5 Rules for Spring Cleaning Your Closet
April 10, 2018
Now that spring is officially amongst us (even though the weather says different), it is the perfect time of the year to do a big cleaning and purge all the items that you haven’t touched in years. We're talking about those shoes that are collecting dust by the day or the shirts that are clogging up the closet. Just like retail therapy, cleaning out your closet can give you instant satisfaction and have a positive effect on your stress levels!
To help you through this cleaning process, we sat down with Brielle Buchberg and Lindsay Segal of Luxury Garage Sale (LGS). LGS is a leading authenticated online luxury consignment that helps people clean out their closets and sell their items for money in return. Buchberg and Segal provided us with five rules to make this process as seamless as possible:

If the tags are still on it and it’s been more than a few months since you bought it, then let’s be real -- you aren’t going to wear it.. Add it to the goodbye pile.

2. Unworn Items.

If you haven’t worn it in over a year, it is probably time for it to go. Yes, there is the occasional exception, such as that one gown that will definitely be worn again, but for the majority of your closet, this rule applies.

3. Damages.

If it has holes, stains or is over worn, then please just toss it!

4. Negative associations.

If there’s a bad memory attached to it, throw it away along with the memory.

5. Unrealistic Expectations.

You're not a baby, and your body and height most likely won't change dramatically. If you’re saving it for when you lose weight, gain weight, or grow five inches, it’s just taking up space.
At first, it might be frightening to see the number of pieces you have said goodbye to, but spring cleaning is a great way to start fresh and create new room in your closet. Luxury Garage Sale will even pick up your new or gently used items that you are getting rid of and help you sell them for money. Your closet and wallet will both win. Now there is no excuse to not go clean out your closet.
