From Elizabeth NordEmily and Chris’s wedding day was full of Greek traditions and elegant details! They had their ceremony at the St Paul of the Cross church in Park Ridge, IL and their reception at the Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel downtown.

Emily began her day by getting ready at her parent’s home in Park Ridge which featured the most beautiful room filled with tons of natural light. Her details were exquisite! Among my favorites were her blue Badgley Mischka heels, classic white and blue stationery, and the traditional Greek eye that the bridesmaids wore on the neck of their dresses. The Greek wear the eye for protection against the evil eye, which is said to cast away misfortune (such as bad luck or sickness) upon a person. Emily also had all of her bridesmaids sign the bottom of her shoe before leaving for the ceremony. According to the Greek tradition, you’re supposed to check the bottom of the shoe at the end of the night and whoever’s name has rubbed off the most is supposed to be married next. The bridesmaids’ bouquets included beautiful white roses and peonies, while Emily’s included a pop of blue flowers. Chris got ready in Rosemont, IL with his family and friends. I loved his navy and white striped cufflinks, navy suit, and crazy colored fun socks!

As we made our way to the church for the ceremony, there were more details waiting! On a silver tray laid a silver chalice with the bride and groom’s names engraved as well as the stefana (Greek wedding crowns). Emily and Chris also decided to include two types of ceremony programs: an English version and a Greek version. The reception was filled with traditional Greek dances such as the 12-step dance and one amazing mother-son dance! The bride, groom, and their guests all took part in smashing plates in celebration of their wedding day.
