From Nouvelle Weddings… Richa and Nima met in Baltimore, MD in 2017 through a mutual friend while in residency training. Ironically, they met just months before Richa was slated to move to Nashville, TN to start fellowship, and so they dated long distance for 4 years before Richa moved back to the DMV area to re-join Nima. They share a love for travel, food, exercise, nature, memes, music and horror movies. In their free time, they greatly enjoy the company of their family and friends. The most important part of wedding planning for Richa and Nima was ensuring they incorporated cultural elements of Richa’s Indian (Rajasthani) and Nima’s Persian heritages. From the beginning, this committed them to a wedding with multiple events over several days. They wanted a venue that would be able to accommodate all these events and afford guests the ability to easily access their rooms to relax or change between events and ceremonies. At the same time, they wanted to make sure the weekend was light and fun, with at least one outdoor component, and that guests didn’t feel like they were being shuffled around the interior of a hotel like at a professional conference. Four Seasons Hotel Baltimore, located right off the water of the Inner Harbor, was perfect in that regard. The Sangeet on Friday evening was situated in the Four Seasons Cobalt Room which has large beautiful windows overlooking the harbor with an adjacent lounge for women and men to get henna done throughout the event.

On Saturday morning, the couple took advantage of the hotel’s waterfront promenade for Nima’s Baraat and grand entrance. The groom, along with friends and family arrived to the venue via water taxi, kicking off a morning of dancing and celebrating with a short cruise around the harbor before depositing the groom and his party back indoors for the Hindu ceremony, which took place under a beautiful royal-themed mandap, the sacred structure for Hindu wedding rituals. Exquisitely decorated with lush, berry colored florals, the mandap was spacious enough to allow Richa and Nima to walk side by side around a central fire for each of their wedding pheras, or vows. After the Hindu ceremony and lunch, the couple used the beautiful backdrop of the hotel’s outdoor splash terrace for the Persian wedding ceremony. The Persian ceremony decor embraced a contrasting palette of soft mono-chromatism to showcase the beautiful sofreh elements, a spread of beautiful decorative items and delicacies, each of which has its own particular symbolism in marriage. A beautifully letterpressed program provided guests with details about the history and customs behind the Persian wedding ceremony. Nima’s favorite part of the wedding was catching up with friends and family across various events. Meanwhile, Richa’s was seeing her family and friends put on choreographed dances at the Sangeet, catching up with everyone at the cocktail hour and afterparty, dancing her heart out on the dance floor, and watching all guests have the time of their lives at every event.

From the bride and groom… A multi-event wedding is both wonderful and overwhelming. Save the honeymoon for a separate time from the wedding when you are well-rested and use the week after the wedding to decompress. Don’t stress the details! While that was easy for us to say (as we had a stellar wedding planning team and vendors who did all the stressing for us) guests won’t remember minor or even major things that don’t go as planned! Remember that a very cultural, multi-event wedding is less about the bride and groom and more about family! Embrace this, have a blast seeing all the family and friends who have gathered to celebrate you, and take a minute periodically during the weekend to step back and admire everyone and everything around you. It’s very easy to forget between the chaos of going from one thing to the next—that you’re experiencing something truly awesome with all the people you love.
