Every year, Brecknock Hall in Greenport, New York, gifts a deserving military couple with the wedding of their dreams and this year’s award couldn’t have gone to a better pair. Not only did the Bride grow up in Greenport, but had always envisioned her wedding at the gorgeous venue, surrounded by her loved ones. From Brecknock Hall… The Veteran’s Day Wedding Giveback is an annual event hosted by Brecknock Hall in Greenport, NY, where one US military couple is awarded the wedding of their dreams. Brecknock Hall and many participating vendors donate their talents, time and services to create a lovely dream wedding that otherwise may not have been possible.
MA2 (EXW) Robert William Lees III and Amy Hughes were selected to be 2014’s lucky couple after an extensive search of many worthy applicants. Robert, a self-described “Navy brat”, son of a Navy Veteran, has served in the Navy for 12 years and has been part of numerous deployments and missions. Amy Hughes grew up in Greenport and as a child was always fascinated by the once-empty Brecknock building. After its restoration, she dreamed of one day being able have her wedding there. A few years ago she moved away from Greenport and relocated to Florida, where she and Robert were introduced. It was love at first sight.
In May 2014, they were blessed with a beautiful baby boy, Robert William Lees IV, and as new parents they now had neither the time nor the financial means to plan a wedding. Robert and Amy’s heartwarming application letter told of his wish to give the love of his life the storybook wedding day that she deserved in the town she grew up in, the venue she grew up longing for and with the family she left behind… and the rest is history.
