Inspired By A Love of Baths and Really Good Brunch

This glowing mama-to-be is a girl after my own heart. A lover of baths, her friends dreamed up the perfect baby shower to pay homage to her affinity for a good soak. Brunch goodies, bath salt stations and the most fabulous shoulder corsage are all tucked inside this celebration designed by Sweet Root Village and captured by Angela Newton Roy Photography. And if that combo isn't gorgeous, we don't know what is.
“No half-heartedness and no worldly fear must turn us aside from following the light unflinchingly.” - J. R. R. Tolkien.

A quote that hints towards all the amazingness that encompasses our sweet friend, Joy. Always following the light, she is a beacon of love and fun and it was the greatest honor to design and plan a baby shower to celebrate her and her little babe.
First things first, we knew that the most of this gathering needed to be spent around a table full of friends over tasty brunch foods. We also knew that one of Joy’s favorite pastimes is a relaxing bath. We decided to focus on a serene bath-time, self-care theme and teamed up with the amazing owner of Take Care Shop who was in the process of opening a new store in D. C. And had just recently had a sweet little baby girl!
We felt so blessed for the opportunity to invade her unfinished space and have such a beautiful empty area to work with. The back room of Take Care Shop was the perfect length to fit a string of stunning Something Vintage farm tables and chairs to host an intimate brunch party with some of Joy’s closest friends!
Lots of textural florals, candlelight, black flatware, and soft linens played into our relaxing, earthy atmosphere. We then used the front space to set out foods, drinks, and bath related activities!
The ladies of Greenheart Juice (one of their owners ALSO just had a little baby) supplied us with some delicious cashew based milks (Joy’s favorite kind) and they disappeared faster than the champagne and coffee!
We scoured the internets for yummy bath salt and tea recipes and laid out all the ingredients for guests to combine and take home! This table smelled so dreamy with all kinds of oatmeal, coconut milk powder, rose petals, and lavender buds permeating the area.
Our friend Angela Newton Roy captured the special moments and details of the day in film just a few weeks after giving birth to her daughter! So many babies! So grateful to know her and to have these amazing images.
One of Joy’s dearest, bestest friends, Kelsey, who is an amazing graphic designer, tackled the sweetest invites and paper goods for the party! Laura Hooper calligraphed the envelopes as an extra special touch.
Joy wore a Pink Blush Maternity gown with a yummy floral shoulder corsage from us and had her hair and makeup done by our amazing friend Makeup by Ana B. A local maker, Skincando, treated our guests to an awesome “miracle cream” take home treat and our buddies at Buttercream Bakeshop hooked us up with all kinds of delicious chocolate treats and baked goods! It was a stupendous day of doing our best to spoil one of our favorite people on the planet and we can’t wait to meet sweet baby Oliver.
