Summer EntertainingCocktails4th of July
At long last, the 4th of July is upon us, and with it comes sandy beaches, watermelon mojitos, and s'mores cake (oh yes, you heard right). This party, designed and styled by Clutch Events, is dripping in festive pride and I, for one, am all for it. I hope you're having a fantastic holiday, and a very, very, happy 4th of July. For more inspiration, check out the gallery - Katie Parra has done a great job at capturing this event in all its red white and blue glory.

From Katy... I just recently moved to the Admiral neighborhood of West Seattle, just up the hill from one of Seattle's most famous beaches, Alki Beach Park. During the spring and summer Alki Beach is swarmed with sunbathers, volleyball players, bonfires, and best of all... parties! Really there is no better place to have the quintessential summer party than Alki. Sand between your toes, views of Elliot Bay and Puget Sound, and watching the ferries going back and forth from downtown to the San Juan Islands.

Megan from Clutch Events did an amazing job sourcing the perfect beach furniture and decorations that made the party feel extra special. Kara from The Sweet Side made a smores themed cake, and yes it was as good as it sounds! Layers of graham cracker and chocolate cake with a toasted marshmallow frosting... AMAZING! She also made festive Raspberry and blueberry cheesecake shooters that were easy to eat on the beach. The adorable boxer Murphy dressed up for the occasion wearing his red, white and blue chevron bandana from the The Local Hound. The charming decorations were made by Heather of Heathoriginal, my favorite being the pom pom drink stirrers and the sparkler party favors.

It wouldn't be a Fourth of July party without some watermelon. It also wouldn't be a party without a cocktail! We chose a watermelon mojito.

Cook Time
Total Time
15 Minutes
2 1/2 to 3 pounds watermelon flesh, pits removed 1/2 cup fresh lime juice
1/4 cup packed mint leaves, plus more for garnish 2 1/2 cups white rum
1/4 cup agave syrup
In a blender, puree watermelon, fresh lime juice and mint in batches until smooth.
Strain into pitcher.
Mix in rum and syrup.
Serve in glasses filled with ice and garnish with mint leaves.
We received a stunning sunset that evening at Alki and warm glowing light flooded our party scene. We lit our sparklers and watched the sailboats sail by. It made us thankful to live where we live, and proud to be Americans.

Happy Fourth of July!
