Enviable Wallpaper that Will Take Your Baby from Tot to Twenty

An extensive handmade doll collection and a room wrapped in whimsical wallpaper are the stuff that little girl's dreams are made of (and maybe big girls too). How could you not love such a magical space crafted by Margie Doyle? It all started with that Sanctuary Wallpaper by Tyler Hall and the rest is dream nursery history. Juniper’s nursery was a joint project between myself (Raewyn, the girls’ mother), and Margie Doyle of Doyle Design. When I found out I was pregnant with Juniper we were just finishing renovating my Victorian home in Cabbagetown, a neighborhood in Toronto, Canada. Designing a second little girls’ room was just the icing on the cake of an already exciting project.
Our jumping off point for the room was the amazing “Sanctuary” wallpaper by Tyler Hall. I fell in love with its vintage, yet feminine feel. The rest of our house (which was featured in Style at Home’s May 2016 issue) incorporates many of the same soothing tones and colors. It is important to me that the entire house flows from room to room, kids rooms included.
My older daughter Olive (3 years) could not have been more excited to become a big sister, so we wanted to make the nursery a place that she could enjoy as well. The rocking sheep and the little library are elements added to make her feel comfortable and welcome. The cozy rug on the floor is the perfect place for the girls to curl up to “read” stories together. Olive is head over heels in love with her little sister, and she spends a lot of time with me in the nursery changing and dressing Juniper.
The fun details such as the deer head above the bed, the mobile above the change table, and the birdhouses above the bookshelf are all by Tamar Mogendorff. These elements play up the natural theme in the room, and add texture and depth to the space. These handmade pieces truly have an heirloom quality about them, and I think that they add to the vintage vibe that I was going for. A little tap of the birdcage during change time makes the job all that much easier.
We decided to keep the crib bedding more neutral, as the rest of the room felt so feminine. The soft grey Restoration Hardware linens work perfectly with the grey in the wallpaper. This paired with the deer head above the crib make for quite the statement when you first walk into the room.
Juniper and Olive have quite the extensive handmade doll collection. I have fallen in love with anything that has a story to tell, and these dolls do just the trick. Again, they play into the vintage feel of the room, and are just as beautiful to look at, as they are fun to play with. I believe that these are all pieces that will transition well into toddlerhood and beyond, and can potentially be treasures that they pass on to their own children one day.
We have truly created a space for the whole family to enjoy. It is a soothing place for Juniper to grow with just the right dose of fun injected into it. I couldn’t be happier with the outcome.
