Less is more couldn't be a better quote for this small in size (840 sq. ft.) large in fabulousness beach loft. It's the home of Valerie Wildes, the blogger behind Mint + Varnish where she chitty chats about all things home design and sprinkles in little bits of her beachside studio she shares with her husband and fur baby. At first, living in a studio space seemed a bit intimidating. I struggled with the idea of having to let a lot of things go to fit both my husband and myself into the new place, however the process of giving away items was super rewarding, and in the end having less has been surprisingly refreshing. Living in a small space has taught me to be more mindful of every purchase I make for the home.
I wanted to build a home that we would love to spend time in; and I wanted the loft to feel airy, cozy, simple, and intentional. When shopping for furniture to fit the space, I pursued pieces that could also function as storage as well as dividers between living areas. I also took a very neutral route with color in furniture and linens, so there was less opportunity for any clashing. This is the first home I've created from a completely clean slate, and I'm incredibly proud of it.
