Tips for Buying Strawberries

How To
For those of you that don't have the greenest of thumbs or don't feel like trucking it all the way to a strawberry field to pick your berries, here are a few tips for ensuring that you buy the best strawberries on the planet...and trust me, you can get the good ones year round if you just know what you're looking for!
Start by smelling. Yes, smelling. Your berries should smell all fresh and good and strawberried. And I can attest, I gave a few boxes a good smelling at the grocery yesterday and not a single person gave me the stink eye.

Look for dry, firm, bright red berries. With hearty, healthy green stems attached. Lighter colors and darker colors signify your berries being either under or over ripe.

If your box is at all stained, that means you've got a batch of over ripe berries that are sure to spoil quickly.

Follow these super simple steps and you will have perfect berries every time. Perfect berries that you can use in say...Strawberry and Cream Muffins that are coming up next! And if you missed it, make sure to check out our tips on picking strawberries and a perfect Summer Strawberry Ice Cream!
