From Greg Finck… Maïly’s boudoir session was realized some weeks ago in Provence, in the stunning venue La Bastide de Marie. A soft and delicate session in a low-light pastel room, enhancing Maïly’s natural beauty. This was my first, but not last, collaboration with the wonderful videographer Gabriel Menassier (MG Image), whose breathtaking video is included. I also had the pleasure to be assisted by Benjamin Barlatier for a great team work coordinated by La Fabrique à Rêves.

Bright & Cheery Nursery

What happens when a stylist and designer has a whole new room to decorate in the house? Pure nursery magic, of course! Ann-Marie dreamed up a bright, happy space for her daughter-to-be filled with colorful DIYs and fabulous thrift finds, and the results couldn’t be prettier. Even more photos of Ann-Marie’s radiant glow and darling nursery details from Sorella Muse Photography in the gallery!

From Sorella Muse Photography: Ann-Marie is a freelance designer, crafter, and stylist based in Pasadena who runs the charming blog Ann-Marie Loves. She and her husband John are expecting their first child, a little girl, this July! With her passion for great design, flea markets, and thrifting, it’s no surprise that the nursery is filled with thoughtful vintage furniture and decor that’s rounded out by pieces from every modern girl’s go-to stores: Anthropologie, Target, and Ikea. And as a DIY maven, there had to be some handmade projects to fill the space with love, like the pretty woven wall hanging.

After taking some of Ann-Marie’s maternity portraits at the lovely home she shares with her husband John, we set out to walk around their neighborhood, down Green Street and then to the Pasadena City Hall at sunset. Ann-Marie and John are high school sweethearts who have been together for nearly 10 years, and it’s easy to see the love, stability, and ease between them, and how ready and joyful they are to become parents!

Bridal Trends with Monte of Say Yes to the Dress!

I’ll be the first to admit I have a slight Say Yes to the Dress obsession. The decisions, the drama and gowns get me every time and today, lovelies, we’re in for a real treat. SYTTD Atlanta’s own Monte Durham is popping by to talk bridal trends, and you better believe we’re all ears. Read on for Monte’s trend-talk and don’t miss new episodes of Say Yes to the Dress Atlanta through Friday, August 8th!

One | Soft flowing skirts

I’m seeing this trend more and more with weddings moving to the barns and beaches. Brides are looking for soft easy mobility and comfort in their gowns.

Two | Rising necklines with netting/lace overlays over sweetheart styles

A new trend that is truly on the rise. Brides are looking to step up their game to look different and have more coverage and support.

Three | Sashes are back from accents colors to bling belts

Color is one of many ways a bride can stand out on her wedding day.

Four | Less beading – more embroidery and texture

As we all know simplicity is the best, and brides are taking note as well. Gowns with light trim and embroidery are now gracing the runway and aisles..a little bit of bling can go a long way.

Five | Headbands and halos

Every bride will have a circle of brilliance in their hair. With bridal hair having a more relaxed feel with soft curls, braids and half up and down, a headband or halo helps keep hair in place while adding a bit of bling and style to their big day and night.

From the Bride-To-Be: We actually met 10 years ago in high school! Brenton is Australian and his high school rugby team came to stay with our high school rugby team. Obviously all of the girls in the school went crazy for boys with accents! Brenton stayed with one of my friends so we saw each other frequently throughout the week his team was in town! The night before the entire team left someone from our school threw a party – on a school night so I of course wasn’t allowed to go. My girlfriends weren’t pleased I wasn’t going to be there so we devised a plan – the girls would wait in their car half a block away from my house at 11pm and I would sneak out the bedroom window. Needless to say it worked and we had our first kiss! ha! We exchanged email addresses and went our separate ways.

We ended up staying in each other lives for 5 years because a few of his high school friends ended up going to UVic. Although we didn’t end up ever seeing each other we did have a huge group of mutual friends. After I was finished university I decided to go back packing across Australia with a girlfriend. I arrived in Sydney an hour before her (why we were on separate flights, I don’t remember). I waited and waited and she never showed up – it turns out her flight was cancelled due to snow in Vancouver. I didn’t want to stay in Kings Cross by myself for the first few nights so I decided to call Brenton. He picked me up half an hour later and let me stay at his apartment. We’ve been together since! I stayed in Australia for nearly 3 years and he moved back to Canada with me in May 2011. Funny how things work out!

Intimate Alexandria, VA Wedding at the Morrison House

I may sound like a broken record, but intimate weddings are my absolute favorite. They warm my heart right up and make me feel like a part of all the pretty. This beauty photographed and designed by Sweet Root Village is the perfect example, and is proof that intimate doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style. I would go as far to say it makes it even more chic. See why here.

From the Bride…Kyle and I chose to have an intimate wedding ceremony and reception with 20 of our closest family members and friends. I completely fell in love with the Morrison House in Old Town Alexandria because of its Downton Abbey charm and sophistication. We wanted our guests to feel as if they were attending a fabulous dinner party while there happened to be a wedding beforehand. We decided on a long King’s Table filled with romantic white candles, a soft color pallet of flowers and gold finishes throughout.

The inspiration for my dress was that it needed to simply flow. At Soliloquy Bridal Couture I found a simple Lazaro special occasion gown that I had custom altered to have a dramatic drape on the back. The draping was remarkable work! I received so many wonderful compliments about my wedding dress. What really made this day superb were our vendors who made the wedding a complete breeze while we carried on without a worry in the world. Specifically, our florist and photographer, who is one of Kyle and I’s incredibly talented, creative, and downright remarkable friend, Rachel Bridgwood of Sweet Root Village. Rachel made my pre-wedding jitters disappear simply with her smile and calming personality. The ceremony and reception went by so smoothly. Our guests were having a lovely time, the food was fabulous and the décor was beyond gorgeous. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day!

We wanted our parting gifts for our guests to be special and to show how much we love and appreciate them. Our wedding favors were all homemade and handpicked, from spicy pickles to strawberry jam. We put our hearts into it! And now we have weekly requests from friends and family to continue canning for them. If I could sum up our wedding in the fewest words possible I would choose: sophisticated, fabulous, intimate, and over the moon happy!

Traditional Meets Modern Ballroom Wedding

Traditional with a twist is one of my favorite ways to say “I do.”  And this stunning Chicago affair?  It’s delivering the aforementioned and then some with a crazy cool mix of gorgeous details.  I’m talking vibrant blooms from Stephanie Robinson, a ballroom decked out in chevron and gold (my fave) and a world of pretty captured by Two Birds Photography.  See it all here.

From The Bride… Our theme was ““Our Story”.”  It was inspired by the story of our love. It stemmed from a book that I had created for an anniversary gift for Nick. The book was in the form of a chapter book and it contained all of the messages that Nick and I wrote to each other via Facebook, mail and e-mail when we were dating long distance (Chicago to New Orleans). To incorporate this theme on our big day, I included this book along with the following: our love letters and envelopes, a mailbox for our gifts, cocktail napkins that included funny stories of our relationship and chapters for table numbers. We also searched through old photo albums and found a wedding portrait of each of our family members, as they are the beginning of our story. We had them all hanging by a string by our guestbook. This was a surprise and our guests loved seeing their very own picture celebrated on our day. My absolute favorite tie into our theme was Nick and my silhouettes on the menu cards. I believe that these little details made our ceremony unique.

As we were planning our wedding, Nick and I both found it important that our wedding day represented both of us as individuals as well as together as a couple. Nick knew how important it was to include all of the little details that described my personality. Confetti polka dots, chevron groomsmen socks, pink and orange color scheme, and way too many crafts was a perfect representation of me on our wedding day. Nick’’s past history was included in a special New Orleans dance. The entire bridal party was given beads to pass out to the wedding guests. Nick and I were given big, heavy beads to wear and Mardi Gras masks. The second line song filled the room as we entered the dance floor. I twirled a white umbrella and the crowd picked up napkins to spin around in circles. Soon enough, everyone was on their feet participating in this New Orleans wedding tradition. We loved that everyone was so excited as they took part in this unique twist to our reception.

My favorite part of the day was walking down the aisle. Nick and I chose not to see each other before the ceremony so there was much anticipation for this moment. I remember standing in the bridal room at the church feeling a little nervous, but mostly excited. It was all a little fuzzy as they called us to line up. Soon enough, our bridal party had entered the church and it was just my dad and I. I begged him to tell me a joke, as both of us were having a hard time keeping it together. It was finally our cue and in that moment I felt the true meaning of marriage, forgetting all of the stress and crazy wedding plans we had been focused on within the past year. It was a crazy feeling walking down the aisle. I remember being surrounded by all of our family and friends in the church, but feeling like it was just Nick and I alone. I remember looking right into his eyes the entire way down. I can vaguely remember my dad holding my arm tightly and the faint sound of a violin playing Canon in D. I held back tears of happiness as I approached Nick. Hugging my dad was an overwhelming feeling, as he put Nick’s and my hand together, giving us his blessing to begin our life together. As the ceremony went on I was able to sneak a peek at the packed church of people we loved so dearly. It was an overwhelming feeling to have them witness this special day in our life and I felt so grateful. I will always remember Nick’’s smile as he saw me for the first time. In the end, it was worth every minute of waiting.

Nick and I met in confirmation class freshman year of high school, so it was important to us both that we were to be married within a church, as our faith is important to us. We picked St. Clement Catholic Church in Chicago, because it is the church we attend every Sunday. We also love the architecture and beauty of this breathtaking church.

I knew walking into the Woman’s Club of Evanston that the venue was perfect for us. Nick and I knew all along that we wanted a different venue, one that was more unique. The Woman’s Club had everything we were searching for and more. The beautiful chandeliers, the arched ceilings in the ballroom and the character of each room allowed me to envision us there on our wedding night. My sister told me as we left that she knew by the smile on my face that I had found the venue I had been searching for.

Stephanie Robinson was our florist for the event. I was referred by a friend to use Stephanie and could not have picked a better person to create the exact vision I had hoped to achieve. Stephanie works freelance so my experience was different than going into a flower shop and looking through a binder to pick the exact arrangements for the big day. Instead, Stephanie and I met over coffee and I explained to her how much I loved flowers, my way too many ideas from Pinterest, and a budget to stay within. As we talked, she helped me finally pinpoint my style and color scheme (any bride will contest how much harder of a decision this is than it truly seems) and gave me so many ideas of her own. It was cool because I felt an instant connection with Steph. I realized instantly that she was so similar to me; we shared the same style, personality and passion for flowers. I told her leaving Starbucks that day that I trusted her 100% and that she could run with my color scheme and surprise me. It was a weight off of my shoulders to allow her to be creative and it felt great to cross something off the never-ending wedding to do list. The moment she knocked on my room at The Drake Hotel was one of my favorite wedding day memories. I didn’t know what my flowers were going to look like until the day they were in my arms and I had been waiting months to see what she had picked out for me. I had tears of happiness in my eyes when I saw the vibrant colors and unique styles. Not only did she create perfect bouquets but she also transformed my venue into a floral masterpiece. I could not have even envisioned more perfect flowers than what Stephanie picked and designed for our big day.

J&L Catering catered our event at The Woman’s Club. We worked with Jim Bailey and he was absolutely phenomenal. He was not only responsible for creating a fabulous menu that worked within our budget but also served as our wedding planner during the entire planning process. It was such a wonderful feeling to know that I could email him at any time of the day or night and hear back from him within the hour with an answer to so many of my wedding questions. Our menu included a strawberry and almond poppyseed salad, chicken and salmon with a lemon crème sauce and risotto paired with seasonal vegetables.

I can’t even express in words how wonderful our experience was with Two Birds Photography. Jake and Jennifer are not only incredibly talented but such a joy to work with. Finding the perfect photographer was the first thing on my wedding to do list, as I believe that the photos are the only thing you will have forever. It was such a relief when my husband and I met Jake at a coffee shop because I knew within the first five minutes that he would be our perfect wedding photographer. Nick and I had a blast with Jake as he shot our engagement pictures. We felt so comfortable with him and were laughing the entire time. We were amazed at his artistic eye and how well he was able to truly capture our love. On our wedding day, Jake was there early to shoot pictures of the landscape of our hotel and the amazing architecture of Chicago. Our entire bridal party raved about how much fun and how professional Jake was on the trolley with us, as he was able to capture our trip from the city to Evanston. Our families and our wedding guests had nothing but amazing things to say about him as well. When we received our wedding slideshow, I couldn’t help but cry with happiness. I felt like I was reliving the day all over again. I was so overjoyed at how well Jake was able to capture every emotion on our wedding day. Two Birds Photography was everything we could have asked for and way, way more.

We hired Zach Moss from Boom Entertainment as our DJ. Zach was amazing! He was able to mix three songs into one and kept the dance floor packed the entire night. I danced with family members I had never even seen dance before! I credit Zach for the amount of fun everyone had that night. Nick and I still love to look at all of the dancing photos to see everyone have the time of their life.

Nick and I consider ourselves foodies, so when it was time for our cake tasting we were really excited. We picked a bakery on the street we live on to try out first, thinking we would try out a few bakeries in Chicago. We had a wonderful experience working with Judy. She sat down with us and explained each flavor combination. The cake was amazing! She also hand sketched my perfect cake: gold chevron, polka dots and pink peonies. We picked a lemon and raspberry flavor for Nick’s half and a double chocolate mousse for mine. It was perfect and we didn’t even have to look anywhere else.

I found my dress at Volle’s Bridal in Lake Zurich and it was designed by Pronovias. Dress shopping was really exciting at first, but after searching at seven bridal stores, I was beginning to feel frustrated. I had been told by many people that I would cry when I have found the perfect dress. I kept waiting for this to happen, and when it hadn’t, I knew I didn’t want to settle. I finally brought my dad with me to Volle’s and when I put this particular dress on, he began to cry. At that moment, I knew it was perfect and tears streamed down my face too. I loved that the dress was vintage with a twist of modern style, a perfect mix of sassy and classy.

The biggest piece of advice as you plan your wedding is to remember that the day is about you and the love you and your fiancé share. Although it all can be very stressful at times, take time to go on dates and talk about things other than the wedding. Also, do as many DIY crafts in advance, if you plan to go this route. I was so pressed for time that I had my dad executing my last minute crafts in order to achieve the theme and style I was going for!

Make sure to take a moment to step back and admire everyone celebrating your big day. Nick and I snuck on stage for a few minutes and it was such an overwhelming feeling to see all of our favorite people having such a wonderful time celebrating us. We squeezed each other’s hands as we felt so blessed to have everyone there on the most important day of our life.

From Phoebe Lo EventsEscaping the bustling city of Toronto to the northern regions of the metropolis, one would venture through scenic landscapes that became the drawing forces of many prominent paintings that we now enjoy.

Brushed behind the rolling pastures and concealed by cast iron gates lies a secret little garden known as Pathways to Perennials. The luscious estate was carefully crafted by a pair of gardeners that dedicated the landscapes to their newborn child. Developed over the course of a decade, the gardeners envisioned that Pathways to Perennials would be the grounds to which their daughter and her loved one would lovingly cast the oath of marriage upon each other.

The meandering pathways signify the course of a lifetime’s journey, and one would find the hidden treasures among this delicate route, whether it be a bunch of French garden roses or a gazebo with welcoming breezes and a seat for two.

This styled wedding photo shoot plays with a classic European motif that is subtly captured through the accents of landscape painting and watercolours. The concept of romance is drawn upon the unity of these key elements and positioned upon the lush backdrop that embodies the perfect solution of vintage and elegance.

The colour palette of this photo shoot features the sweet hues of mint green that is juxtaposed by pale peach, and lightly tinted by plush gold details.

The bride dons a floor length Alfred Sung gown crafted with French lace and crystal beading. The sweetheart table setting showcases an arrangement of century old Queen Anne porcelain dinnerware paired with Cellini Romanesque golden cutlery. A garden terrarium plays the role of a confetti station, which is composed of found colour pencil studs contained in antique medicine bottles. Garden roses, peonies, berries and greens embrace the floral centrepiece. Perched against its floral counterpart is the hand painted watering can that deposits varying paintbrushes at the disposal of the couple for spontaneous renderings upon the canvas table linens.

The painter’s lounge allowed for a creatively exquisite couple’s retreat graced by hand dyed pillows, sweet aperitifs, and a vibrant palette of petite hors d’oeuvres. Billowing away under the uncanny cluster of wooden poles exists the sweets table blooming with decadent desserts intended to charm with luxurious nodes of floral and pastels.

Although the gardeners’ daughter has embarked on a new journey of her own, the pathways and perennials remain as a symbol of the love stories that once took place at these very gardens.

As our production team wisps away back to our individual cavities of the cityscape, we take away a special experience from this project venue. An experience that encapsulates an unparalleled level of love and partnership that we shall have the luxury to cherish for a long time coming.

Romantic Bridal Shoot in Florence at Villa Di Maiano And Fattoria Di Maiano

I don’t have many regrets when it comes to my personal wedding, but when I see a shoot like this one from FunkyBird Photography, I so wish I did a bridal shoot. Mostly if I was able to fly to Florence for it. Florence or not, this beauty styled by Trouwen In Toscane is the prettiest inspiration if you are lucky enough to do a bridal shoot, and you can see all the reasons why here

From FunkyBird PhotographyOn a lovely April spring day we had the privilege to do this inspired bridal shoot. We had been walking around with the idea for a while so we were very exited when we finally made all the arrangements and got everybody on board for this collaboration.

The location is one of Tuscany’s pearls. Villa di Maiano is situated just below Fiesole on the outskirts of Florence, Italy and from there you have breathtaking views on the surrounding hills. The staff was just wonderful and we were so lucky to have Alexandra around helping us.

We wanted to create a very romantic look and with the help of Mrs Moradei from Morbar bridal atelier we chose two magnificent handcrafted pieces that fit our model Letizia perfectly. Ombretta and Catarina completed the look with two different hairstyles and make up to suit the various locations we wanted to shoot.

A stunning bridal bouquet with soft peach and golden garden roses. Lots of greenery and colorful poppies for the table setting to give just that bit of spark and playfulness, FunkyBird knows how to make flowers speak romance.

The girls from Trouwen in Toscane have definitely made this a unique experience which we hope to repeat again soon.

Beautiful Budget Friendly Wedding

This is the type of wedding that really puts a smile on your face.  A drop-dead gorgeous, budget friendly affair dreamt up by a darling bride and groom who happen to know a thing or two about putting on a super sweet affair. Think an intimate morning ceremony followed by champagne brunch reception filled with travel-inspired details and vibrant hues.  See it all captured by Two One Photography right here.

From Two One Photography… Lindsay and Tom are extremely cute together and very creative. They have a wonderful and funny love story. The two unexpectedly met each other at the Denver Cruisers Wednesday night pub crawl and it was love at first sight. In their mind there was no question they were right for each other. So they decided to have a small morning wedding and celebrate by leaving the following day on a European Cruise. The two were married at the beautiful Chatfield Botanical Gardens. They had a vintage theme with teal, orange and pink pops of color. Since they were going on a trip around Europe the theme of the wedding was travel. They brought a globe to point out where they were going and vintage suitcases. It was such a fun day to be a part of.

From The Bride… I feel very blessed to have grown up on a farm/ranch here in Colorado. Although I’m a city girl now, and live over four hours away from my family’s farm, it’s still a very important part of my life. When looking for a wedding venue, we wanted to stay close to our home in Denver, but wanted that country atmosphere I grew up knowing. With our first steps into The Botanic Gardens at Chatfield we knew this was where we would be married. This location is a working farm located on the outskirts of Denver in Deer Creek Canyon. Lush scenery, walking trails, an old red barn, a turn-of-the century farm house with wrap-around porch, and the vista of the Rocky Mountain foothills are just a few of the perks we took advantage of on our special day.

The inspiration for our wedding day is a map print on our wall that reads, “Let’s run away to a beautiful place.”  I had purchased it a year prior to remind us to always keep travel at the top of our bucket list. We have singly and collectively been all over the world; our mutual love of travel is one of the many reasons we fell in love. To signify this we used vintage travel themed items such as globes, suitcases and cameras, and mini flag printed pinwheels as decorations. A map’s colors of orange, blue, yellow, brown, pink and white provided the color palate.

It was important to us to keep our wedding small and intimate. Our 26 guests included immediate family and close friends. Most of our family members participated in the ceremony as we chose not to have attendants. Instead, two of our nephews carried a burlap sign that read “Uncle Tom, Here Comes Your Bride” and another two walked our sweet dog, Bea, down the aisle. During the ceremony our older niece and nephew read Taylor Mali’s poem, “How Owning a Dog is like Falling in Love.”  Our mothers were both included as well; mine offering the opening prayer and Tom’s presenting our rings. Tom’s brother-in-law, Scott, officiated.

An amazing highlight of our day was the acoustic trio that played during the ceremony and for our reception dance. The bass player for HomeSlice, Peter, has been my friend for over 10 years and I have been going to listen to the band for just as long. We asked the trio to sing non-traditional songs like Bob Marley’s “Is This Love” and, The Lumineers’ “Ho Hey.”

My gift to my husband? “His and Hers” Oregon State Beavers cake toppers. Tom played football at OSU in his college years and is still a big supporter of the team. He was excited to have this important part of him included in our day. To make it even more special for him, I asked the designer to include a football with #71, his team number.

Planning a budget friendly wedding can be challenging, but also rewarding in many ways. My favorite purchase was my dress that I found in the very back corner of a bridal consignment store! With the help of a very talented seamstress, we were able to add Italian lace to one shoulder and the result was simple, breathtaking and unique. A pair of favorite teal shoes right out of my closet added a pop of color at the hem. I stayed under my $500 budget and had money left over to spend on other areas. Other ways we saved money:

-By having a morning wedding with a champagne brunch reception we were able to save on the costs of our venue.

-The invitations we loved were found on Etsy, but the price was too high. We contacted the designer who sold us the pdf file for an affordable price and our invitations were printed at a local print shop.

-My mother loaned us her cake stands and glass trays to add interest to our cake table – perfect for our budget-cutting decision to skip the usual expensive cupcakes and instead serving mini-bundt cakes and French macaroons as desserts.

-We used our own collection of vintage globes, suitcases, tins, and vases for decorations.

-As a wedding gift to us, my very talented friend crafted both the burlap and wood signs that we used in our ceremony.

-In lieu of using a caterer, we arranged for Udi’s (a local deli) to deliver artisan sandwiches and sides.

-I made the tissue paper napkin rings and our dog’s flower halo.

-The burlap overlays (on white table linens) were borrowed from a coworker who had recently married.

-Because we were married on a Friday morning, our photographer’s prices were lower than they would be for a weekend wedding.

-Two girlfriends and my two sisters helped with the set-up and decorating.

-Small glass vases and mason jars filled with mixed cut flowers served as decorations and favors for our guests.

Although we were on a tight budget, we didn’t have to skimp on any of the details that were important to us. It may take a little more planning to save money, but if you open your mind to different ideas and ways of doing things you can still have the wedding of your dreams! Because Tom and I stayed within our budget, we were able to spend the first three weeks as husband and wife traveling through Europe!

Elegant County Club Wedding in Nashville

Prepare yourself, lovelies, there are cute details at every turn in these Nashville nuptials. But then again, expect nothing less when you have the bridal genius of planner Elizabeth James on your side, and a close friend like Muna Abboud (of Muna Couture) to custom make a perfect-looking Alençon lace wedding gown. There’s even more beauty to behold thanks Austin Gros’s favoring lens in the gallery here.

From the Bride… My husband Casey and I met in Nashville over six years ago, a few weeks before I was planning to move to New York City. Somehow that didn’t stop us and we dated long distance — with frequent trips between New York and Nashville — for almost three years before Casey (finally) made the move to New York City in 2010. He proposed on December 31st at The Ford Plantation outside of Savannah, Georgia, with my family waiting in the wings to celebrate.

Although we are based in NYC, Nashville will always hold a special place in our hearts. It’s where I was born and raised; where Casey bought his first house and laid down his roots; where our sweet dog Munson was born; where we first met ; and where we fell in love. Nashville is where our story began and we wanted the city to play a central role in our wedding day. We knew that we’d have a large number of out of town guests and our top priority was sharing the extraordinary city of Nashville – and all that it has to offer — with each of our guests. Simply put, we wanted everyone to walk away with a new found love and appreciation for Music City USA.

We included all out-of-town guests in the rehearsal dinner on Friday night, which was held at the Loveless Barn, a music venue that sits back behind the world-famous historic Loveless Café. We served a family style dinner of fried chicken, skillet corn, green beans and biscuits and hired a young, local bluegrass band The HogSlop String Band to provide the music. There were toasts and tears and lots of laughs. It was the perfect warm up for the big event on Saturday!

Casey and I both value tradition and family above all else and we wanted our wedding to reflect those sacred bonds (we also wanted to rip it up on the dance floor…but we’ll get to that later). We chose to be married at Westminster Presbyterian Church, which is where my parents were married in 1980 and my sister was married in October 2012.

It was important to me that I felt comfortable and like myself on my wedding day. With that in mind, I enlisted my talented friend and fellow Nashvillian, Muna Abboud, to create a Muna Couture original dress for me. The sleeveless gown made of Alençon lace was V-necked with a fitted bodice, soft flare at the bottom and cathedral train. My veil, also made by Muna, was bordered in the same Alençon lace. Tucked inside my dress was a piece of lace from Casey’s mother’s wedding dress from 1952. Casey’s mom was very special woman – she raised my husband to be a man of integrity and in the years that I knew her, she always treated me like one of her own daughters. She passed away two years ago from a rare lung disease and we miss her everyday. I wanted to have a piece of her with me as I said my vows to her son. It turns out that I didn’t need anything tangible to hold on to, we felt her presence gathered around us in sweet mystery throughout the entire ceremony. At the moment when we began saying our vows, a bright ray of sunshine shone through the windows of the sanctuary filling the room with an abundance of love. I know it was my new mother-in-law smiling down on us.

Casey, always the style hound, wore a bespoke tuxedo made by Bindle and Keep of New York City. My eight bridesmaids wore rose gold gowns by Joanna August, a talented designer who I later discovered is married to a work colleague of mine.

The reception was held at Belle Meade Country Club, a place where I have celebrated many happy occasions with my family – baptisms, birthdays, marriages and graduation celebrations. Casey and I both love being outdoors and we wanted the event to feel natural, green and lush. Garlands of magnolia at the entrance welcomed guests to the reception and the outdoor terrace was transformed into an intimate dance floor under the stars — alternating magnolia garlands with etched glass hurricanes and hanging lanterns all around.

Casey and I both love to cook and we spent quite a bit of time deciding on the menu, which ultimately included a roster of our favorite foods: heirloom tomato salad, smoked pork tenderloin and shrimp and grits. We planned a number of Southern touches for the reception, including a bacon and bourbon bar (which was a big hit among the NYC set). Late-night treats of cheeseburger sliders and house made potato chips made their way around the dance floor later.

The Atlanta All-Stars Band brought down the house with a set list filled exclusively with Casey and my favorite old-school 60’s and 70’s songs, kicking things off with a first dance to Van Morrison’s “Crazy Love” and ending with “September” by Earth, Wind and Fire. “Do you remember, the 21st night of September…” Needless to say, we danced the night away.

As with all special days, there were a few mishaps: the most memorable being when Casey’s best man, Bob, misplaced my wedding band and spent several minutes searching for it in the middle of the ceremony. Luckily, Casey happened to have a second, identical band hidden in his pocket that he was planning to give me as a wedding gift that we were able to use during the ceremony. And lucky for Bob, he ultimately found the missing ring post-ceremony (it had fallen into a hidden pocket of his tuxedo pants). Our minister admitted to us later that in his entire 25 years of marrying couples, he had never witnessed a ring gone missing during the ceremony. It was certainly a moment we will always remember with a smile!

Romantic Beach Engagement

Let’s talk about the perfect ingredients for a drop-dead gorgeous e-session, shall we?  I’m talking a breathtaking sunset, a glistening beach and an adorable duo who know a thing or two about romantic moments, toes in the sand included.  Now add the crazy talented Lindsey Mae Child to capture every stunning moment and, voila!  An entire day of awesome.  Click here for sooo much more.

From Lindsey Mae Child… Liliana has been my friend for years, so when she asked me to do her engagement photos I didn’t hesitate to say yes. I love shooting just before sunset, and the beach was a perfect setting for their session. The warm glow set the tone for the evening, and I had so much fun capturing their sweetness. It was the first time I met Josh, and their love for one another is so evident from the photos that I was just constantly smiling.

From the Bride… When I first met Josh we immediately realized how much we had in common, but one of the things we both loved the most was the summer and especially the beach. Josh started taking me to South Shore Beach in Little Compton, RI our first summer together and I instantly fell in love. It became our favorite place to go, whether it be a relaxing drive in the fall or a beautiful beach day in the summer. There was just always something about going to South Shore that really brought us together and every time we went it was nothing short of special. That’s why when Josh proposed to me there on June 8th it left me speechless; it was undoubtably one of the most beautiful moments in both of our lives. So when it came time to pick a spot for our engagement photos, it wasn’t even a question. We chose the beach that has helped us create so many amazing memories for so many years and I’m sure we’ll continue to make more as time goes on.

Romantic-Rustic Old Edwards Inn Wedding

There’s no doubt that summer weddings are in full swing. But winter Brides? We’ve got you covered today with the sweetest winter soiree from We Tie The Knots, the event planner that just happens to be the beautiful Bride! From an adorable pup to the bridesmaids gorgeous plum Jenny Yoo dresses and all the twinkling lights in between, you can see every lovely bit right here. Callie, you’re stunning as ever, congrats love!

From We Tie The KnotsDavis and Callie tied the knot on December 29th 2012 in Highlands, NC and celebrated their marriage at The Farm at Old Edwards Inn with a magical winter wonderland reception…. A Rustic but elegant venue with a flare of glam! Callie is the founder of We Tie The Knots, a wedding planning company based in Atlanta, so it was a dream of hers to design everything from start to finish. The décor consisted of silver sequin linens, white faux snow around the centerpieces, mercury glass candle holders galore and much more. This winter wonderland wedding came to life as soon as the doors opened from the church after the ceremony, and the snow started falling! It was a cold one, but incredibly magical…every aspect of everything.

From The Bride…I am not that girl that had her wedding planned since a little girl, believe it or not! I think that’s the best way to go about it though because you don’t have your heart set on a specific month or season of the year, or a specific theme in mind. Between my wedding schedule and Davis’ schedule we were very limited to having the wedding in December. Most brides would say this is not the ideal month for their wedding, but in the end you have to remember you’re just finally getting to marry the man of your dreams!! So, December 29th it was… As soon as we picked the date, I immediately was thinking a dreamy “Winter Wonderland” wedding! Having worked at the majority of the wedding venues in Atlanta, I wanted to do something a little different, a destination wedding but not too far for everyone. That’s when I decided the Farm at Old Edwards Inn would be perfect. The glassed in Pavillion made for a beautiful outdoor view but still keeping everyone warm. This extraordinary venue is located in the beautiful mountains of Highlands, NC. which added to the theme that much more.

I must say the most enjoyable part of the entire planning process was designing the reception, but that’s my favorite part of helping every bride! The venue was rustic but very elegant and classy. With it being during the Holidays, I wanted to keep it a little more formal and romantic. One of my favorite aspects to the tablescapes would have to be the sequin table linens for our estate table… a huge thank you to La Tavola for helping make this dream come true! Another one of my favorite elements was adding snow around every centerpiece on each table, it just completed the theme so perfectly! Our florist, Boukates, went over and beyond everything I had ever dreamed of… she executed my ideas so perfectly and even added a few surprises. One of the most rewarding moments of this entire process was when my event coordinators brought myself, Davis and my sister into the reception before any of the guest came in. I literally just kept spinning circles, tearing up and looking at how perfectly everything came together. All of that hard work, phone calls with my sister and mom, inspiration, diagrams, directions, ideas and dreams all came to life immediately! I can literally say our entire wedding was a dream come true, all thanks to my incredible vendors that I put all of my trust into.

So with all of that said, the most magical day of my life happened on December 29th 2012, and I will never forget marrying the man of my dreams. This wasn’t all about the perfect décor and crazy weather… it was the fact Davis and I waited so patiently for four and a half years for this day. I hope every bride will keep this in the back of their mind, as the planning can get stressful at times. You only get to have one wedding day with this man, enjoy every moment of it and take it all in because it flies by way too fast. It was just a bonus how perfectly smooth my entire day went!

This day could not have been as perfect as it was without my amazing Matron of Honor (my sister/ wedding planner), parents and brother that immediately jumped in helping as soon as they all could. Not to mention I had 3 bridesmaids that are wedding planners, that helps a ton! A special thanks to our photographer, Mike Larson, for flying from California to share this special day with us and capture these incredible photos!

Design*Sponge Engagement Session Contest Winners

When Amy Azzarito Of Design Sponge and Jorge De La Barra offered a free, styled engagement session for SMPers, we of course jumped at the chance to get you pretties in front of the camera. Well, the winners have been chosen and their sessions have been captured, and it’s safe to say they are gorgeous. We’ve been waiting in the wings to share the pretty with you all, and couldn’t be more excited that today we can finally let you in on all the goodness right here

From Design SpongeCouple One This super active couple -Heidi and Scott actually met at a Crossfit gym and hit it off as friends. Eventually, they realized that they liked hanging out just as much outside the gym as inside. Scott crafted an elaborate and personal proposal. He dragged Heidi to the gym for a work out with their closest gym friends. At Crossfit, all the workouts are named and this one was called the “Amazing gRace” (a little pun on one of the exercises named Grace) and one of Heidi’s favorite shows.

Scott had involved all of their friends into the proposal and had planned the workout to be a scavenger hunt with different elements. After the first workout, the couple headed to their car and drove to the clue location “Go back to where it all began”. In the years, the couple had been dating, the gym moved locations. So they drove to the original location, Scott parked the ran, got out and ran around to the side of the building. He came back with a bright teal green Vespa. Heidi had wanted a Vespa for nearly a decade (since she lived across from a Vespa dealership) and was over the moon about her gift.

The couple road the scooter to the next location where they found their best friend pretending to be Phil from the Amazing Race complete with a bottle of champagne for their “Toast or Roast” road block. After they completed the activity, Heidi was sure that Scott was now about to propose, but instead they got instructions to drive to the closest trail for their next clue.

Once at the new location, Scott took out a small speaker and played their favorite song and the pair walked to where their friends were waiting. A friend acting as Phil continued with the game and told them that they were “the last team arrive, but it was a non-elimination leg”. Scott then turned and proposed to while their friends quietly walked back to a picnic area they had been busily setting up while the couple scooted around town.

When I heard this story, I knew that we had to include the Vespa in the couple’s engagement shoot. Heidi wore a dress from Lovely Bride and paper artist Michelle Bablo made a couple of fun signs for the couple. She also made some celebratory streamers for that all-important Vespa. The couple have two rescues dogs and they wanted to include one of them in the shoot so Homer joined us all at one of the spots that Heidi and Scott visit most summer weekends -the historic Nathan Hale house in Connecticut.

From Design Sponge...This pair was over-the-moon about the prospect of starting their life together so we shot their engagement in Prospect Park, which just happens to be right around the corner from their apartment. This park is an absolutely magical place to shoot and after a long winter indoors, it was just what the doctor ordered. We discovered new locations around every corner. The fantastic team from 2h flowers, toted buckets of flowers into the park, scouted out the perfect branch and created a little hanging flower backdrop. Emily, at Lael Cakes, made us a stunning cake for a picnic setup. And we had one final surprise for the couple – their favorite saying is “Jackpot”! (As in, I really hit the Jackpot when I found you.) So we enlisted Michelle Bablo to help us make a sign to celebrate the couple’s good fortune. What a fun magical day in a favorite Brooklyn spot.

Rustic

From the Bride… Coomzy wanted an outdoor wedding in the country and I wanted an indoor wedding in Melbourne, so we settled on a clearspan marquee at Collingwood Children’s Farm, which was the best of both worlds. We both like to party and have a good time, so we wanted to create a carefree and relaxed environment for our guests. The setting was very country and rustic but the styling was chic. We went for some amazing green succulents for the table centres mixed in with real pineapples. We did all of the styling ourselves (with help pulling it together on the day by Stylism) from painting each pot, to the kind of lights, to the style of bar – basically creating a venue from scratch which is an absolutely monumental task but well worth it in the end!

David and I both had seven of our friends to each to our houses on the morning to get ready. They were our unofficial bridal party – with us all day, but not with the same outfits! We had a Bedeken (a Jewish tradition where the groom checks his bride to make sure it’s the right person) to start our day. This was the first time we had seen each other in a week, so it was very emotional with tears of joy all round. The entire bridal party, with our immediate families, then headed to Collingwood Children’s Farm on a bus where we had some photos. David loves cars, so he organized a white 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air for me and my parents, which really set the tone for the day. An hour before our Chuppah (Jewish wedding ceremony) was to begin it started to pour with rain! We had factored in extreme heat in February, but not rain. It was a disaster and thank god I was hidden away in a room and David had to deal with making the call on whether to keep the ceremony outside or bring it into the marquee. We delayed the ceremony by 15 minutes and thankfully the rain cleared just in time for it to remain outdoors as we had imagined it. Rain on your wedding day is good luck, so they say! Cocktails and canapés were served right after the ceremony outside the open marquee and then the night began with the ‘hora’ – traditional Jewish dancing. This creates an amazing energy for the rest of the night, which was filled with some candid speeches, delicious food (catered by the absolutely amazing Fred + Ginger) and lots of dancing. We had DJ Mafia spinning tunes for us and her last track was the John Farnham classic “You’re The Voice” – it was epic!!

From Candice Benjamin PhotographyJenae + Lance wanted a laid back wedding with touches of simple elegance! They picked an amazing venue in Oak Glen called Serendipity Garden Weddings, with a fantastic view overlooking the inland empire.

One cute personalized detail that made an impact: Guests walked down a pathway to the ceremony site and could read their wedding vows with every step of the way. And once they reached the ceremony site they were greeted with soft white flowers and woven fans. They also placed personal touches all throughout the venue such as a memory table for Jenae’s dad, pictures of them throughout the years, favorite quotes on chalkboard signs, and their favorite signature cocktails at the bar.
