A Romantic Al Fresco Wedding Overflowing With Southern Charm at Wavering Place

Not even a 100° South Carolina heat wave could stop these wedding guests from dancing the night away and celebrating their gorgeous newlyweds! From the classic white and green color scheme to the lush peony-filled arrangements by Wimberly Fair, to the al fresco reception under a canopy of string lights – the team at Meagan Warren Weddings turned their classic, elegant wedding dreams into a reality! Don’t miss out on the full gallery captured by Sarah Ingram for all the southern charm.

From Sarah Ingram… When Laura and Michael got engaged, it was a quick and easy decision to return to the town they met for their wedding. They couldn’t wait to share their affection for the city and university (University of South Carolina) the relationship began in with loved ones.

Fortunately just outside of Columbia sits a stunning historic venue : Wavering Place. The property hosts beautiful gardens, an interesting and authentic history, and warm and welcoming family ownership. The white Greek revival house made for a visual statement and an incredible backdrop. The couple wanted something magical, classic, elegant and nature-inspired which could all be found at Wavering. Style was centered around simple & classic overtones with a few unexpected details including custom ribbon trimmed umbrellas standing high over the ceremony chairs for a hot summer ceremony.

An eye catching tulip adorned cake and Laura’s plunging chantilly lace gown also stood out, balancing a fine line between delicate and bold. An ivory, white, and green color story flowed throughout the event with an introduction of beige and champagne for the reception. Textured linens, soft grey ceramic place settings and intricate vintage crystal kicked up the interest when it came to dinner decor.

A week before the wedding, the temperature jumped to nearly 100 degrees! Laura and Michael knew it was possible it could be “famously hot” (Columbia’s slogan), but did not expect it to be 100 Fahrenheit. So they worked with planner Meagan Warren to alleviate hot weather woes and added items like ice cold fruit infused water, hand fans and cool lavender towels for guests upon arrival. Despite the heatwave, everyone stayed in good spirits and immersed themselves in the festivities from cocktail hour in the garden to the open air family style dinner (a nod to both families Italian heritage) and dance party on the iconic back lawn!
