DIY Striped Napkins
August 13, 2014
Any good party planner knows that the design isn't in the details. It IS the details. But those details can often break the bank. A few dollars here and there adds up pretty quickly when you're hosting. Which is why we like to DIY as many projects as we physically can! With an emphasis on quick and easy, these striped napkins will take you from ice cream social to bright and bubbly engagement party and beyond!
MaterialsWhite cotton napkins
Fabric paint in a variety of colors
Small square paintbrush
Painter’s tape

step-1Unfold and iron your napkins flat. Place a napkin on work surface covered in paper or plastic in case any paint leaks through.

step-2Tape off horizontal sections of napkin to form stripes. You can make just a couple down at the bottom edge, or tape them all the way up the napkin. Alternate chunky stripes with thinner stripes. Any area covered in tape will remain white.

step-3Paint stripes with fabric paint, alternating colors with each stripe. Make sure the tape lies flat so no paint can leak through, and don’t let the paint pool up by the tape edge so the line looks clean later.

step-4Let paint dry 1 hour. Remove the painter’s tape and enjoy your striped napkins!
