Bold statement alert: this is my favourite DIY we've ever featured on SMP Living. That says a lot considering there are a number of them that have completely knocked me off my feet. But I would pay big bucks for this gorgeous gilded number in a high end store. The best part? With just a little elbow grease, you can do the whole thing for virtually nothing! Ah, Ikea hacks - how I love thee.
Materials IKEA Vika Gruvan desk with trestle legs
Adhesive size Gold leaf (4 packets)
Glue brush Painter’s tape 2” foam brush
Paint brush
Clear acrylic spray

instructions step-1 Remove the glass top of the desk. Use painter’s tape to outline the edges of the trays.

step-2 Use the foam brush to paint adhesive size on one tray, including the sides. Let dry 15 mins, until tacky.

step-3 Press the gold leaf on the tray until it is covered entirely. Repeat steps 2 & 3 on the other tray. Press more gold leaf onto any missed spots and use the paint brush to remove any excess leaf.

step-4 Spray two light coats of clear acrylic spray to seal the gold leaf. Remove the painter’s tape and place the glass top back on your desk. Enjoy your fabulously luxe new desk!
