A Modern Palmetto Bluff Wedding Rooted in Meaning and Elevated by a Soft Neutral Palette

The core palette for the wedding was a timeless combination of black and white, softened with subtle sand and tan undertones to add warmth and depth. For the ancillary events, we wove in thoughtful infusions of color that reflected the unique tone and setting of each gathering – fresh, elegant greens for the bridal luncheon, and soft, sophisticated blues for the rehearsal dinner.

Chandler and Grant envisioned a celebration rooted in personal meaning, choosing to marry in Palmetto Bluff – a place close to their hearts where her family owns a home and the couple has shared countless memories. They embraced a streamlined, neutral palette that allowed the natural beauty of the Lowcountry to take center stage, setting the tone for an atmosphere of refined, modern elegance.

The culinary team at Montage Palmetto Bluff crafted a thoughtful array of menus tailored to each celebration throughout the weekend. For the wedding reception, guests were treated to a beautifully plated three-course dinner featuring a fresh crab salad to start, followed by a duet entrée of beef ribeye and lobster tail served with sweet potato purée, citrus fennel insalata, and Béarnaise sauce. The wedding cake was served as the final course, and guests enjoyed fried mozzarella in mini jars of spicy tomato sauce as a late-night snack.

For the welcome party and wedding day, we stuck strictly to the neutral palette and used only white flowers with fresh green foliage. Flowers included white stock, hydrangeas, peonies, garden roses, larkspur, lisianthus, ranunculus, and sweet peas.

The pastry team at Montage Palmetto Bluff crafted a showstopping cake that was as decadent as it was beautiful. Chandler and Grant chose two flavor profiles, layered in alternating tiers: a rich dark chocolate cake with peanut butter mousse, peanut butter cups, and milk chocolate ganache; and a bourbon-soaked vanilla sponge with bourbon milk jam crème, shortbread crumble, and caramel milk chocolate ganache. From a design perspective, we knew the cake needed to feel like a focal point. Positioned prominently at the edge of the dance floor, it featured delicate fondant details that echoed the lattice and palmetto leaf motifs used throughout the wedding. We then elevated the cake with a custom-made black platform, added a delicate black velvet bow to the bottom tier, and surrounded the cake base with fresh flowers and foliage.

The ceremony featured meaningful biblical readings from Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 and Matthew 7:24-27. Chandler walked down the aisle to Andrea Bocelli’s Con Te Partirò, performed by a live string quartet. The wedding party and family processed to instrumental renditions of Lana Del Rey’s Young and Beautiful and Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years. For the joyful recessional, the quartet played Bruno Mars’ Marry You. Live music played a central role throughout the weekend, culminating in a high-energy, jam-packed dance floor on Saturday night, thanks to Washington, D.C.–based band, The District.

Chandler and Grant originally envisioned exchanging vows at Montage Palmetto Bluff’s iconic May River Chapel, drawn to its charm and stunning waterfront setting. But with a guest list that exceeded the chapel’s capacity, it became clear the space couldn’t accommodate their ceremony, and we pivoted to use the larger Somerset Chapel on the property for the ceremony instead. Still, the May River Chapel held deep significance for the couple, so we found a meaningful way to incorporate it into the day. Instead of saying “I do” there, they shared their first look inside the chapel. It was an intimate, emotional moment captured so beautifully in photos and on video. It allowed them to experience one of the most important parts of the day in a space they truly loved.

Fitness is a way of life for Chandler and Grant, so it was fitting that it be a part of their destination wedding weekend as well! In addition to the rehearsal dinner, welcome party, and wedding celebration events, they also included a pickleball tournament and an early morning 5K race! To make the events even more personal, we designed custom pickleball paddles for the bride and groom, along with bespoke race bibs for each 5K participant – a fun little touch that reflected Chandler and Grant’s energy and enthusiasm!
