Vermont is the backdrop of this wedding, but the groom’s ties to Vermont are extensive. So much history there. Vermont means so much to his family. Jeff is a multi-generational Vermonter. Both his parents and grandparents grew up in the St Johnsbury and Burke area. His parents got married on the property of what is now the Inn at Burklyn 50 years ago! Over the past 2 years, we’ve spent a lot of time in Vermont together, and Laura wanted to share with her friends and family the Vermont experience and its beauty. The specific property in Barnet is Impey family property, which was originally Jeff’s Grandparents. We’ve had lots of fun memories together there – hiking, cross-country skiing, and sledding in the fields on the property. The Bride was represented with southern touches woven throughout the wedding, to show her Virginia history.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Jeff (a Primetime Engineering Emmy Award winner): I proposed to Laura near the Brooklyn Bridge in a quiet park (Bridge View Park), which had become one of our favorite spots to hang out. I also suspected that Laura thought I might ask in Costa Rica (A trip that I had planned with an unusual amount of detail for my style) so I wanted to surprise her by proposing before. I was very nervous that I would not be able to get Laura to walk the path I had planned without getting suspicious. But it all worked out as planned. When she said yes, there was a family nearby that cheered for us and we heard loud cheering at a distance. We looked up and saw ~50 people cheering for us at a rooftop bar! We then had dinner on a boat along the dock and Facetimed our closest friends and family to tell the the news. It was a perfect night – and then two days later we left to Costa Rica, ring and all. The ring ended up being even more symbolic than I initially thought. In the months leading up to the proposal we had done some casual ring shopping so I had broad direction/idea (rose gold, liked oval shape diamond). I wanted to add a more personal touch to the ring by adding something on the inside of the band. I decided to add Laura’s birth stone and two tiny diamonds on both sides of the birth stone. I did not know it at the time, but the diamond, aquamarine, diamond layout I put on the inside of the ring was a replica of the ring Laura’s late mother gave to Laura! I was stunned when Laura showed me the ring from her mother and happy that a symbol from her mother had somehow found its way into the ring.

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]

Wedding Dress by Oscar De La Renta. The Bride actually originally tried it on at Carine’s Bridal in DC which was lovely with her Grandma and cousin Lissie, and this dress made her grandma and the Bride cry, and then she re-tried it on at the flagship in NY and it just made more sense to get it here for fittings and such!

Bride’s Rehearsal Dinner Dress: The Bride had her late Mom’s wedding dress shortened and tailored, and the big 80s sleeves somewhat de-puffed (by about half the puffiness, but they’re still puffy!). It’s originally from Lauren Ashley (apparently the furniture/decor store made wedding dresses in the 80s!!) Tailored by the lovely Bridgestone Cleaners.

Bride’s Reception/Change dress by Katie May Collection. Purchased online using their Bridal Box process to try on. Tailored by Bridgestone Cleaners, too!

Bride’s Shoes – Harriet Wilde a British brand purchased online – they were so nice about shipping and presentation. These are the shoes the Groom stepped on in one of their first dance lessons when the Bride was trying to break them in!

Bride’s Jewelry details. Engagement and wedding rings were purchased at Marisa Perry in the west village of New York. The weddings rings are engraved with a line from the lyrics of their first dance song. The Bride also wore her late mom’s engagement ring that she left her – a diamond-aquamarine-diamond gold ring (includes something blue!). Her mother took her three-stone engagement ring and divided it into two rings for the Bride’s sister and her when she knew her illness was terminal. The Bride’s has an aquamarine center, my birthstone; Her sister got the middle diamond with two added sapphires (her birthstone). Fun story – on the inside of the Bride’s actual engagement ring, the Groom wanted to do something to make it personal, so he put a tiny birthstone (aquamarine) on the inside of the ring, and then he put diamonds on either side without ever seeing the ring her mom left her. So there is a tiny replica of her ring inside the Bride’s engagement ring! Pretty wild. The Bride wore her mother’s pearls for the rehearsal dinner with her dress too.

Bridal earrings – BHLDN Bridal hair pins – Vivi Embellish – they did rush shipping which I really appreciated!

[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]A quartet from NYC played Edelweiss. Sound of Music vibe. Bride’s friend sang, too.[/field]

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]How They Met: Our first date was for afternoon drinks in Marina del Rey (Brennan’s, a bar known for turtle racing). On the second date, Jeff took Laura on a picnic and wine tasting at Will Rogers state park, which led to an impromptu dinner, Jeff meeting Laura’s two guinea pigs named Grace & Frankie, and Jeff showing off his “dance” moves at a local bar.

Stationery by El’s Cards. A special, significant detail that was woven through the stationery was a wedding swing. Photos were taken of the Bride and Groom on the swing, too.[/field]

[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

The Groom’s parents were married at the The Inn at Burklyn 50 years ago. The vintage car in the photos belongs to the Groom’s parents and has special significance as the Groom’s parents drove away in that car 50 years ago!
