My family has a house in Aspen, and I always envisioned getting married there. However, in the course of planning, we discovered our lead times were not long enough to host a large wedding on our desired date. Since getting married was my one non-negotiable, we decided to split the celebrations. The first was a family-only wedding ceremony, which took place in my parents’ backyard in Aspen in September during peak leaf season. The setting was intimate and personal, not to mention spectacular! Then the second celebration was three months later in my hometown of Fort Worth. This was the “big” wedding for our wide circle of friends and family, for about 400 guests. For the smaller Aspen celebration, we focused on an intimate ceremony that celebrated us as well as our Christian faith. And with the big party in Fort Worth, we wanted to throw an unforgettable party with a focus on fun. We had a blast! Having it all captured was a priority, and I was extremely opinionated when it came to picking my photographer. I ended up going with Liz Banfield, who is out of Minneapolis. I fell in love with her photos and knew that was the style I wanted. We made it a priority to fly her in for both Aspen and Houston so that both events would be seamlessly covered. For the video, I wanted coverage that wasn’t too sappy and more celebratory and fun. We ended up going with the Brothers Martens. We love how the video turned out! I’m not sure if I’ve ever laughed at anyone’s wedding video before until this one, which couldn’t have captured us as a couple more perfectly.

David and I met through mutual friends. One of his best friends was dating one of my best friends. They set us up, and we were engaged three years later! Now all four of us are married, and it’s so fun to have mutual friends in our closest social circle. The engagement centered around our dogs, which we love to walk together. David surprised me by tying the engagement ring around my dog’s collar right before we were about to head out for a walk. My dog came running down the stairs with the ring. So sweet and personal! We still went on our walk and had some time just us two before celebrating with our family and closest friends that night.

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]
Wedding gown shopping was harder than I expected! I love fashion, but I didn’t know exactly what I wanted since I had two completely different events. I visited showrooms in New York where I found my Naeem Khan dress at Mark Ingram. Once we saw it, we knew I right away because it was so unique and different from anything I’d ever seen. I wore this dress to our Aspen ceremony. And because I loved it so much, I also wore this same dress to my rehearsal dinner in Fort Worth in December. I wanted to wear a different dress for the Fort Worth reception in December. I’ve always loved the look of high necks and fell in love with the shape and lace of my Reem Acra gown. Quite simply, I felt beautiful in it! I knew I wanted to change dresses for the after-party, so I chose a silver, strapless dress at Naeem Khan that was perfect for dancing the night away. The silver finish was also a nod to the Christmas season. My aunt lent me my grandmother’s diamond bracelet that my grandfather had purchased for her from the department store that used to be owned by our family. It was special to wear a family heirloom.

[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]Although my sisters were my “bridesmaids,” our ceremony was so small it didn’t make sense to have them stand up with us. For both the wedding in Aspen and the reception in Fort Worth, I told them to wear whatever they wanted so they could feel their best! [/field]

David had a custom suit made for the Aspen Ceremony from the Suit Guy in Houston, Texas. He also had a custom tuxedo made in navy and black for the Fort Worth black tie reception. He did not have groomsmen.

[field title=”Food & Drink”]
We wanted a menu with wide appeal, so we opted for food stations positioned throughout the tent. We served a variety of freshly made dishes from fish tacos to pasta. The food was truly phenomenal! We served a full bar of options so everyone could choose their favorite drink. We made sure to also offer our favorite, frozen margaritas, which we love more than anything!

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]
Though I love Christmas, I wanted our reception to steer clear of Christmas décor. After all, when else do you get to decorate for a wedding?! We chose a color scheme of fresh pine green and whites, and the tent entrance was filled with a huge display of baby’s breath, which had almost a snow-like visual effect. Inside the tent, the beam running down the middle of our tent was decorated with flora, which looked incredible! We didn’t want to completely leave Christmas behind, however, so our florist decorated a Christmas tree with florals that was positioned at the entrance to the club.

[field title=”Wedding Cake”]
Our cake design wasn’t too extravagant. We wanted to stay simple since we were not going with the traditional wedding reception. It was from Crème de La Creme in Fort Worth, which has some of the best cake I’ve ever tasted! We had layers of chocolate, strawberry, lemon, and butter crème.

[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]At the Fort Worth reception we had Q The Band play uninterrupted for the entire reception. They rocked it! Our first dance in Fort Worth was to “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers. I love his music and it was something both my husband and I could agree on. And because our Aspen wedding had happened on September 21st, they also played The Twenty First Day of September by Earth Wind and Fire all night which brought our two events together on the dance floor! [field title=”Special Detail #1″]
For our invitation, we included a green velvet ribbon with an aspen leaf wax seal to pay tribute to our Aspen ceremony. Though we didn’t do our reception there, I still wanted to somehow include our love for Aspen in the details!

We brought in a margarita machine from Dallas to share our love of frozen margaritas with our out-of-town guests!

For the Aspen Ceremony, GRO designs made us a fabulous cross draped with fresh florals. It was super important for us to center our ceremony around our Christian faith, and the cross was the main focal point.
