Embracing the venue’s Lowcountry charm was a defining element of Currie and Max’s wedding, a romantic celebration steeped in natural beauty and elegance. Set beneath the sweeping branches of a grand oak tree draped in Spanish moss — a signature of Kiawah Island — the entire day unfolded outdoors, anchored by the surrounding landscape.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]College sweethearts Currie and Max were first introduced by a mutual friend who attempted to set them up on a date. But the momentum behind that plan quickly fizzled, and the two didn’t truly connect until a year later — on Halloween. Despite a flurry of mixed signals, that night ended with a kiss: Currie dressed as Voldemort, complete with full face paint, and Max as William Wallace. By Valentine’s Day, they were officially a couple, thanks to what Currie described as “the most amazing dorm room meal I’ve ever had,” cooked by Max. From the beginning, Max loved that Currie could talk to anyone about anything, while Currie was drawn to Max’s gentle spirit, sense of humor, and kindness. When it came time to propose, Currie had no suspicions. Under the guise of attending an alumni event, she spent the morning wandering their old campus. They shared lunch at the spot where they’d had their first date, picked out books for each other at Currie’s favorite bookstore, and visited the campus chapel. Eventually, they made their way to a beautiful stone arch, where Max stopped and handed Currie a piece of paper, asking her to read it. At the end of the heartfelt poem Max had written, he dropped to one knee. Through tears, Currie asked what time the alumni event started — only to learn there was no event at all. Instead, they joined their families at a nearby restaurant, where a room full of loved ones awaited. “Our engagement was certainly the best day of my life,” Currie reminisced.[/field]

Currie wore a custom couture gown by Reem Acra, “the dress of my dreams,” she said. With a fitted silhouette and detachable overskirt, she was able to express multiple facets of her personality through two distinct looks.

[field title=”Food & Drink”]Currie and Max’s reception featured classic lowcountry fare like Charleston she-crab soup and pan-seared scallops. [/field]

The ceremony florals were designed to evoke the feeling of an untamed garden, with blooms winding around the final rows of chairs as though guests were stepping into an untouched garden. The reception, styled as a beautiful, magical dinner party, featured varying shades of blues and greens, tones selected to mirror those found in Monet’s Water Lilies. Blending the formality of a classic ballroom with the organic beauty of the outdoors, the couple’s dance floor sparkled beneath crystal chandeliers, while twinkling lights above the dining tables lent the evening a fairy-tale glow.

[field title=”Wedding Cake”]The couple’s wedding cake featured icing botanicals — reminiscent of ivy climbing up a wall — and sugar leaves and anemone flowers.[/field]

[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

Although Currie and Max come from different religious backgrounds, they intentionally crafted a deeply personal ceremony, featuring four literary readings, each delivered by someone meaningful to them. Music played a vital role throughout the day: a string ensemble accompanied the ceremony, family members performed heartfelt songs, and Currie’s brother played their grandfather’s bagpipes.

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]That morning, while getting ready, Currie’s mother did her hair. “No one knows my hair like she does,” Currie shared. They spent a quiet moment together in front of the mirror — one Currie now treasures through captured photographs.[/field]

[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

Before the ceremony, Currie was enveloped in a “women’s circle,” where candles were lit and each woman read a note, poem, quote, or passage for Currie to carry into her married life.
