Glamorous Toronto Wedding

It seems only fitting that on National Proposal Day, we share the story of Rhea and Lubor; a duo with one of the sweetest proposal stories ever (seriously, read below), one cuter than cute daughter and a wedding that will go down in the SMP Hall of Fame… for sure.  Think gorgeous details meets a woodland backdrop meets just a touch of glittery gold.  Click here for so much more from Taylor Roades.

From Taylor Roades Photography… There was 106 people who had travelled from across Canada and the US to be together for Rhea, Lubor and Elska.

There was 100 bottles of champagne. There was more blonde curls than I care to count, one hell of a father daughter dance, and a single flower crown. It was a party for the ages.

Rhea and Lubor’s wedding was a perfect mix of sophisticated design, mixing greens with pinks and gold, and fun.

From the Bride… The most delightful man I have ever met, Lubor, proposed to me in -15 degree weather, three days after Christmas and in my seventh month of pregnancy. That morning he said, “Let’s take a walk,” so, begrudgingly, I grabbed my camera and our dog and we headed to the Music Garden Park in Toronto. Standing there in a parka and a ponytail I snapped pictures of him under the falling snowflakes. The next thing I knew Lubor was holding up huge handmade signs, each revealing one word (à la Bob Dylan) that gradually scripted, “Dear Rhea, will you marry me?” Unknowingly, I had just captured my whole proposal on film. Needless to say, that series of images are a cherished part of our love story.

After a two year engagement, welcoming a daughter and a big move to Los Angeles, we thought it might be time to have a wedding. We knew what we wanted the wedding to be: a big party, surrounded by our dearest family and friends with lots, and I mean lots, of dancing. The entire wedding planning process took place from Los Angeles, within five months and with the tireless help of wedding planner extraordinaire… my amazing mother. There were times I thought we just might be crazy planning a DIY wedding in just a few short months from over 4000 miles away, but we did it!

The forest was the initial inspiration for our wedding style. Deep greens, glittering gold and crimson red with hints of lavender and peach were the colors I envisioned. Baby’s breath lined the aisle for the ceremony and was grown in my mother’s backyard throughout that summer. We scoured vintage stores for emerald green vases to sit on hand-crocheted doilies and the perfect crystal hair ornament. At every place setting was a vintage, literary quote in homage to our very first conversation with each other, regarding my literature degree, for guests to peruse before dinner. But, the highlight of the day had to have been our daughter, Elska the adorable flower girl, who stole the show when she walked her father down the aisle.

The day went by in a flash, as all brides will say. I distinctly remember pausing for a moment on the dance floor and trying to capture in my mind this blissful moment where all the most important people in our life were laughing, dancing (a lot!) and celebrating the love the two of us had created.
