For a (b-e-a-utiful) Bride who grew up on a dairy farm near Alberta, this rustic elegant affair was years in the making—cowgirl boots, horses and all. It’s the kind of soiree that’s filled to the brim with sweetness, from the family DIYs to the smiles galore. From the beautiful Bride… The theme of our wedding was “rustic country meets elegance ” I love lace and pearls and wanted to incorporate that along with barn wood and rustic handmade decor for my perfect wedding look. The wedding took place outdoors on August 30, 2014 on our family dairy farm outside of Leduc, AB. 150 guests were in attendance. All my ideas my dad and I came up with on our own. We put many hours sanding, designing, and perfecting our crafts. The wedding took 3 days to set up and two to tear down. The tulle, lights and chandeliers were the most time consuming but, were that beautiful elegant touch I was hoping for. The groom and his father also handmade our own 20X40ft dance floor for the tented wedding reception out of 2×6’s and 3/4inch tongue and groove plywood. The thank you gifts were a small burlap sachet with “Love is sweet” stamped on them with M&M’s inside for the bride and grooms initials Matt & Melissa.
For the outdoor wedding ceremony I wanted it to scream romance. From the aisle lined with hundreds of white silk flower petals, to the elaborate handmade birch bark wedding arch complete with handpicked silk florals, to the acoustic ukalalye player & soloist, cousins of the bride. Flower petals were thrown as the bride and groom kissed and made there way back from the aisle as Mr. & Mrs. I wanted pastels for the flowers, soft elegant colours, pearl accents, simple classic dresses for the bridesmaids of course cowboy boots! Growing up on a dairy farm just outside Leduc, Alberta I practically lived in my cowboy boots on my horse, so naturally I needed to wear them under my dress on my wedding day. The boots I chose were ivory with heart cut outs, my dress was strapless, flawlessly fitted sheer lace over satin with a mid-length lace train, complete with a elegant veil with lace trim.
Our getaway car was a 35′ Ford in Periwinkle Blue, restored by the groom and his Father, a treasured family memory. Our wedding featured many guest from around the globe including tho se from Australia, Holland, and even a country celebrity guest Brett Kissel from Nashville Tennessee who sang a few tunes for the bride and groom. My brother and maid of honour sang our first dance song “A thousand years by Christian Perri” this was a very special moment for the us. My groom even surprised me with a song he had wrote called “I’ll be there for you”, which he played acoustically on his guitar. Everyone seemed to kick off their boots and enjoy our down home country wedding!
