From the bride…. Planning a wedding in 2020 wasn’t for the faint of heart. Let’s just say, it didn’t feel like the rom-com that I was expecting. We experienced what felt like one challenge after the other from postponement to forest fires to snowstorms to power outages. But, despite it all, our big day was an absolute fairytale.

We hosted our wedding at Martis Camp in Lake Tahoe, California. It was our ideal venue. My family owns a home at Martis Camp and we have so many fond memories visiting throughout the years. We knew its sophisticated yet cozy feel was the perfect atmosphere for our big day.

The design of our wedding was a highlight. I loved the color scheme that we chose. We had muted greens and blues that drew upon the natural beauty of Tahoe. We also brought in autumnal colors for accents, which ended up being an unexpected delight from changing our original May date to October.

In combination with the earthy color scheme, we added lots of organic flowers, soft ribbons, wooden baskets, and vintage furniture items. The overall aesthetic created an ambiance of class and comfort. The ceremony felt like the secret garden of my dreams with a backdrop of an endless forest. My favorite details were the fresh flowers in votives at the start of our aisle and a stunning flower arch at the end of it.

My husband and I entered the reception area in a vintage, white Bentely. Upon entrance to the dinner tent, there was a champagne tower which was fun to see before going inside. The tent was lined with twinkling lights and flowers. It also had wooden chandeliers hanging with intertwined ivy. The best part, though, was our 40-person rustic, wooden head table for our massive bridal party. It was so special.

The dancing portion of the night was outside the tent. We utilized the amazing Martis Camp family barn stage for our band. There were dessert bars, plenty of heaters, and a massive fire pit to keep everyone warm. When it became too cold to bear, we went inside the barn, where there was a late night area set up. We had a dj, late night food tray-passed, games, and a smaller dance floor.

The fashion was another unique part of our wedding. With ample planning time, I found two dresses to wear. For the ceremony, I wore a Carolina Herrara dress that was a simple, sculpted silhouette with stretch crepe. My mom wore a Herrera on her wedding day and I wanted to follow suit. We customized the dress to fit my style by lowering the back, adding buttons down the train, and extending it. To pair, I found a timeless, cathedral-length veil with hand-laced flowers at the base.

My second dress was a custom silk gown by one of my favorite designers, Olivine Gabbro. She is a master at tailoring. I knew that for my second gown, I wanted something more fitted and fun. Olivine and I worked together to come up with the perfect design. I was able to pick the fabric, color, shape, and be a part of the design process. The final product was a silk, high-necked gown with a slit and small train. I absolutely adore it.

From the flowers to the colors to the fashion, our wedding was exactly as we wanted it. Our amazing vendors executed the weekend with grace and poise, even in the face of all the logistical challenges. In the end, the difficulty we faced just made it more unique and memorable. In today’s world, we know how lucky we are that we celebrated our love with our favorite people. We are forever grateful.
