Not only does she run her own blog, but she's also the editorial director at Glitter Guide and in her spare time, likes to put a non-alcoholic twist to her favorite cocktails. And this one is just in time for this weekend's Kentucky Derby. We'll cheers to that!
From Caitlin Kruse... I love creating (and styling!) cocktail recipes so as soon as I found out I was pregnant (6 months ago!) I knew I'd have fun making seasonal mocktails, with the Kentucky Derby happening this weekend and the weather finally soaring into the 70s here I thought it would be fun to sip on a non-alcoholic version of the legendary Mint Julep.
Mint Julep Mocktail
|Mint leaves||1 cup Sugar|
|1 cup Water||3 Lemons|
|Soda water||Crushed Ice|
Make a mint-lemon simple syrup. Mix equal parts sugar and water with a 2 cups of mint leaves and the juice of 3 lemons over low heat until the sugar dissolves and it begins to thicken, just a few minutes. Remove from heat. Let sit for 10-20 minutes so the mint flavor is released and then strain and let come to room temp.
Fill glasses with crushed ice (I just put mine in the blender briefly) and pour a generous pour of syrup in each glass. Top with soda water and garnish with mint leaves.
