From Christine Pienaar Photography… I am so excited to share Kelli & Dylan’s beautiful Panoramic Mountain wedding. Not only was the scenery at this wedding breathtaking, but the first look between the bride and her young daughter was one of the sweetest moments I’ve ever captured.
From the Bride… With only two years to plan the wedding, I didn’t spare anytime. The Pinterest board “Ireland Wedding 2014” was immediately created and the ideas started flowing. Being in University, working, and having a brand new baby didn’t leave much time for wedding planning, but every free moment I felt inspired I would plan.
I had always envisioned a quiet and quaint mountain wedding. Partially because Dylan and I spent any chance we could in the mountains. With this in mind, we made sure to incorporate colors that were both natural and elegant. We fell in love with mint green, coral and splashes of gold, which inspired the rest of our wedding.
After finding a beautiful mermaid style dress in Vancouver with my best friend, I decided it might be a bit easier to purchase the dress in Calgary for alterations and fittings. I was so eager to purchase the dress that I made appointments in Calgary immediately. Unfortunately, the owner of first store I visited was so mean to me I left the boutique crying. Dylan was so sweet and did some researching on his own to find another store that carried this particular dress. I arrived at Embrace Bridal in Airdrie a few weeks later and the ladies were A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I can’t even begin to explain how friendly and personable the girls were, I remember thinking I should ask them to go for drinks after the fitting! They didn’t have the exact dress but made me try on a similar one for fun and I fell in love! It was a blessing in disguise.
The days leading up to the wedding were beyond exciting and at times, very stressful. I decided I wanted to DIY a lot of the decor. Everything from the centerpiece, wedding advice, table numbers, and lemonade stand were small pieces of the wedding I personalized. I also rummaged through tons of garage sales, estate sales, thrift shops and family barn yards to find old furniture, picture frames, vases, crates, and anything I thought would be a good fit for our mountain meets shabby chic wedding. I designed the wedding madlibs cards with a mint green watercolor brush using Photoshop and also used the same design for our seating chart which I hung using twine and clothes pins on old windows borrowed from a 100 year-old farmhouse. For our favors, we used small mason jars filled with a mixture of our favorite candy. My amazing Mother made over 50 bottles our favorite wine, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc and our friends mom, made a yummy chocolate and peanut butter cake topped off with our sparkly gold cake topper from Etsy.
I can’t thank my friends, family and hubby enough for the many wine and craft nights!
With the big day just weeks away and our venue not built, Dylan and I were a tad nervous we would have to move our location which would not be easy in a small little ski village like Panorama. Our friend who owns the course told us not to fret. For me being the planner I am, it was quite stressful not being able to see the reception room beforehand. Looking back, it was surreal – the high ceilings, stone fireplace, big windows, wrap-around patio, and rustic wooden beams completed the “quaint mountain” setting. While the bridesmaids and I got ready in our cute little floral robes, one of my girls, a Calgary-based food blogger, served up an amazing breakfast complete with yogurt parfaits, apple-spiced pancakes, mini frittatas, fruit kabobs, mini donuts served in coffee and fresh juices. Once we had finished breakfast and I got into my dress, my photographer suggested I do a “first look” with our daughter, Jovi. This was such an emotional and memorable part of the day for me. I hid on the patio while Jovi, who was two years old at the time, in her fluffy tutu dress slowly walked outside. Unsure of where all the girls were leading her, she peeked around the corner and immediately smiled and ran into my arms and hugged me like I hadn’t seen her in days! I balled like a baby. Our wedding was more amazing than I could have ever imagined. To share this special day with our daughter was perfect…words can’t even begin to describe the joy, the happiness and the tears – I’m so in love!
