning process with a clear vision for how those memories would be captured. As planners, we knew their story deserved a keepsake as meaningful and unique as their celebration. With the upcoming renovation of Laura’s grandparents’ house—where the painting would one day hang—we proposed the idea of a live painting during their wedding. We brought in Caridad Barragan, a talented live painter known for her ability to not only portray the couple but also include their guests in an expressive, recognizable way. Laura and Michael immediately fell in love with the concept. They opted for a large, 2 x 2 meter canvas capturing the scene after the ceremony: guests mingling at the Mandarin Oriental’s amphitheater, overlooking the serene lake. With only 25 guests, Caridad was able to incorporate nearly everyone into the artwork. The painting is still in progress and will be sent to Laura and Michael once their renovated home is complete—an heirloom filled with love, laughter, and everyone who mattered most on their wedding day.

Laura and Michael wanted to create a true “wow” moment for their guests—and what better way than with a surprise firework display set to music over Lake Como? When they first mentioned wanting fireworks, we reached out to Studio 3. We suggested an elevated version: a synchronized show choreographed to three upbeat, feel-good songs for a full sensory experience. To keep the surprise under wraps, we guests went out to the terrace of the Greenhouse under the pretense of kicking off the party with a champagne tower. As Laura and Michael began to pour the champagne, laughter and cheers filled the air. And just as they neared the final glass, the first notes of Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” started, and the sky erupted in color over the lake. With each new song—“Good Feeling” by Flo Rida and “We Found Love” by Rihanna ft. Calvin Harris”—guests thought the show had reached its peak, only to be stunned again. Applause, gasps, and pure joy echoed on the terrace. As the final sparkles faded, the band–DJ mix launched the party with high-energy tunes, and the dance floor instantly came alive.

A Southern Spring Wedding Infused With the Spirit of an Italian Villa

We mostly designed around our Italian villa venue, soft colors, and things we liked. I would say we would categorize it as southern spring Italian, but we didn’t stick with one theme. The vision was to showcase the romantic vibe that Bella Cosa is! We loved the soft colors and textures that were brought into our tablescapes.

Elliott proposed to me in Charleston, SC, on his birthday weekend. We had planned the trip to visit some friends. It was unusual that he did most of the planning when, typically for traveling I do. When we got there, my friends and he were talking about potential ideas for Saturday, which is when all my suspicions went out the window. I was thinking, how do they not have a plan? Am I not getting proposed to? To my surprise, Elliott had said we were meeting our friends before dinner, we walked to the Pipp Street bridge, and there was a blanket with champagne and photos of us. He proposed, a photographer came out and snapped photos, and then our friends came out from hiding. I was so overjoyed and wanted to call my parents as soon as we got back into the car. He said no and claimed he did not want to be driving. When we got back to our rented house, my parents, my 2 brothers, my brother’s now fiancée, my best friend and her husband, and Elliott’s mom and stepdad were all there waiting to surprise me. It was so sweet of him to coordinate them to come and celebrate with us. We went out to dinner and celebrated the rest of the weekend.

Arava Polak, Felia (First Gown) from Flair Bridal, Boston / Custom Aston Bridal for my reception dress. My wedding dresses were such a fun experience, something I had dreamt of for as long as I can remember. My ceremony gown was straight from a runway collection, not yet released. Although I had dreamt of dress shopping, I was so torn on what I wanted. All I went shopping for was a long train. I went with a classy yet whimsical dress that blew in the wind and made me feel both bridal and beautiful. For my second look, I customized a mini from ASTON bridal. This was such a fun experience working with the design team over Zoom calls since they are based in Australia. I added pearls to match my mother’s pearls I wore. The drop waist and bubble skirt were perfect for our DJ/ Sax dance party!

Florals, I wanted a timeless look, but with a pop of spring. I showed Alyssa and Kelsey my mood board, and they completely ran with it! Alyssa saw my vision and helped me bring it to life. We went with a lot of white and green to keep the feeling classic, but brought in the colors my bridesmaids were wearing, baby blue, pale yellow, and sage green to tie things together.

This wedding beautifully embraced its stunning setting, with each space thoughtfully designed to complement the surroundings. The vision was a seamless fusion of timeless, classic elegance with modern touches that nod to the Southern charm of the venue. The bride’s vision for originality was realized through statement pieces like the patterned inlay on the dance floor and unique wraps on the statement bar, as well as custom elements like personalized golf flags on the cocktail hour putting green. Fresh greens and sophisticated florals were thoughtfully incorporated, creating an atmosphere of opulent elegance. The overall design remains polished and refined, elevating the traditional black-tie aesthetic while allowing the natural beauty of the venue to shine through. Every detail was meticulously curated to create a playful, yet timeless celebration of love, surrounded by the perfect backdrop of palm trees and open skies.

Tommy proposed to me on December 23rd, 2023, at a treehouse on his family’s citrus grove where his parents got engaged. It’s also the place where we had our first kiss while we were dating in high school. It was just Tommy and me for the engagement, and then minutes after our families popped out and surprised me, we went back to his parents’ house, and all of our friends and extended family were waiting for us there with champagne and sushi in hand.

A passionate traveler, the bride discovered this gown during a memorable trip to London, falling in love with its exquisite craftsmanship. Every element of her wedding look was a curated treasure from her adventures— this globally inspired ensemble reflects not only her love for fashion but also the journeys that shaped her story.

The wedding featured an exquisite culinary experience, starting with a cocktail hour on the putting green. Guests enjoyed passed appetizers, including savory stuffed mushroom caps, mozzarella and tomato bruschetta, and mini biscuits with pulled pork. The signature cocktails for the evening were an Aperol Margarita and Bourbon Smash, served alongside a full standing bar to cater to all preferences. The guests were then seated to dine on a fresh Panzanella Salad with sourdough croutons before indulging in the main course: a delicious surf and turf featuring filet mignon and lobster cake, complemented by rosemary roasted smashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. To top off the celebration, creamy Espresso Martinis were set up to grab as guests entered the reception tent during the dancing portion of the night, offering a delightful treat to keep the energy high.

The floral arrangements and wooden accents on the chargers and chairs added texture to the tables, while the overall design felt fresh and elegant, blending with the preppy country club aesthetic. From start to finish, the wedding exuded a harmonious blend of timeless beauty and modern style.

Inside, the cake was delightful with refreshing layers of coconut, key lime, and citrus, perfectly complementing the South Florida venue. Surrounded by lush arrangements of ivory and blush blooms, the cake became a showstopping centerpiece.

The welcome party at Hammond Grove kicked off the wedding weekend on Thursday night. Guests gathered around a cozy fire, enjoying the warm glow as they mingled with family and friends. The venue’s rustic charm, located in the groom’s family citrus grove where they had gotten engaged, was enhanced by twinkling lights hanging from the trees and stunning floral arrangements featuring vibrant oranges and lush greenery. The vision was a blend of Western farm chic, with an elevated spin on a casual bonfire. The color palette was pulled directly from the citrus grove, incorporating warm oranges, soft greens, and earthy tones. The evening was filled with delicious food and craft cocktails, including a selection of the couple’s favorite drinks. Bluegrass music filled the air, creating a lively and inviting atmosphere. The dancing began under the stars, and everyone embraced the carefree spirit of the night, celebrating the couple’s love in a place that held such sentimental value and a rich family history.

The couple started day two of their wedding weekend with a fun and casual Friday morning pickleball gathering at Johns Island in Vero Beach. Surrounded by their bridal party and family, they served up bagels and mimosas, setting the tone for a relaxed and joyful day. The vibrant pink pickleball paddles, personalized for the bride and groom as “Mr.” and “Mrs..,” added a playful touch to the event. The guests enjoyed friendly matches on the courts, showcasing their competitive spirit while also basking in the beautiful Florida sunshine. It was a perfect blend of sport and celebration, offering everyone a chance to connect and laugh.

The rehearsal dinner on Friday night at the Quail Valley River Club was an elegant affair, setting the stage for the wedding festivities. Guests gathered to enjoy a chilled seafood display before sitting down to a seated dinner. Toasts and heartfelt speeches filled the air as loved ones shared their stories and wishes for the couple. The tables were decorated with stunning floral arrangements in shades of blue and white, creating a serene and sophisticated atmosphere that echoed the natural blues of the river and sky surrounding the River Club. The traditional feel of the decor, with its classic floral elements, harmonized beautifully with the serene waterfront setting. Wedgewood silhouettes were elegantly woven into the design, enhancing the timeless, sophisticated aesthetic. After the dinner, the bride and groom made their grand exit via a personalized Irish Rover, traveling to the groom’s family home for the post-toast celebration. The post-toast had an abundance of mini desserts and a creative pheasant groom’s cake, offering a playful touch to the night. Guests enjoyed beer, wine, and spicy margaritas while dancing to tunes from the DJ, socializing, and celebrating with the couple under the stars. The entire evening captured the perfect blend of elegance and fun, setting a joyful tone for the weekend ahead.

A Flower-Filled Celebration Where Every Detail Was Made for the People They Love Most

Our design vision was centered around incorporating color, flowers, and all of the people we love the most. I love anything colorful and have always loved flowers. I knew I wanted exaggerated florals for our wedding through both the ceremony and the reception. I also dreamed of having an outside ceremony with a dramatic aisle to meet Ben at the end. A lot of our design vision focused on our guests in the small details. We had so much fun writing notes to each of our guests for our “Favorite people” wall and helping design our wedding crest dance floor that we could all dance the night away on. Laurie’s team was amazing at perfectly capturing the magic of our vision through the final design!

Ben and I met on the first day of college when I knocked on his door. We became great friends in the first year of school, and our feelings for each other began to grow. Soon after we started dating, I knew Ben was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. About 6 years later, Ben and I took a trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, a very special place to Ben’s family. He took me to a scenic overlook at sunrise and asked me to marry him! It was the best feeling in the world, and it was the most special place to start our engagement!

Ben’s mom’s favorite color was yellow, and on the morning of our engagement, a yellow warbler visited Ben’s dad and sister as they anxiously awaited for us to get back to the house and celebrate. The warbler was a reminder to us that she was celebrating with us in Heaven, and it felt like the perfect way to include her in our day. We incorporated the yellow warbler in multiple ways through our wedding day so that we and everyone who missed her could feel her presence.

Custom Couture & Chic Details for a Garden Wedding with European Flair

The welcome dinner featured vibrant hues of an Arizona sunset – burnt orange, fuchsia, blush, and white. The garden-inspired wedding featured soft pastel hues – blue, blush, greens, and white. We envisioned a garden-inspired theme, filled with lush greenery, soft summer hues that gracefully transitioned into fall, and a touch of Mediterranean elegance. The goal was to create the feeling of an intimate Italian getaway, where nature and warmth intertwined effortlessly.

After Michael flew to Chicago to ask Alyssa’s parents for their blessing, he secretly planned a proposal. He invited Alyssa’s best friend and her fiancé from California for a weekend visit, pretending it was to celebrate her friend’s birthday. Dressed up for what she thought was a birthday dinner, we made a stop at Wonderspaces, the modern art museum where we’d shared one of our favorite dates. As we entered our favorite exhibit, the friends quietly slipped behind. Michael began talking about how much he loved her and how that moment marked when he knew he wanted forever. Then, he dropped to one knee, and photographers appeared to capture the magic. After the proposal, Michael revealed the real surprise—no birthday dinner, just an engagement party with 40 of their closest friends and family waiting to celebrate.

We wanted our wedding attire to be elegant, timeless, and full of personal touches that reflected our personalities.. We included family heirloom jewelry, designer shoes with fun patterns that went with our wedding theme, and a special sapphire “something blue” pin that Alyssa’s best friend of 20 years gave her. Alyssa flew back and forth to Chicago to meet her mom and try on dresses in the city, and when she found the one—a stunning floral lace gown—we got to partially custom-design it! Every trip to Chicago was filled with fun moments—after the dress fittings, Alyssa and her mom would have lunch dates in the city, and of course, they’d always include her dad and siblings, making each trip even more memorable.

Guests were greeted with prickly pear margaritas at cocktail hour, which paid a nod to their destination wedding and matched the colors of the sunset during cocktail hour.

Cart Blanche Designs brought it all to life with effortlessly romantic arrangements that captured the feeling of an elevated Mediterranean garden.

From the welcome party to the final dance, every design element was chosen with intention. Lounge spaces were thoughtfully styled with plush seating and layered textures, inviting guests to relax and connect throughout the celebration. Customizable pieces from Prim Rentals—like the personalized bar fronts—added a bespoke touch that tied back to the overall garden aesthetic. [/field]

Alyssa’s Monique Lhuillier wedding dress and veil were partially custom-designed just for her, making them even more special. The delicate lace and intricate details felt like they were made for the moment.[/field]

A Wedding Photographer’s Guide on How to Pose for Wedding Photos

On your wedding day, the last thing you want is to worry about minute details for getting the dreamy, romantic shots.  Investing in the right photographer will definitely ensure that you have the wedding photos of your dreams, but is there a way to enhance your posing for these images? The answer is a resounding yes, and I am sharing with you the same exact tips I share with my couples before their wedding day! 

Trust Your Wedding Photographer

This likely goes without saying, but I want you to understand that none of this works if you do not trust your wedding photographer.  Trust that they understand the perfect light, location, and styling to give you the images you crave.  Trust their process, and trust their art. You will be pleasantly surprised with the result when you allow your photographer the space to just create. 

Get Cozy

One of my biggest rules of posing, is that unless I give you instructions not to, you need to get cozy with your partner! This means a lot of touching, getting nice and close, and finding moments of comfort next to your partner. Hands and arm holding are an easy way to stay cozy.  If you’re nervous, let that hand/arm hold be your space of comfort. You might feel better even angling your body closer to your partner to create closeness.  This is not to say you should be completely on top of each other, but more that you want to have moments of affection, closeness, space for intimate moments to create themselves. 

Don’t Over Practice

Something I hear from time to time is that couples will practice everything from their smile, to how they walk, to how they stand in their images.  Personally, I just do not find this necessary.  Your photographer should be well adept in posing you in the most flattering way for you and your partner, just trust that.  There are a few posing tips you can definitely practice – kissing with your eyes closed, lightly kissing, and okay, let’s be honest, it’s okay to practice a few smiles as well. Just do not let it consume you to the point that you have stressed yourself out over it! 

Let Love Lead the Way

At the end of the day, your wedding day photos should reflect who you are as individuals and as a couple – a celebration of your union.  Let that love shine through your photos. To reflect their heritage and surprise their guests, the couple incorporated a dynamic Lion Dance performance immediately following the ceremony. This moment not only energized the celebration but also served as a joyful escort to the dinner reception, infusing tradition with a modern, unexpected twist. Personal touches were woven throughout the design, including a nod to the couple’s love for skiing. The seating chart featured custom gondola-shaped beer openers, thoughtfully designed by Shimmer + Stain. These creative favors were both meaningful and functional, adding a playful yet curated element to the overall aesthetic. The reception was nothing short of magical. Cascading floral installations brought drama and movement to the space, particularly at the bar, where blooms poured down in a luxurious display. Ayana captivated guests with three outfit changes, each more glamorous than the last, while James took the stage for a surprise musical performance that left a lasting impression. Under a canopy of lights and flowers, guests celebrated with joy, dancing late into the night in a space that was designed to feel as lively, loving, and unforgettable as the couple themselves.

Ayana arrived at the same pre-game with a bag of Cheetos and a box of Oreos (only gal+snacks). They mingled amongst the new friends, and soon it was time for everyone to migrate to the main party. They kept losing each other in the crowd, but every time they found each other, James was snacking on the Cheetos that Ayana brought. Ayana caught on that something was up with this dude.

A Seaside Celebration With Tennis, Tequila, and Timeless Romance at the Ritz-Carlton Bacara

Katrina and Zach’s wedding weekend at the Ritz-Carlton Bacara featured a blend of relaxed elegance and vibrant fun. The welcome party had a beach club-inspired vibe with tropical flair, neutral tones, and pops of green, while the wedding day was a fairytale by the sea with a focus on timeless portraits and a magical reception. The weekend also included a Tennis & Tequila event to kick off the celebrations with friendly competition and a casual atmosphere. Overall, the vision was a luxurious, personalized, and joyous celebration with unique touches like a “shopping experience” for guests and a disco-themed after-party. Fun fact: Katrina and Zach met on September 22, 2015, and got married on September 21st, 2024

It was in Berkeley that Zach proposed to Katrina. She had already (not so subtly) sent him pictures of rings, but knowing she hated surprises, he let her know that he planned to propose during August or September. So when he told her to “be ready,” she made sure to have her hair and nails done. What followed was the best couple of weeks of her life: they went out to dinners, brunches, concerts, and more. There were a couple of times she was sure he was going to do it, but she never really saw it coming. One morning, he told her they were going to brunch. She got dressed, did her hair, and made sure her nails were done (just in case!). He took her to the Berkeley Botanical Gardens because he “wanted to show her a cool view” (he did this a lot, so it wasn’t a dead giveaway). Then he got down on one knee and proposed. As it turns out, Zach had been planning everything down to the second. While he was proposing, a photographer was hiding and capturing the most perfect photos. Immediately after the proposal, his and her siblings jumped out of the bushes, popped champagne, and congratulated them. Then (the surprises were not over!), they went to brunch, only for her sister to make up some excuse for why they needed to go back to their house. When she arrived back at their house, their entire backyard had been decorated, and their friends (most of whom had flown in) were all waiting there to celebrate with them.

She also prepared multiple styled wedding looks throughout the day with help from her stylist, Jacqueline Wlodarczyk, including a Lili Hod gown, with a detachable train that she ripped off during her first dance, and her mother’s Vera Wang wedding dress, which she had shortened for the afterparty. Fun fact: While she was a student at UCLA, Katrina interned for Vivienne Westwood—in the very office where she later worked with the team to design the gown of her dreams. Katrina wore a printed Monique Lhuillier ready-to-wear gown, tailored into a midi dress for the welcome dinner.

Katrina’s maid of honor, her sister Annalise Froelich, wore a pink Alexia María gown, while the rest of the bridesmaids donned floral Show Me Your Mumu dresses in varying shades of pink that beautifully complemented Katrina’s bridal look. Later in the evening, as Katrina changed into her mom’s vintage Vera Wang gown—shortened for the occasion—the bridesmaids slipped into fun, flirty mini dresses from Show Me Your Mumu. It made for quite the entrance at the after-party. For her bridesmaid gifts, Katrina personalized classic L.L. Bean Boat and Tote bags with each bridesmaid’s name embroidered on the front. Inside, she curated a selection of her favorite beauty essentials, including ethically sourced jade rollers from EcoTools, her go-to makeup brushes from Real Techniques, Drunk Elephant’s Glycolic Serum, Saltair’s Pink Beach body wash (her favorite scent), and more thoughtful goodies.

For the Welcome Dinner, Zach styled a Banana Republic suit with a thrifted vintage ’90s Tommy Bahama shirt, finishing the look with handmade huaraches from his favorite local shop in San Diego. The “shop” was called Ricciardulli Surf Co.—a special nod to the fact that Katrina and Zach met at the UCLA activities fair, where Zach was working the surf booth as the club’s treasurer.
