From Marit Williams Photography… What makes a good design? It doesn’t have to be the latest Instagram trend, it can be something that is timeless. Something you can look at 10 years down the road and say “that was amazing and I wouldn’t change a thing”. That philosophy is exactly what drove the design and vision of this styled shoot.
We wanted something soft, minimal and romantic as we were playing off the brand-new venue, Abella, in Chisago City, Minnesota. A beautiful modern white barn that is a joy to design in with its vaulted ceilings, wall of windows and gorgeous chandeliers; it’s a designer’s dream venue.
Inspired by the warm soft hues of autumn, with the golden yellow foliage and creamy wild grasses – florist Studio Fleurette added hints of dusty mauve, caramel and some deeper brown tones mixed with neutrals helped make the floral color palette more complex. The soft flowers climbing on gold structures framed the fireplace for a ceremony area and brought the eye up to the large beautiful windows while creating balance with the aisle flowers which were more compact and lush.
A textural bouquet and a romantic soft tablescape with beautiful candles and sparkling glass vases that caught the light pulled everything together. The tablescape beautifully balanced the warm and modern vibe of the day. To do that we used a lush velvet linen from La Tavola, cheese cloth runner, crisp white stoneware, mixed 12 and 18-inch candle tapers and modern dipped flatware provided by Collected & Co. We added dimension by contrasting the lighter colors on the tablescape with the dark wood bentwood chairs. The details of the day would not be complete without a simple, flower-adorned cake by Ink Sweets, the bride’s modern crop-top reception gown by The White Room and the clean, modern invitation suite and menus provided by Jill Elaine Design. The local custom stationery designer used timeless fonts, flowing hand-lettering, subdued tones, handmade paper, sealed with a personalized wax stamp to set the tone for the elegant affair.
