5 Ways to Help Define Your Wedding Theme

Choosing a wedding theme may seem daunting because you’re officially putting a stamp on the overall look and feel of your wedding day. The theme can dictate the dresses, the venue, the food, the music, and the décor.

It seems intimidating but it’s totally fun and can be seamless with these five steps.

Stay True to You

At the end of the day, a wedding is a chance to reflect your own personal style and the relationship you and your future spouse have. Use that to your advantage to highlight the things that make you two a beautiful couple. If you two LOVE adventure and want a destination wedding… do it! It’s ultimately up to the two of you and what makes you most comfortable and happy. Of course, you want to be hospitable to guests but they’ll love the personal touch you add to the wedding.

Define Your Couple Style

Are you and your future spouse very romantic and traditional? Perhaps you’ll want a romantic glam wedding with a church ceremony and a ballroom reception! Or perhaps you two are very sporty and love the outdoors… maybe a ceremony on a golf course overlooking the ocean with a tented reception on a warm summer evening would be best!? It’s all about the two of you and a wedding day that brings out the special side of your relationship that make you two unique.

Re-Live Important Memories

Using a memory of how you met, how you got engaged, your first date, or where you went to college together all tie a special meaning to the wedding theme. Maybe your first date was at a carnival on a warm summer night where you shared your first kiss on a ferris wheel and ate cotton candy. Have a cotton candy bar at your wedding and a popcorn machine with a whimsical tea length wedding dress and white balloons filling the reception venue. These tiny details that are a special memory in your relationship can be so fun to feature at your wedding.

Think of Your Favorite Things

At the end of the day, the most simple way to choose your wedding theme is to start with the basics… think of your favorite things. My favorite colors are blush and gold, and my favorite place in the world is the shores of Lake Michigan. And so a beachy wedding was born. It can be that easy. Think of the people, places, and things that make you the happiest and the wedding theme will quickly follow.

Look In Your Closet

This is the truest way to figure out what your style is. Are your clothes romantic, modern, earthy, eclectic, outdoors-y, preppy, or glamorous? If you look at your clothes, you’ll most likely notice a pattern. This is an honest way of defining your style and finding what you feel most comfortable in. And of course, you want to be the most comfortable on your wedding day.

Choosing a theme for your wedding allows everything else to fall into place. As long as it’s true to you and your future spouse, you can’t go wrong.
