DIY Ikea Side Table Hack

Round these parts, IKEA hacks are kind of like the soon-to-be born royal baby. We can't stop talking about them, obsessing over them, finding joy in what they are going to look like when all is said and done. Okay, terrible reference. I know, it's Monday. But seriously? We are a little nutty over all of the fun that you can have with a good IKEA find. Namely? This $30 Ikea side table that we gussied up with a bit of marble and a splash of gold. The result? Fabulous.

Ikea table (only $30!)
Copper leaf
1” Paintbrush
Adhesive sizing
Glue brush
Marble contact paper
Acrylic sealant

Cut the contact paper to be slightly longer than the table top. Slowly & carefully apply the contact paper, pressing firmly with a ruler as you go to smooth out any air bubbles. You may need two sections of contact paper to cover the surface, just match the pattern as best you can.

Paint the wood pieces of the frame with adhesive sizing (just a couple sides at a time) and let dry 15 mins until glue is tacky. Lay copperleaf gently on the pieces and rub in place with the paintbrush. Continue adding copperleaf until each piece is completely covered, then brush off the excess copperleaf. If you miss spots as you go, you can just press on more copperleaf until they are covered!

Spray the table pieces with the clear acrylic sealant and let dry.

Assemble the table frame according to the Ikea instructions, leaving out the shelf grate piece. Voila!
