As a couple of New England girls, we're almost obligated to welcome fall with open arms. With our love of the crisp autumn weather comes the annual New Englander ritual to visit the orchard and get our apple picking fix. Admittedly, we went a little overboard this year, and came home with a bounty of cider donuts, crisp apple cider, and bushels upon bushels of our favorite apple varietals.

How does that saying go? When life gives you apples, make apple pie? Something like that! Well, we made lots of mini mason jar pies, salted caramel apples, and a baked brie with apple compote for a post-orchard autumn apple fete on the porch.

And it's not a party without a signature cocktail -- our autumn apple punch was a perfect pairing for our tasty treats. We mixed up Bulleit Rye, apple cider, and cardamom clove simple syrup with a squeeze of lemon juice and served them in mason jar mugs with an apple garnish. A day at the apple orchard was extended with an afternoon of friends enjoying apple themed food and drink.
