From The Bride…Anthony and I met at work, but really didn’t quite hit it off right away. We joke that it took a few lucky circumstances, but once Anthony finally decided to ask me out on a few casual coffee dates, the connection was instant. The relationship took off quickly and we’ve never looked back since.

Our vision for our wedding always centered around a desire for a relaxed and intimate day for us and our guests. Hummingbird Nest Ranch served as the perfect spot for bringing our dream wedding to life. I actually discovered the venue randomly on Pinterest and was surprised to find that despite how beautiful it is, it’s not mentioned nearly as often as some of the other popular LA venues. We booked an appointment to see the space the week after getting engaged and didn’t look anywhere else after that!

With such a beautiful backdrop, we knew that the key was to keep things natural, simple and light. We softened Hummingbird’s vibrant Spanish coloring with light peaches, greens, and ivories. We loved how the breakup of the venue allowed for guests to immerse themselves completely in each part of the day. It was amazing to see how delighted they were as they slowly discovered each piece of the property as they moved from the ceremony to cocktail hour and finally into the breathtaking reception space. The unique flow was the exact reason we fell in love with Hummingbird ourselves!

One of the highlights of our wedding was our ceremony. We asked our friend, Jessica, to help officiate the ceremony because she has seen us grow as a couple and has an understanding of the things that matter most to us. She did an incredible job of helping us honor our parents, who are the most significant presence in our lives. The emotions shook even my uncles, who I have never seen cry! Another memorable piece was being able to sit down for the first time at dinner and look out into the sea of our closest family and friends and see that they were truly enjoying themselves. I remember saying to Anthony, “I really can’t believe this is our wedding.”

The journey to the big day was never the easiest, but we were determined to avoid as much time-related stress as possible by planning ahead. As soon as we booked our venue and wedding date, we put together a pretty detailed timeline of to-dos and stayed fairly honest to it. Because we parsed out the process into manageable deadlines, we enjoyed most of the months leading up to the wedding. With all the last minute things that came up that we couldn’t have foreseen, I was thankful not to have to worry about some of the things that we could (and did) plan for.

Another huge factor in relieving stress was learning when to let go of things that we simply did not have time for. Since Anthony and I both started new and demanding jobs early into the planning process, it became clear that my dreams of doing it all weren’t realistic. Once I accepted that our inability to get to every single thing was not a disappointment, but a conscious decision, it didn’t matter anymore.

After months of preparation, the day wasn’t perfect, but it was full of love and laughter (and the most fun dance floor ever)–which was all we had hoped for.
