Let me go ahead and set the scene. A backyard “I do” at the Groom’s family home with cozy, rustic tables and a farm-fresh menu. Sounds pretty heavenly, right? And with the always amazing MAP Events and Dragonfly Events on the job, there was no detail overlooked from first look to last dance. The Edges shot every image we’re happily housing in The Vault.
From The Edges Wedding Photography… Kay & Patrick’s wedding was was one of the most special events we have had the honor to capture. It was filled with so many personal details, it truly felt like the day was a reflection of who they are as a couple. The ceremony and reception was held at the groom’s family’s home with incredible sweeping views of vineyards and mountains.
Two very special details were all the family wedding photos displayed during cocktail hour and the gold toasting flutes and tray. During any special celebration (50th wedding anniversaries and weddings), the tasting flutes are used by the couple and then their names and date are engraved on the tray. Its such a beautiful heirloom that has been used by the family for over 100 years and will continue to be passed on through the generations.
The decor was kept it very simple and elegant with lots of white, light grey linen and blush. Even the bridesmaids were dressed all in white. The couple loves food (Patrick proposed on a farm!), so all the food was farm-fresh. A highlight was the whiskey bar with 2 signature cocktails. It was such an amazing event!
From the Bride… We met eight years ago, as freshmen on our first day of college. After many semesters as classmates (we were both computer science majors), and then friends, we eventually started dating.
Our wedding took place in mid-August in Healdsburg, California, a small wine-country town north of San Francisco. Patrick’s parents have a summer home in Healdsburg where Patrick spent most of his summers growing up and where we spend most of our summer weekends. We’d joked about getting married there for months (years?) before we got engaged, so it was an easy choice as a venue. We were torn about whether to get married in the front or backyard, and ended up deciding to have two events at the house: a rehearsal dinner around the pool in the backyard, and our wedding ceremony and reception in the front!
Prior to our wedding, a friend suggested that we reserve a few minutes to be alone with just each other and some appetizers after the ceremony. This private moment was one of our favorite parts of the wedding; a minute to appreciate the rest of our lives together and eat some food!
We wanted to keep the wedding decor minimal to let the gardens surrounding the house and wine country scenery take the spotlight. We used a neutral palette, with white bridesmaid dresses, neutral table linens, and wood chairs.
We both love to eat, so put a lot of thought into the food and drink for the wedding. When we each wanted to have whiskey in our signature cocktails, we decided to have a dedicated whiskey bar that served our signature cocktails and assorted single malts. For dessert, in lieu of a traditional wedding cake, we had our favorite dessert: tiramisu with a layer of chocolate mousse, from a small bakery near where we used to live in Berkeley.
After dinner, we toasted our wedding with a pair of gold goblets that have been passed down several generations in Patrick’s family, originating with his great grandparents. They bear the inscription of around 20 family weddings and anniversaries. At each event they were used to toast lifelong companionship!
