Geometrics gained momentum in 2016 but I’m predicting they go big in 2017. Modern and whimsical and oh so fun, they were on display at this boho beauty of a wedding in Palm Springs, from the DIY table runners to the floral and succulent displays. From the Bride… Cyrus and I both work in creative fields – he’s a video director and I’m a makeup artist – so when it came to our wedding we wanted to create something that reflected both our aesthetic and lifestyle. We’re from the east coast and now live in Los Angeles, so this felt like an opportunity to get all of our loved ones together for a mini-vacation and show them why we made California our home. It’s not often you have all your friends and family together in one place, so our vision was a sunny, carefree weekend that really treated our guests.
We chose a private estate in Palm Springs, just two hours away from our LA life, and an exciting destination for our guests. As a destination wedding we expected a small turnout but ended up with 120 people – apparently everyone wants to visit Palm Springs!
When I started planning I wanted to let my creativity run wild, so I extended that same courtesy to my bridesmaids. I love the floral dresses from Reformation so I let them chose whatever style and floral they wanted, as long as the dress was black. I loved seeing the dresses they picked out and how each one matched their individual style and personality. For my dress I chose a 3-piece blush ballgown by BHLDN with a white lace blouse to cover up my tattoo during the ceremony. I honestly never thought I’d wear pink or a ballgown, but when I tried it on the feeling was undeniable. I loved wearing it so much!
Using a private estate allowed us to hand pick every element, especially decor. We brought in Morrocan-style lounge furniture to create seating and ambiance for the cocktail hour and reception, then we used farmhouse tables for dinner to give it a rustic, casual feel. We held the ceremony in the front yard as the sun was setting over the mountains. Oriental rugs formed the aisle.
I pulled from the color palette of the venue – the lush green lawn and towering palm trees, sparkling teal blue pool, yellow lemons on the trees, and pink bougainvillea – accented with black, white, and gold to add drama and some glam. I’m not much of a DIY-er, but with Cyrus’ help we hand painted geometric patterned table runners that set off the table decor. Individually potted small succulents served a dual purpose of place cards and party favors – an idea I gleaned from Pinterest.
One of my favorite details was the guest book where we offered pink polaroid cameras as a way for guests to capture vintage style selfies and glamour shots that they could instantly glue onto the pages and write personal notes. The result is a handmade scrapbook from the night and a mural of Polaroids at home that we can’t seem to take down!
Just like we imagined, the entire night was magical. Cyrus and I succeeded in bringing our closest family and friends to one of our favorite places and throwing the party of our dreams. We’re grateful to have had incredibly talented and creative vendors to collaborate with. We definitely couldn’t have done it without them!
