The last time I watched the Oscars I was in awe of all the glowy faces and perfect cat eyes being spotted on the red carpet. The stars of Hollywood may have the benefit of having a professional make up artist and hairstylist at their disposal for looking glam, but this doesn't mean we can't achieve a fun Oscar-esque look of our own! For more DIYs, head on over to my blog In Honor of Design!
I brought in the help of my friend Brielle Brenner, makeup artist here in Atlanta, GA to show us some easy tips for creating our own Oscar inspired eye make - up!

ingredientsUrban Decay Priming Potion (original)
Alternative : NYX High Definition Eye Shadow Base
MAC "Carbon" (black) Eyeshadow
MAC "Woodwinked" (brown) Eyeshadow
Rimmel London Scandal Eyes Kohl Liner in "Black" $5
Mascara of choice (We used Benefit)
Tools: Small Eyeshadow brush and blending brush
Optional : False Lashes (like Ardell Demi Wispies $5)

step-1Start by priming your whole eyelid with UD priming potion.

step-2Use a small eyeshadow brush to apply MAC's "Carbon" black shadow all over the lower part of the lid.

step-3With the same (clean) brush apply MAC's "Woodwinked" on top of the black , covering the whole lower lid (applying it on top of the black base will maximize the shimmer effect of the brown!).

step-4Use your clean blending brush (with no shadow) and make small windshield wiper motions to blend the outer edges of the shadow.

Tip : be careful not to bring the blended shadow all the way up to the brow bone, as this will create a "muddy" effect . Instead followup with your clean blending brush to and some foundation powder to "clean up" the brown bone and inner tear duct

step-5Line your upper and lower waterline with Rimmel Kohl liner and blend a little "woodwinked" under the lower lashline.

step-6Apply a hefty coat of mascara or false lashes.

Let us know if you give it a whirl! We would love to see your results!
