10 Pretty Things We Love About: Canmore + Banff Makeup Artistry

With over a decade of experience working in the beauty industry as a business executive and artist for brands like Louis Vuitton, L’Oreal and Lancome, it’s no surprise that Canmore & Banff Makeup Artistry‘s Jenna Andersen has both impeccable taste and the skills to turn any bride into a star on her Big Day. Get to know Jenna with our ten quick questions below!

How did you get into makeup artistry?

Growing up in Toronto, my family was in the entertainment and modeling industries, so I spent a lot of time with various creatives when I was young. Beauty, art and fashion were a big part of our lives, so it was natural to progress into an industry that reflected my life and surroundings. Eventually, after a decade in the luxury beauty industry, I moved from Toronto to Alberta for Louis Vuitton’s beauty division. That is how I ended up in Western Canada and subsequently moving to the Canadian Rockies to start my own beauty company.

What’s your personal motto, or a phrase that inspires you creatively?

Meraki — To do something with soul, creativity or love; to put something of yourself into your work. It’s exactly how I feel about my Makeup Artistry and what I try to give to my clients.

Can you describe your aesthetic in three words?

Contemporary | Luminous | Elegant

What are three things in life you absolutely can’t live without?

Where do you find inspiration?

In any form of Art, reading Charlotte Bronte, all genres of music, creative colleagues I work with and their ideas, and my children.

What’s your favorite social media platform?

Instagram.

What is a makeup detail that often gets overlooked, that you wish got more attention in the planning process or the Big Day?

Skin regimen and care. Great, healthy skin is the foundation to having your makeup look more clean and radiant. Have a consult with your makeup artist at your trial consult and assess what the best products are for you specifically. Another detail we suggest is to choose your day of beauty essentials in your trial makeup session, and have your artist pick them up for you, in advance of your Big Day.

What do you think is the most important question a client can ask, when deciding who to hire as their makeup artist?

Reading reviews and viewing a current portfolio. These are the perfect way for a new client to gain transparency into their service provider and so important.

What’s been your proudest professional accomplishment as a makeup artist?

Having a team. I have met and worked for a lot of really great people thus far in my career, but having fantastic, passionate people representing our company has really filled me up both professionally and personally. I feel so much gratitude to be surrounded by such talent everyday. We all genuinely love what we do. And we love bridal, it’s a special industry.

When you’re not working, what do you like to do for fun?

I love to read, Cross Country Ski and of course visit SEPHORA and Holt Renfrew for a good shopping spree!
