Pink + Gold La Jolla Wedding

I feel pretty confident saying that I bet there isn’t a SMP lady out there that doesn’t love all things pink and gold. And so on that note, this multi-cultural celebration is already winning awards. With a sparkling gold beaded gown for the ceremony and a bright pink sari to end the evening, our Bride was the definition of beauty, with heidi-o-photo capturing every look and everything in between. See them both in our VAULT right this way and more pink and gold goodness while you’re at it!

From Heidi-o-photo… Sharmini and Patrick met 10 years ago in the dorms on move-in day at UC Berkeley. Since then they’ve moved together and both gone through a lot more schooling – Patrick from MIT and Sharmini from Cornell. Now that they’re done with school they spend their time together traveling and trying new restaurants.

They chose scenic La Jolla as the destination for their wedding since many of the guests were coming in from out of town. It’s coastal views and great weather was perfect.

The wedding’s color scheme was pink with sparkles. Their venue, La Valencia, was the perfect background for their celebrations with it’s pink walls and elegant reception room. The bride started the day with a gold beaded dress and changed into a beautiful pink sari during the reception.

From the Bride… Patrick and I met in freshman year at UC Berkeley. He proposed 10 years later by a waterfall in Ithaca, NY, where I was attending graduate school. We decided to have the wedding in La Jolla, as Patrick’s family lives in San Diego. Because many of our guests were going to be traveling from Asia and the East Coast, we wanted to have our wedding somewhere beautiful that our guests would love. La Valencia is both beautiful and historic, and the service is excellent. We knew all our guests would have a fantastic time.

I wanted the wedding to be colorful and vibrant, but also glamorous and elegant. I grew up in Singapore, and I wanted the flowers to have a tropical island feel to remind me of home. Pink is my favorite color, so there were plenty of hot pink roses in my bouquet and the centerpieces. I also wanted to wear something that reflected my Indian heritage. Indian brides typically wear red and gold. I chose a gold beaded gown for the ceremony, and a pink sari for the reception. I also wore my grandmother’s antique gold necklace for the ceremony. For our favors, we put candy in little silk bags from Taiwan that were printed with the Chinese “Double Happiness” symbol.

My favorite memory from the day was the feeling of us being together with all our family, and everyone having a fantastic time. The DJ was excellent, and the food and wine were amazing. I also loved our first dance, which was to the Ramones song “Baby I Love You.” Patrick and I took ballroom dancing lessons and had a swing/foxtrot routine prepared.

My advice to brides-to-be is not to sweat the small stuff. Not everything will go as planned, and that is ok! Remember to enjoy the day, because it goes by very fast.
