Telluride Rehearsal Party from Lisa Vorce + Jessica Burke
March 18, 2013

I'm now, more than ever, convinced that Lisa Vorce is God's gift to party planning. As far as I can tell, the girl eats, sleeps and breathes fabulous events. Captured by Jessica Burke, this Telluride rehearsal party has set the bar high for future affairs, (and if I'm being honest, I'm not entirely confident we'll ever be able to top it). A low-key, fun-filled day complete with a live bluegrass band, vintage board games, baseball & barbecue with family and friends sounds to me like the most perfect of all perfect wedding kick-offs. (You might want to head on over to see the wedding that followed in all of it's fabulous glory). Oh, and there's so much more in the gallery.

From Lisa... Our clients wanted to host an activity-packed, 4-day weekend in Telluride, Colorado for their wedding celebration. Aside from the wedding day itself, the most important day to them was their “Fun Day”. They wanted us to create an Americana celebration of old-fashioned fun (a day of baseball, BBQ, board games, fishing, horseback riding, bluegrass music, etc.) I have to say it was one of the most amazing experiences for us, and it was an absolute dream to design this event and be a part of it. Kudos to our couple for such a brilliant concept!

Guests were transported to the extraordinary Grayhead property where we created Grayhead Field – a baseball diamond, complete with a border of 26 oversized red pennant flags, an incredible vintage scoreboard (built by my uber-talented Jackie and Ned), a pitcher’s mound, bases, team captains, jerseys, dug outs, benches, “eye-black” etc. We served peanuts and popcorn. We even sang the national anthem. (And…by the way… singing the Star-Spangled Banner in the middle of our “Field of Dreams” with our pennant flags blowing in the wind and 360° of gorgeous snow-capped mountains was enough to make anyone break down in tears of joy!) It was absolutely incredible! The bluegrass band led us in to the 7th Inning Stretch, an equally amazing experience that brought back such great memories of my days at Dodger games with my father!

In keeping with the Americana theme, we sourced linen in vintage red, white and blue ticking. Our talented friends at R. Jack Balthazar styled the tables with wildflowers in blown glass and galvanized containers. They brilliantly incorporated snacks like pickles, sunflower seeds, and Cracker Jacks as edible decor in vintage style packaging. No detail was left un-attended to….Our team wore chambray 1950‘s halter dresses and red espadrilles, and I had my girls tray-pass baseball-themed snacks, candy cigarettes, etc. in custom “cigarette girl” trays that we had created. In the distance, guests could belly up to the vintage truck we had towed in, which served as our bar. The food, cooked by the amazing Aemono catering team, was perfectly thematic. There were fresh corn dogs, French fries in newspaper cones, corn on the cob, cabbage, apple slaw, chili and more! On an old half-barrel grill, we had a grill master making burgers and grilled chicken. For those guests who needed a pick-me-up throughout the day, we had an award-winning barista make hot cocoa, mochas or espresso – all made to order.

Throughout the day guests played board games, partook in the baseball game, fished with guides, hiked with guides, and rode horseback with the famous “Roudy” ¬– a very colorful character transported from the 1950s!

It was an amazing, amazing day. One that we will never forget. Our friends at Grayhead, Wendy and all the local production crew - from the caterer to the rental company - were instrumental in making this day a success. We are eternally grateful to all of them!
