South Carolina Romance at Magnolia Plantation

From the Bride… One of my favorite memories from our wedding day was our first look. Our photographer, Erika Brown (my husband’s sister!)  walked us underneath a row of huge oak trees lining the river with the iconic white bridge at Magnolia Plantation in the background. It was so incredibly romantic. Erika is amazing! She sacrificed from partaking in much of the wedding activities in order to assure our day was captured perfectly.

Words cannot describe how perfectly charming our wedding day was. Edson is from Brazil and moved to Delaware when he was younger with his family. I’m from western North Carolina in the mountains, so finding a central wedding location proved to be difficult. We didn’t spend much time looking because once Edson found Magnolia Plantation and Gardens in Charleston, South Carolina it immediately captured our hearts and nothing else could compare. Magnolia Plantation offers various venues amongst the property, however we chose the Carriage House which is surrounded by ancient live oaks dripping with Spanish moss overlooking the banks of the Ashley River.

In addition to the abundance of natural beauty the venue had to offer, we were captivated by the Carriage House itself. It is historic and overflows with rustic, southern charm. At night, burning torches line the bank of the Ashley River while the patio fireplace offers guests a place to enjoy the view outdoors and to feel the cooling breezes from the waterway. Inside, we fell in love with the wagon wheel chandeliers hanging from exposed beams of wood. We had always imagined ourselves getting married in a romantic, charming setting in the midst of nature, and Magnolia Plantation went above and beyond our dreams in that way.

As far as a wedding theme, we envisioned romantic, rustic southern charm and turned to our talented wedding planner, Adriana Gorman, for direction. We have always loved the color blue but were unsure how it would fit with the venue and landscape we loved so much. We wanted to complement, not over-power, the natural beauty of the venue. Adriana brought our vision to life and created a beautiful design for our wedding day incorporating white drapery, romantic candles, blue silk ribbon, our favorite garden roses, lush garlands, and even golden utensils!

It’s hard to share what we loved most about our wedding, because we literally loved everything. From the vintage doors dripping with beautiful flowers that framed our alter space, to the aisle florals, to the white drapery and chandeliers hung with Spanish moss and greenery, to the classy and delicious food from B.Gourmet, the amazing cake display, and to the wedding decor and design, it really was like a dream.
