For my own daughter's first birthday, the sky was the limit. After all, I had survived 365 days of no sleep, 6 full weeks of full blown colic, along with eczema, reflux and a zillion other moments that challenged my every fiber. So when it came to throwing a party, a party I would THROW. Such is the case with this little girl's first birthday..planned to WOW by her event planner mama of course!

From the mom... As a wedding and an event planner, that has planned such a large variety of weddings and other events, it was impossible for me to go with a standard run-of-the-mill baby birthday party for my very own child. I knew exactly what our guests were expecting of a baby girl's' 1st birthday party: pink, princesses and over-the-top girly themes, so I decided to do something different. I picked a shabby chic style and decided to mix three colors: light pink, peach and yellow, which gave the party a fresh and Summery touch! There wasn’t a single cartoon princess to be found. The only princess in the room was my daughter!

We did a lot of DIY projects with my daughter's grandmother, who helped a lot! All pom-poms were made by us with love and care, a banner on the sweet table was custom created and we used a chalk board as a seating chart and handwrote all of the guests’ names on it, personally in calligraphy. The centrepieces were designed and put together by us as well and the most appealing part of the whole décor was our beautifully designed - with love - sweet table!! We featured a large variety of interesting sweet elements, like a cupcake bouquet, cake pops in the shapes of ice cream cones – which the kids loved! - macaroons in two different flavours, popcorn and a cake surrounded by lace ribbon! My daughter was wearing a light pink lace dress with a white lace headpiece, which added to the atmosphere and tied everything in together for the photographs.

All vendors that I used were vendors that I have been working for years and that have become my good friends over time. I know that they put their hearts and souls into this birthday party, as they knew that it meant a world to me :) It was definitely an amazing experience and it sure was a very different feeling to plan something for your own family! Although I take every job I do personally and to heart, designing an event for my family was a truly personal and rewarding experience. Usually I am in the background of a celebration, making sure that everything is running smoothly – but for this one very special occasion, I got to be a guest at my own event and enjoy the atmosphere and occasion thoroughly!
