From the Bride… Kuba and I met in medical school. In my first year, I took a medical Spanish class in preparation for a medical trip to Peru. Kuba, then in his second year, was also in that class and the teacher paired us together. Throughout the course of that year I would ask him for study advice and we began taking study breaks together. The first real date we had was decidedly unglamorous; we played Buck Hunter, an addictive arcade game, at a local hole-in-the-wall bar. Medical school can be a rigorous environment but our playful study breaks were the perfect antidote for the stress of a big exam. It has been nearly five years, and we have travelled the world together, practiced medicine alongside one another and fallen in love not only with each other, but with each others’ family as well.

Kuba was born in Poland and grew up in Westchester. I was born and raised in Greenwich Village in NYC. Prior to entering medicine, we both came from artistic, liberal arts backgrounds; I went to Sarah Lawrence College and studied literature and theatre. Kuba was a music major at Connecticut College. We both wound up going into medical fields that allow us utilize an artistic/discerning eye; I am training to be a Dermatologist and Kuba is completing residency in Orthopedic Surgery. My dad likes to say that Kuba and I go together like ‘skin and bones’.

We wanted to have a ‘midsummer night’s dream’ feel to the reception. Two of my favorite words (for both their meaning and sound) are ethereal and diaphanous and I wanted guests to feel that through the lighting and the flowers. We chose Saipua for flowers because their work has an ‘effortless beauty’. Their arrangements look like 18th century French paintings sprung to life. The combination of Saipua’s aesthetic with the grandeur of Cipriani Wall Street’s ballroom, made for a truly magical look.
