From Blueberry PhotographyThe Art of Broken Pieces

“… to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and health, until death do us part.”

Often when we talk about marriage, we focus on the joyful memories when love is most abundant and overflowing. What we tend to neglect are the moments of doubt, anger, sadness, and fear. It is in these times from which a true love is built, through the prospect of letting a relationship fade away. We reflect on the totality of it all, from conception to the hypothetical future, and the authenticity of each other’s emotions. Here is where we decide to give up or to keep pushing forward, learning each other’s quirks, knowing when to let go of an argument, to discern pettiness from principle, and to understand how to be a selfless companion. This is the kiln that forges the vessel where love remains.

That vessel is what we hope to exemplify with Kintsugi, the Japanese art of rejoining broken ceramic pieces with gold lacquer. The philosophy behind this practice embraces values of restoration and finding beauty in imperfection. The photo shoot we present to you is a blend of simple design with a complex message that lies within the gold-filled cracks of each ceramic plate.
