From … Lucia and Matt have amazing energy together. Lucia has a calming, thoughtful presence, and Matt brings lighthearted, playful energy to their relationship. Shortly after getting engaged, they discovered that they were expecting, and decided to have an intimate Bernardus Lodge wedding with 30 of their closest friends and family. Riley Loves Lulu did an incredible job designing their welcome dinner (inspired by the Amalfi coast) and wedding at Bernardus in Carmel Valley in less than four months! Carmel is a special spot to Matt and Lucia, as Lucia’s family has a home there and they visit often.
After getting ready at a family home in downtown Carmel, Lucia and Matt shared a first look at Bernardus Lodge. We spent some time walking the charming grounds together through the beautiful gardens and lavender. Their ceremony was held in the rose garden. An asymmetrical deconstructed floral arch was a gorgeous backdrop- along with the mountains of Carmel. The florist used so many bright, fun colors in the pieces she created for this event. Matt and Lucia both wiped back tears as they exchanged vows. There is something even more beautiful about getting married when there is a baby on the way – and this is truly the first chapter of them as a family.
The dinner under the trellis took everyone’s breath away. Draped with twinkle lights, the one long table truly allowed everyone to feel like family as Matt and Lucia celebrated their marriage. A three-piece band serenaded the guests throughout the meal. Although not planned, Matt and Lucia shared a first dance by the twinkle lights. It was such a sweet moment and it made me feel grateful that their day unfolded in a way where they could have a sweet, spontaneous moment.
