From Clean Plate PicturesCollaborating with Kristen of Full Aperture Floral and Jess of Manifest Events on a same-sex marriage inspiration shoot was fantastic. Their vision was beautiful and original and it was so much fun working together to bring it to reality.

Using ‘Old New York’ as our inspiration we used iconic locations such as Dumbo and Vinegar Hill to capture a vintage feeling. Both neighborhoods posses that classic spirit of New York City with cobblestone streets, weathered doorways, hidden alleyways and of course, the Brooklyn Bridge.

Tucked away in the heart of Hell’s Kitchen we transformed a charming private terrace into an intimate reception space brimming with romance. With a backdrop of fire escapes, exposed brick, and touches of industrialism, the reception space conjured “West Side Story” with a modern twist.

Setting the stage for an ultra-romantic celebration, with the Grooms in the center, our color palette featured navy as the main color with muted tones of peach and pops of coral. To play up the industrial elements of the space we brought in gold, silver and bronze metallic accents. The flowers by Full Aperture Floral were kept masculine and lush with a touch of whimsy. Kristen artfully crafted unique textures and romantic blooms for a timeless, organic composition. Unusual flowers such as unripe blueberries and jasmine were paired with Parrot tulips, garden roses and scabiosa creating an enchanting aesthetic.

We styled the perfect vintage sweetheart table for our Grooms. The tablescape, designed by Manifest Events, was created using the Kate Spade New York Dinnerware Collection paired with West Elm gold and silver flatware. The textures on the plates as well as the mix of metallic details on the table amplified the industrial imagery often associated with ‘Old New York.’ We completed our sweetheart table with Gold Chivari chairs, a custom olive leaf garland, and matching hand-painted gold and navy ‘Groom’ and ‘Groom’ chair signs.

The invitation suite, designed by Manifest Events, brought in hues of navy blue and gold while utilizing fine lines and details to enhance the architectural feel of the event. The envelopes were lined with antique New York City maps and stamped with vintage New York City postage. Jess also did the hand calligraphy for the envelopes, place card tags and Groom chair signs.

Instead of the traditional guestbook, messages for the newlyweds could be written on vintage New York City postcards (found at a few antique stores in the area).

For the favors, black and white cookies were wrapped in antique NYC maps and tied with a navy string and a ‘Thank You’ note. Perched next to the favors Full Aperture Floral created a breathtaking arrangement dripping with Jasmine.

The cake, designed by Butterfly Bakeshop, was the perfect addition to our intimate fete. Clean and understated, we adorned the navy and white four tier cake with peach and white flowers and placed it on a custom white cake stand, wreathed in olive branches.

Karen and Mari of Crown Street Productions wonderfully captured the shoot on video and Jackie Schneider Beauty did the fabulous grooming of our dapper models. It was such a fantastic team of professionals to work with and the results, I think, are inspiring. So glad I played a part in this shoot.
