Cozy Winter Wedding at Lake Louise

I’m not going to lie, after shivering my way through college just north of Chicago, the only way I like snow is when I can drive to it—and then away from it. But, I’ll admit that snow makes for stunning wedding photos, especially when they’re taken by Matt + Lena Photography. And with a rustic setting and seasonal florals, this wedding is the definition of a winter wonderland! See it all in THE VAULT!

From Matt + Lena PhotographyLes and Mel met while working at sea, on a cruise ship about 6 years ago. They were both dancers at the time, traveling the world and enjoying the adventure! They have since moved to Edmonton Canada to start their life together and a wedding was one of the top things on their list!

When these two asked us to photograph their wedding we were super excited! They are awesome people with amazing travel stories and a shared wanderlust to explore the world. Their wedding sounded amazing filled with loads of DIY projects, and their venue was a cozy lodge nestled in the Rocky Mountains at Lake Louise. They tied the knot on January 31st 2015.

The day was amazing, just the right combination of sunshine peaking though and a soft falling of snow. The backdrop was the vast snowy mountains and evergreen trees. For the portraits we took a short ride to a lookout point to capture all the magical scenery :)

From The Groom… Mel, having 3 brother, talked them into being her Brides Men. Her Man of Honour was her best friend Jeff, who did an amazing job making sure the day went smoothly. We knew we wanted to put a lot of ourselves into the wedding and decided to pour lots of effort and time into our ideas.

Luckily I’m pretty good at photoshop so all of our invitations and seating placements were home-made. The only real trick was having to make the envelopes too (but after making a life sized Delorean out of cardboard and tin foil for a cruise ship “Back to the future” themed party, it was an easy task :) )

Our venue was pretty incredible so we only had to accent it. We just chopped down and cut some birch trees into manageable sizes and then collected mason jars, candles and evergreen branches to assemble our table centerpieces.

The cake. At one time I was a chef, when Mel and I lived in Italy and played house for a year. And so I had a pretty good understanding of what it takes to make a cake. I made our cake as well as the topper.

I bought Mel’s rings at people’s jewelers. My ring was made from an early 1900’s penny. We had it nickel plated and it’s perfect.

The guestbook was pretty awesome, a handmade quilt with leaf shaped pieces of fabric to be signed and later stitched into the quilt.

Our DJ and friend, Lucky, kicked the celebrations off! Everyone had an amazing time and I owe him big!

The party carried on well in to the night and eventually spilled outside. The sky was packed with stars above the lake, it was the perfect end to the night.
