Travel-Themed Vintage Wedding at the Piedmont Club

These lovebirds don’t hold back when it comes to adventure. Already married after a surprise elopement the year prior, they decided it was time to celebrate with friends and family, and threw a travel-themed soiree in honor of their worldwide treks. With Michael and Carina capturing every detail, I’ll be spending some quality time in this gallery hoping some of their adorable charm rubs off.

From Michael And Carina… We are super excited to share our favorite wedding of the season with you. Pilar and Jarad’s vintage and travel themed winter wedding stood out to us because of all of the details which were carefully and lovingly prepared by the bride and groom. These two are just so in love and so stylish! Their personality really shines through in the pictures. We shot this wedding mainly on medium format film (Contax 645), developed by Film Box Lab.

Pilar and Jarad have been inseparable for 8 years. They love adventures, having fun with friends and they travel all over the world. They are also full of surprises. Almost exactly one year ago they contacted us with a special request: to shoot their surprise elopement in Williamsburg. It was a very intimate and sweet elopement. They surprised their family with the photos afterwards.

This year, after being married for one year, Pilar and Jarad wanted to include all their friends and family in the celebration at a vow renewal on their first anniversary. They picked the beautiful Piedmont Club in Northern Virginia as their wedding venue. Their late-afternoon indoor ceremony was accompanied by a guitar player.

There were world globes, maps and old photographs everywhere – it was perfect. They put so much thought and love into it. There was a lot of DIY which we love. The bride made the invitations herself – by cutting out travel brochures. She wrote us that “The props and decor were mostly me, a lot of chalkboard ink, handwriting, gluing, flea markets, Craigslist and Pinterest stalking. Jarad’s mother made the signpost and I painted on the city names. The programs I made myself (the night before!) because the ones we had ordered came through a mess and we ran out of time to find new ones.”

Plus, the two are just incredibly stylish. Pilar’s gloves are vintage from the groom’s family. They have been unable to fit anyone in the family for generations…until Pilar. I got goosebumps hearing this story. The fur shawl is also a vintage piece, great for this winter wedding. The bride’s second/reception dress was also purchased at La Reve Bridal; however “it was actually a prom dress they had in the shop purchased just days before the big day!”

The couple loves travelling and had friends there which they had made during their travels around the world. Their “guestbook” was a globe and by the entrance stood a big map with small flags on it indicating where the couple had traveled. The table decorations had city themes (London, Rome, Paris, Tokyo…). Keepsakes from those cities were laid out on the tables. And every table had a fitting viewfinder with pictures from the couple’s trip to that city.

What we love most about Pilar and Jarad is how they combine their love with their love for adventure. They have so much fun together, they keep it fresh. After being together for almost a decade, these two are just crazy about each other. And that is what makes us so excited.
