From The Bride…Anton and I have started dating 9 years ago and when we had a mini getaway to Bali a year ago, he proposed and I said yes!

Just like any other recently engaged girls, our eyes are suddenly fixated on color swatches, pretty flowers, white gowns and two of the most tapped phone apps are Instagram and Pinterest. That began my journey in wedding planning. Anton, my then-fiancè, got the chance once in a while to get periodical updates on what our wedding designs were going to be like. We were not a fan of big, ballroom style wedding so we thought a small and intimate soiree would be ideal.

In my line of works as a graphic designer, I designed and made a layout of wedding albums for a wedding photographers and looking at hundreds of indoor wedding, I wanted to have an open-air party with a panoramic background.

Living and working in Jakarta, we flew to Bali, a place where our family and friends would get the chance to spend the weekend and attending our weddings. Among lots of beautiful resorts and villas in this holiday Island, we fell in love with The Latitude, a private residence with a big infinity pool, drop-dead-gorgeous Indian ocean scenery, plenty of space for our 100 guests and layers of terraces for our Holy Matrimony. Everything about that place drew us in.

To me, choosing colours is not difficult. I am always a fan of white and gold ornaments and I picked that as our theme colour. I picked a design that was aesthetically beautiful but at the same time cost-savvy with matching menus, place cards, and gift tags were printed with the same theme colour. We want our wedding stationery to be timeless, and we thought that gold and white is never outdated.

I felt that everything had to be properly designed and coordinated and also equally important for us to find vendors who are not only experienced but also share the same vision of what we wanted. For sure, we wanted the chandeliers to match the golden ornaments on our wedding stationery. We had lots of candles, flowers on golden stands and flickering tea light candles on the table. My wedding gown was the prettiest creation I have seen. I’m always a fan of lace and pearls, and Soko Wiyanto designed what I really like, a simple mermaid style with an off-shoulder neckline with lots of beads, pearls and french lace.

Among other vendors that worked with us, my friendship with Bernardo from Bernardo Pictura, came as an immediate hiring. I felt that being friends with the photographers ease the wedding day tension and able to bring that natural smile and giggle. His laid back attitude was a potion for our parents and bridesmaids who felt that they may not look perfect on camera, and we love his style of photographs; modern, candid, and beautiful without too much trying.

As our wedding happened to take place during the rainy season, we installed a tent to be on a safe side. Tania from Flora Botanica Designs, hung beautiful draperies and chandeliers. Together with the 20 chandeliers, dining tables which are set up in a row, golden tiffany chairs, and a big wedding cake, at night it felt grand, like a fairytale, just like a typical grand dinner in a palace we see on movies and TVs. I adore a classic white theme wedding, the one that when you look the photos thirty years later, it would still look beautiful and never out-of-fashion, and when she incorporated a little touch of greens in the arrangement, it was a genius idea, truly beyond what I had imagined. It was romantic and breathtaking. Hiring her was the best decision ever.

The best moment during our wedding was our Holy Matrimony. I had been dreaming about this before, walking down the aisle with a perfect weather, sunny but breezy. The temperature was rather uncomfortable days before the wedding. It had been hot with unpredictable showers and I couldn’t imagine standing in the heat. I was lucky! It rained for almost an hour and when it stopped, it was pleasantly cool and breezy. I couldn’t imagine a more perfect weather than that. We walked down the aisle with a small church choir, surrounded by close family and friends and truly it was the moment we had been dreaming about.

Our reception was a blast. Our MC was so entertaining without being too intrusive and we hired a DJ at the end of the night. Well of course, with Jack Daniels, Vodka, and wines from dinner, we had an absolute dance party. It was a night to remember over and over again, and if we have the chance, we’d spend our anniversary with the same people reliving the day.
