Our Dance and Play dress is a striking combination of pale pink linen and imported Swiss batiste. The garment recalls the Regency period with an Empire waist and a tea length and offers an understated charm that belies its intricate nature. The dress bodice and puff sleeves offer a field of granitos and French knots. Custom piping edges the bodice and the sleeve bands. The cream Swiss batiste band on the skirt is bordered by silk ribbon bands and features many different embroidery techniques such as Madeira appliqué, stumpwork needlelace, shadow work, French knots, bullion flowers and fine cotton floche, which depict Regency period children at play as illustrated in Kate Greenaway's books. The embroidery is hidden on the back with silk tulle. A silk ribbon is held in place by hand sewn bar tacks and can be tied either in the front or back. Self-covered buttons are added as a design accent while silk organza-covered snaps provide closure in the back. The dress bodice is lined with the pink linen and the skirt is lined with silk habutai.
