Any time I spot a someone with a really great shade of lipstick on, I'm bound and determined to give it a go. It's so chic and can take jeans and a white shirt to a whole new level. But then when it comes time to applying said lipstick, I chicken out. Brittany Messner of Life, Set Sail is coming to the rescue. Follow her six easy steps to a flawless red lip and never be afraid to walk on the bold lippie side again.
Even though I love the appearance of a classic red lip, one thing has always bothered me, and that is the maintenance required to pull off said look. After all, there’s is little less appealing than worn down red lipstick. Follow my tips on how you can get a flawless (and lasting) red lip in just a few simple steps!

PRIME: This one little step will work wonders for applying not just a red lip, but any lipstick you want to last throughout the day!

MAP IT OUT: Using your lip liner, map out the shape of your lips before completely filling them in. Making an “x” shape at the peak of your lips will result in a much more even look rather than free-handing application.

FILL IT IN: Continue to use your lip liner to fill in your lips. Using liner all over will help your finished look stay much longer than by only using liner on the edges of your lips.

APPLY COLOR: Now that you’re prepped and primed, you can use your favorite shade to finish your look!

BLOT: Using a tissue, blot your lip color.

REAPPLY: As your last step, reapply your lip color. The blot and reapply technique is one I use often when wanting my lipstick to go the distance, but you can also lightly dust translucent powder on your lips for a similar effect.

I love how a simple red lip can completely transform your look. My favorite way to wear it is with a pair of skinny jeans and a chunky knit or a little black dress.
