I’m in complete agreement with Buffy Dekmar‘s take on engagement sessions: they should tell a story. They should tie something in that is meaningful and true to your and your love. From Buffy Dekmar Photography…To me, engagement photos are more than just a pretty collection of pictures. I like for engagement photos to tell a story, to draw on new or old memories, or to speak to the principles and values that a couple upholds together. Natalie and Will wanted their engagement photos to be both meaningful and memorable, so we chose to do two sets, both centered on important places and events:
The first set was taken just before their engagement celebration at LaGrange College, where Natalie’s parents were married years ago. Natalie wore a pink Kate Spade party dress, and showed Will around the college campus in the center of her hometown. Then we headed to the alumni house, where friends and family awaited them ready to celebrate their engagement with good food and good music!
For the second set of photos, we chose a more private and personal spot: Natalie and Will’s house in Dublin, Georgia, which they are in the process of renovating as their forever home. The estate sits just down the road from the home where Will grew up (and where his parents have made their loving home together). The empty house, with its hearths and warm window light, nods to a bright dreams for their future together in that very place.
These sets of this precious couple’s engagement photos are important pieces of their story, both because of time and place and because their relevance to a family history of loving commitment. My hope is that these photos will serve as not only a personal collection of art, but also a reminder of promises, values, and strength of spirit as Natalie and Will begin a new life together in Dublin!
