From Anne-Claire Brun...When Katherine emailed me about her wedding, she sent me tons of information about the stuff her and her fiancé Kyle liked. She described how they saw their wedding: simple, fun, picnic-like with a s'mores station, food trucks (including an ice cream truck - I kinda stop reading after that and started responding)... I loved their vision and how sweet and creative they were. I also loved the video of the proposal! (https://vimeo.com/69094675)

The wedding itself was exactly like they wanted: fun and beautiful, with emotions and not a single awkward moment :)

From The Bride...Kyle and I met in college through mutual friends. We really got to know each other when Kyle and his roommates moved into the apartment that was literally right next door to my own. One day he came over and was hanging out with my roommate. He was looking through my DVD collection and when he saw my copy of one of my favorite films he said, “Love & Death! That’s my favorite Woody Allen film.” At that moment, I turned to my roommate and said, “Well if you don’t marry him, I will.” It’s funny that actually turned out to be true.

One day, he took me on a picnic on this little hill in Elysian Park that had an awesome view of Downtown Los Angeles. He told me to take a video on my phone as he stood up with the skyline in the background. When I started recording, he got down on one knee and proposed. I said yes, obviously, and started crying. Our friends had been hiding in the bushes near by and filmed everything. One of our friends came out playing “Climb Every Mountain” from The Sound of Music on his guitar. It was wonderful. And it’s so fun to have the whole thing filmed. (Link to proposal video: https://vimeo.com/69094675)

It was really fun planning everything for the wedding! We had a really tight budget so almost everything was DIY- but that’s what made it so great. It was so fun having all my friends and family chipping in to help in some way. Having a tight budget forced us to be creative and think outside the box.

I really like handmade details and wanted everything to be a reflection of who Kyle and I are. Almost everything at the wedding was hand-made or carefully curated: the programs, photobooth backdrop, hand-drawn chalk lettering, hand-painted wooden signs. There really wasn’t a set theme or even a color palette. All the details were just things that Kyle and I really liked. It was very eclectic but it all came together beautifully.

There was a brief moment during the reception when we walked over and sat down by the fire pit and just looked out at everyone dancing and having fun. After so many months of planning, it was so great seeing all of the details come together and to see all of our family and friends in one place. The day goes by so fast and it can all just be a blur, so it was nice to just pause for a moment and take it all in.

Having had a tight budget, you learn what to cut back on and what is essential. The most essential thing is having a good wedding coordinator. Ours were amazing and honestly don’t know what we would have done without them. The last thing you want is to be stressed out on your wedding day. It’s so nice to be able to hand the reigns over to someone else and have them worry about everything so you don’t have to. Also, don’t stress about the little details. People remember an experience, not the details. So just try to relax and have fun.
